You guys might remember me making a topic about what board to get, etc. Well yeah I got my skateboard and so far I can ride it pretty well. Did a couple of research and found out that I am goofy and thanks god I never pushed mongo that I heard its hard to do tricks like that and make you look dumb so I'm pretty much set. There are a few questions I have so if you guys can help, I'd appreciate it alot.

1 - When I push my board by itself, it seems to be turning slightly by itself in one direction. Is this normal? If not, how can I fix it

2 - I've read many ways to stop when going fast, but I tried them all and they all hurt my foot pretty bad, which way would you guys suggest for me to stick to because I doo't want to jump off everytime :P

3 - Should I learn to manual or ollie first whenever I get the chance? Manual seems much easier, but aloit of people start out with ollie.

1. Probably some of the screws connecting your trucks to your deck are loose.

2. I usually just slide using my right foot, until i come to a stop, but soles get weared out quickly like that...

3. Ollie first, because a lot of tricks (kickflips, heelflips, etc;) build upon it. I never learned how to do a good manual...

Good luck with skating. If you get a chance, pick up Suicidal Tendencies on CD. Ahhh memories. Best Skate Punk Music ever.
Jay Adams back in the day was the best skater. Skateboarding is pretty popular it seems again, wish it would get back to that early 80's style.

1: Your foot is not centered property. If you did not know you turn when moving by shifting your weight at which time the trucks bend toward the side your leaning and in turn turn the board. If when you are gaining speed your weight is not centered the board willw ant to turn.

2:Sliding your back or front foot on the ground will slow you down via friction of your foot on the street. That or you can lean the board back causing the back lip to grind on the street (this takes balance and if you are new to riding a board you may fall).

3: All skateboarding tricks are based off the ollie in one way or another. if you can't ollie you can't skate. Period. Manuals aren't necisary and will naturally come in time when you learn how to balance the board in motion.

That help?

1. Make sure your front foot is centered on the board. A good marker is the front set of bolts. Also, your trucks could be bent. Are they level with the board?

2. Don't try a powerslide! That's sort of an expert-only move and could end in disaster. The easiest way to do it is just sort of slowly lower your back heel to the ground and press more firmly as you begin to slow.

3. These are two completely different moves. There's no reason you need to learn one before the other. But yeah, the manual is easier because it's not really a "trick". It's just learning to balance. The ollie is an entire series of motions linked together, so it's a lot tougher to learn. You can probably learn to do a manual much quicker, so you may as well get that out fo the way first.

Hey, man! You didn't say anything about avoiding the powerslide. For all you know, this kid could have read your instructions and come back with a broken leg.

Oh hey thanks but there are a few things. When I said I let the board go by itself, I mean while I'm not on the board, I push it, and it would turn by itself. That I dont get. I thought it was a normal thing because I usually lean towards the left all the time so that might cause it to get used to leaning left. It's like sleeping on a bed on one side the whole year, by the end of the year, the bed is going to seem a little bit off, you get me? I can tell you right now, I look at my skateboard everything is fine, nothing looks wierd, bent, deformed, sticking out, etc. Do you guys think something might be loose? Also, thanks for the heads up on the powerslide, but like I said I read alot of stuff about beginning skateboarding and they say yeah that one is a little hard. I going to practice the heel thing thouhg, thing is it was raining today so yeah.

Hey! Actually, I looked really hard, and I think my trucks might be a bit slanted. whats that tool called to loosen and tighten that thing in the middle, because I think I might need that in order to solve my little problem here.

Most trucks just need a socket wrench, some use an allen wrench.

Best bet is just borrow a friends or use a familys socket set.

Also a good thing to do is remove the bearings from the wheels and make sure they are all oiled up nicely they should spin freely and take awhile to stop. if one sides bearing is dirty and doesnt spin well it would cause the unusual turning.

Another thing is make sure the Bushings are in good condition overtime they will favor one side over the other.

Bushings are theese if you didnt know and are what allow the trucks to bend left and right:

So it's called mongo?......the bushings are probably getting stuck one way, spray some oil in there or something. I slid my tail, don't know any other way. Ollie dude don't waste your time doing manuals. Look for a T-tool.

Three basic fundamentals for beginners:

1. Tic Tac. (I assume you know this one already)

2. 50-50 power slide. (start off at slow speeds and it will pay off later in terms of speed control.)

3. Ollie. (Most tricks are based off of the Ollie. Start off in the grass and you may want to tighten your kingpin to the point where you can't hardly lean or tilt the board at all. This will give you a flat surface to land on. You can always loosen it later.)

Loosening the kingpin for both trucks and tightening them back down can help straighten out your board. Also make sure all 8 or 12 screws on the board's top surface are tight.

Always keep your speed under control. Good luck and get ready for some scrapes and bruises.

learn to ollie, and dont stop ollieing till you get them beast, then learn other tricks. because i hate going to the skatepark and looking at kids who can barley ollie try to do stuff. when you get your ollies nice then everything will come easy, well thats what happened to me
