QFT. Kobe is unconscious. But the Lakers were embarrassed by the Mavs and Nuggets earlier this week and he took it out on a bad Blazers team. The only way they could manage a win against them is to have Kobe shoot 39 times, and even then they couldn't win in regulation.

Still, virtuoso performance. Props must be given. I just disagree with the thread title. :P

The Kobes played the Trailblazers, calm down. If he scored 59 they would've lost to the Portland Trailblazers, thats how bad the Lakers are.

Even though I am not a Lakers fan, I am gonna say this: Lakers are not terrible. Despite the common misconception that Lakers lack the talent and depth to win games, they are a good team. They are just out of sync right now. Bynum is improving at a incredible clip and will be a force to be dealt in the playoff time. Odom and Luke Walton form one of the most underrated frontcourt in NBA. People don't give Odom enough credit for his ability to defend, pass, and score. Luke Walton has also improved greatly. He understands the Triangle Offense and can pass ,shoot, and post up. Of course, we can's forget about kobe. Seriously, don't talk when you don't even know the Lakers team well-enough. Maybe you should actually watch a Lakers game before bashing them

The Lakers have had their share of injuries this season and if those injuries had not occured, it's scary to think where the Lakers would be this season.

There's a handful of players in the league that can score 60+ on 40 shots, it's just not good team basketball so it's not done that often. Doesn't mean Kobe isn't great, but c'mon now, that's like, twice the amount of shots most superstars in the league take.

i think kobe is a pompous **** but i'd have to agree that he's the best player in the nba. too bad the rest of the lakers team is mediocre at best. and it's funny how phil jackson's genious coach status seems to have gone away since shaq left.

He's amazing no doubt about it, but I'd still rather have KG or Dwight Howard.

Yes, I just said I'd rather have Dwight Howard over Kobe...

The Los Angeles Lakers are a mediocre basketball team at best. Kobe Bryant dumped 65 on the Portland Trailblazers. Yeah, um, the Trailblazers. Let's see him do that on the Mavericks or Spurs. You know, a team that plays defense.

Steve Nash is the best player in the NBA. He may not have the highest PPG percentage, but he makes his team better, and that's what being an MVP is all about.

Kobe is so much better tha Nash it isn't even funny. Nash is a 1 dimensional player, all he can do is play offense. That's why the Susn lose in the playoffs every year, cus him and his teammates are soft and can't play an ounce of D. Kobe is THE best in the NBA, hands down. He has a complete offensive game, and he's a beastly defender(unlike nash's puny ass) Nash is too 1 dimensional to be the best in the NBA.

Couldn't have said it better. Although Nash is good, he's too unatheletic to be defensive and he has his limitations in offense agian due to his unatheleticism.

I agree. It may be a good performance but how does one make up for plenty of decent - mediocre ones? His team had lost seven in a row but one good game makes him "God-like?" He is a very good player but I'd rather have a guy that makes his team better since it takes more than one guy to make a team win consistently.

Why does watching ONE game mean that I would change my opinion of Kobe "the Ballhog" Bryant? Also, why did I have to watch the game to have a valid opinion? ALSO, he did it against the Blazers... Just like 81 against the Raptors (when they were sucking it up). Why doesn't he do that against a better team? Oh yeah, because it's harder to do when people actually play defense well. Kobe is a very good one man show, but he can't do jack squat past that. Maybe when he becomes a very good team player, and lifts his teammates games, then he can be considered the best player in the NBA, OFFICIALLY!!!

Most clutch since MJ. Kobe is the only player in the league that I feel the ball is going in every time he shoots, no matter where he shoots or how many defenders are on him.

Many players have gotten their highest point totals against average or mediocre teams. MJ got his highest point total against a Cavaliers team that was not an elite team at the time and did you know that Kobe scored like 62 in 3 quarters against a good Mavericks team last year.

Kobe is a good player but he is not the best in the NBA.  Before he dropped 65 on Portland the Lakers had lost 7 straight.  If he's the best why does his team lose seven straight?  Kobe took 39 shot attempts against Portland, and 35 attempts when he scored 50 against the T-Wolves.  Mabye if Kobe passed more they won't lose seven straight and be in sixth in the west.  The best player has to do more than just score for his team.
