I for one thoroughly enjoyed the first big day of college football. What did I learn?

Greg Paulus isn't a bad QB. Sam Bradford realized it's tough to deal with some pressure. Ohio State might be in over their head next week. Juice Williams isn't as good as everyone seems to think he is. Scheduling weaklings makes big schools look like Nelson Muntz gloating over Martin Prince. (well that had been established in a couple threads prior)

I know that these guys played creampuffs but Jimmy Clausen and Matt Barkley are looking good. Either of them the real deal?

I just hope Texas Tech plays better than they did. They played well but Potts is gonna have to limit those interceptions.

Didn't get a chance to see Barkley, but Clausen looked phenomenal. Admittedly, it was only one game. But the touch on his passes was amazing. Several of his throws went to receivers that were WELL COVERED. If they were off even a little bit, they don't get through.

I was just happy for the season to start. It's great to have football to watch if you're not doing anything and everyone getting together for OSU games.

Here's what i learned

The Big Ten is STILL the most overrated and overhyped conference/division in all of sports. They are the ACC or Big East with more "prestige".But those other 2 conferences are basketball conferences first and foremost, football second. The only team that looked good was Michigan (i'll get to that later)

Thanks to the "great" BCS Oklahoma is most likely eliminated from National Championship contention before the first week is even over. I wonder if Bradford is having second thoughts on not going pro

Javan Best is the most exciting running back in the country. Not sure if he's the best overall, but definitely the most fun to watch

Robert Griffin of Baylor will be a Heisman FINALIST next year once the big 3 all go on to the NFL

The Michigan fans need to give Rodriguez 3 years to get HIS kind of players into HIS system. You saw the first sign of that yesterday. His offense is a modern day offense, it wasn't his fault that loyd carr had his team built to play like it was 1989. Big, strong, forceful, but slow and unathletic. Michigan will be back on top of the Big Ten (whatever that's worth) within 2 years

Despite Alabama's win, they HAVE to sure up their kick coverage. Va Tech gauged them on returns all night. I guess you could look at the bright side of that though, the fact that they were getting so many return opportunities meant Bama kept on scoring. lol.

That's all i have so far. I'll watch Snead today, but he's going up against Memphis who couldn't have stopped my high school team (lol) let alone an SEC team, so i don't think i'll be able to take much out of this. We'll see

While it's been one season here are my thoughts I was correct about Oklahoma State (good team, Big 12 contenders) Ohio State (overrated not top 10 team. Didn't expect them to lose to Navy but I new they we're worse than #6), and Georgia (not top 15 or even top 20 material). I was wrong about LSU (I thought they we're better than a 8 point win vs. Washington), and Notre Dame (I expected them to win but they looked better than I expected)

What I learned is defenses aren't allowed to do anything. Seriously. If a receiver is catching a ball over the middle and not looking forward, the defense can't hit them??? So they're supposed to let the receiver catch the ball, turn his head, then hit him?

This goes for NFL too, all these rules are starting to ruin the sport!

That was just sad to see that called on the Georgia defender. I always though that hitting was part of football. If the receiver didn't want to get jacked up then he didn't have to go up for the ball.

Exactly. I just don't get what the defense is supposed to do. They seriously want them to just let the offense catch the ball. Like the commentators were saying, it's a freaking contact sport...

Man do I love college football season, I watched so many games yesterday I doubt I can remember to talk about them all...I'll try though.

Ohio State vs. Navy

My god Ohio State, you should have done much better against Navy at your own arena. Navy is better then you would think, but my god you should never let them come within a few steps of tying the game late in the 4th. Have fun with USC next week, I'm sure USC will enjoy a good blowout...unless you really step it up.

Oklahoma State vs. Georgia

Nice plays by Oklahoma State to keep the game out of reach for Georgia. I was expecting more fireworks from the Georgia side of the ball, but the Oklahoma State defence stepped up enough to put it out of reach. Good job Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma vs. BYU

Ouch, saw Bradford go down and then watched as BYU pulled off the upset of the week. I liked the game, and rooted for BYU, but I do hope that Bradford recovers soon and can get Oklahoma back into its game. Nicely done BYU though, you capitalized on a player being injured and pulled out the win.

