34 points at the end of the first half...WOW. 13-20 from the field, 5-5 FT%, 3-5 from 3 land. He's on pace for 68, Kobe really loves going nuts whenever he's in New York and it shows.

Just imagine how much Fun LeBron is going to have beating those stats when the Garden is his new home.

The Garden is made for things just like this.

Kobe comes in and does this and all it does is make another want to top it

*waits for someone to complain about Kobe's 3 assists even though he's not a point guard* Still the best player in the game.

Well you can say Kobe handled Bynum's absence quite well. Hell, he even got 20-20 from the line.

That's true

MJ had to play against an NBA team while Kobe played against these circus clowns in Knicks uniforms

Gotta love how Kobe only had 3 assists in that game...

Bynum is probably out for the rest of the season and Kobe's still hogging the ball and not getting his other players involved...

Kobe's big point games always come against dreadful teams that just stand around.

Sorry, I'm not impressed.

I think MJ's 55 was also more impressive at the time because that was only around his third game back out of his 1st retirement wearing 45. He still wasn't at 100%. No where near his prime, mid-season form. I think he was still playing baseball just a couple weeks before. Even Phil Jackson commented on that last night. Not to deminish Kobe's 61.

Michael Jordan had two assist in his 55 point game:|

I also don't think MJ's performance at the garden was that much better the Kobes. MJ was being guarded by a 6'3" starks almost the entire game while Kobe had different defenders the entire game. Wilson Chandler, Quentin Richardson were about Kobes height

You're kidding right?

The Knicks Jordan played against finished the season with 55 wins giving them second place in a strong Eastern conference.

You think that last night's Knicks have anywhere near the team the 95 Knicks had?

I know the knicks were good that year but it doesn't erase the fact that starks was the one guarding him pretty much the entire game. It's not like MJ was getting doubled the whole game until the 4th quarter on a few plays near the end. I guarantee Kobe could score 55 points against starks easily

The Knicks last night had no one the caliber of Ewing to guard the basket, they had no one the caliber of Oakley or Mason to come down and knock him around.

Also Starks in the 95 season had his best year defensively with over 100 steals and 4th career best in blocks

Kobe is a very good player but I think that Jordan's accomplishment is more impressive because no one on the Knicks right now could crack the top 7 roster spots on the 95 Knicks

well i'm comparing both videos right now and Kobe made some pretty difficult shots even with a hand in his face. I saw 4 different defenders trying to guard Kobe where as only starks and some other dude off the bench were guarding MJ. Jordan made some difficult shots as well in his 55 point game so It's hard to argue which one performance is better.

MJ's was definitely better for several reasons:
1. More Physical Play at that Era.
2. MJ just got out of retirement.
3. Knicks Team at that time>>>>Knicks Team presently

Kobe can get his teammates involved when he wants to. He had 5 double digits assist games in a row when he injured his finger last month. Of course now with Bynum down the team has to rely on Kobe, Gasol, and maybe Odom (if he can muster the effort) as the team's primary scorers. With a starting option like that he's going to need to get into a rhythm early and that will probably mean taking a lot more shots.

meh i'll take jordan's 6 rings as "the man", 6 finals mvp's, and 5 regular seson mvp's. I can play this game too. lol i love going at it with the kobe fans.

On a side note, it looks like lebron is trying to match kobe. He just dropped 20 in the first quarter. The problem is the cavs are already winning by 12 so this might be a blowout and he won't play in the 4th

I know I'm a knicks fan and it's pretty embarassing. Oh well, in 2010 when Lebron's a knick we'll be the ones laughing! Lebron has 50 points and 11 assists as of tonight.

Oh please - Nicks fans? They were all probably bandwagon Laker fans who dumped the Knicks after the whole Starbury/Isiah Harrasment debacle.

Basketball has the biggest fraudulent bandwagon fanbases of any major sport. There's probably more Laker "fans" in New York then Nicks fans.

Yes, because the mavericks were anywhere close to being as good as the celtics in 86...going against Bird, Mchale, Parish, in the garden during the playoffs, with how many years in the nba??? Please its not even close, Jordan would be outscoring everyone else if he played in today's offense happy game.

The local network had a poll question and it went 90% in favor of Jordan's 55 points as being the most impressive. (I went with Reggie Millers 8 points or whatever in 5 seconds) Jordan had just come back from retirement i believe and he played in a tougher NBA. My cousin made a good point about Lebron, he was trying all the way to the end, Kobe didn't even realize it until the newsman told him and he came out of the game with 2 minutes left to get his standing ovation.

Jordan had Rodman and Scottie Pippen, i hate how people always say it takes just one superstar  Fact is neither of these guys has won a championship alone. Nobody is that great. (Not saying Kobe is better than Jordan or anything)

Fun fact: Jordan's Bulls didn't even win the division until Pippen came to town. I love how people always talk as if MJ did it completely all by himself. Those 90's Bulls teams were stacked. Jordan was the best player, but there were plenty of ballers on those squads.

the second 3 peat were a stacked squad, that first 3 peat was not. Other than pippen and jordan, nobody on those teams could start in place of any of the lakers current players. That roster consisted of horace grant, john paxon, bj armstrong, scott livingston, stacey king, craig hanson, craig hodges, etc. There's no gasol, odom or bynum in those players. and i think a lot of the people on these boards are too young to remember the first 3 peat, and they think that it was the same roster for all 6 titles. That first 3 peat couldn't even stay on the same floor with the second 3 peat

well based on that theory the mavericks are stacked because jason kidd is a lock hall of famer, and nowitzki has already won an mvp and multiple all star appearances so he's well on the way.

How can you say that the first 3-peat squad couldn't hang with the 2nd 3-Peat squad? Do you realize that the 90-91 Bulls won 61 games and the 91-92 Bulls won 67 games? Don't sleep on that '92 squad. They beat a tough Portland team in the finals.

except for the fact that Jordan and Pippen were in their prime while Kidd was past his prime when he came to the Mavericks when he joined Nowitzki. also Jordan and Pippen have a much bigger impact because of their lock down defense

[QUOTE="sixringz1"] well based on that theory the mavericks are stacked because jason kidd is a lock hall of famer, and nowitzki has already won an mvp and multiple all star appearances so he's well on the way. andyboiii
except for the fact that Jordan and Pippen were in their prime while Kidd was past his prime when he came to the Mavericks when he joined Nowitzki. also Jordan and Pippen have a much bigger impact because of their lock down defense

pippen was in his 4th year and had yet to make an all star team when they won their first title. And as time would show, that was far from pippen's prime.

How can you say that the first 3-peat squad couldn't hang with the 2nd 3-Peat squad? Do you realize that the 90-91 Bulls won 61 games and the 91-92 Bulls won 67 games? Don't sleep on that '92 squad. They beat a tough Portland team in the finals.DJ_Magneto
I never said they weren't great but if you line up the rosters of those 2 teams, and erase pippen and jordan since they were on both 3 peats, man for man the second 3 peat has better talent. Harper>armstrong or paxon, Rodman>Grant, Cartwright, Longley and Wettington cancel each other out, Kukoc>any bench players from first 3 peat, etc. Like i said, i never said they weren't great, but STACKED, i don't think so. The second 3 peat was stacked