Oregon State vs. Portland State

Not much to say here, and I wouldn't have watched it if it hadn't been the other team in the state, but Oregon State came out to play with Portland State. Hammered them into the ground early and kept them their. Good for an Oregon State team that is usually horrible out of the gate.

Washington vs. LSU

LSU, you fall in the same boat as Ohio State, except against an awful opponent (whereas Navy is decent). Washington should never come close to beating a ranked team in their current form, and LSU had better step it up or they will also be in trouble later in the season.

Good week, not enough upsets though.

Here's what I learned:

1. Georgia will never win a national title until the school steps in and forces Richt to replace his coordinators. That had to be the worst offensive playcalling of anybodyin week 1besides Oregon. Power running scores a TD on the first drive, but then you never go back to it? Come on.. And the call on Reshad Jones wasgarbage.

2. I knew OU's OL wasn't going to be nearly as strong, and it showed. I don't think they can hang with the Pokes, and don't stand a chance against Texas.

3. The Big Ten might actually be the worst conference this season. I'll hold off judging themuntil after next week though. Ohio State's defense looked pathetic, but maybe they'll do better against a regular offense. Their OL was the big surprise.. if they let guys through like that against USC, it's going to be a loooong game. Iowa's got my vote as the most overrated team in the nation.

4. As for the SEC West... I figured the losses on the defensive front would hurt LSU, but that was terrible. Ole Miss is looking like a total bust against Memphis. And Alabama looked surprisingly good despite a new QB and OL. Bama should take the West by storm, and will probably meet Florida again. My only questions for Florida are on their OL and WRs, but obviously that couldn't be answered yesterday.

Yours hearts gotta go out to Bradford. I'm not an OU fan, but this is a guy projected to be the first overall in next year's draft, and BOOM he gets taken down right on his throwing shoulder.

Cal really showed that they deserve their preseason ranking of 12 and probably higher the way they played. The one question mark about the team was how Kevin Riley would handle being named the team starting QB with no veteran senior waiting in the wings to take over the moment he screws up. Before the game this Saturday Cal fans and college football writers were looking at Jahvid Best to take the heavy share of keeping the Bears offense from becoming average. Riley's big game this Saturday and what could be the coming out party for the Cal still young WR corps could mean problems for USC who may still have more talent but mostly on offense. USC's defense got gutted with so many upperclassmen laving for the NFL.

If Jahvid Best stays healthy and Riley continues to improve there's more than an outside chance that Best could take the Heisman away from the remaining two favorites to win it: Tebow and McCoy.

I do have to say though that Washington doesn't look as bad as they were. They played a tough game. I do think LSU is a bit overrated but WA played a solid game. It will be interesting to see how they do the rest of the season! Oh, and BYU freakin' rocks! Go Cougars!!!

I saw Iowa, ND, Michigan, Michigan State on saturday.

I think the big 10 might make a comeback this year

That Iowa game was fun, wonder why those linebackers didn't fall on it after the first block. They should be ranked down just for being close with NIU.

MSU looked flawless agaist a crappy team, I'm optimistic because they usually don't look that good even against bad teams.

Michigan is back. they played a pretty good WMU team, they have at least a 8 win season this year.

ND, well we will see what they are really made of this weekend.

I'm pretty excited for that one too. However I see the Wolverines taking it behind the woodshed style. I could be wrong, but I haven't any faith in the Rich Rodriguez Wolverines as of yet.

Above is true. We have to stop the run game and force the freshman to work. Your D is going to have a handful with Pryor. If you can keep Pryor in the pocket and not let him run around, you win. It's going to be an amazing game. This week is going so slow. Good luck to USC fans. Hope for a good, injury free game and of course a Buckeye win.

To think... CJ Gable probably should've entered the draft. He really doesn't make a difference at USC cause they are just loaded with Backs.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure he would have been considered the best TE if he entered the draft last year.

It probably would have come down to team preference between him and Brandon Pettigrew.
