"The $7.2 million -- although it's a good number, it looks nice -- there's no job security in it," Briggs told ESPN on Tuesday. "I played four years as a third-round draft pick. I played four years as a third-round draft pick at the league minimum, and there've been no talks of a contract negotiation this year. … In my opinion, there is no intention on a long-term deal here.

"And if you don't have me in your plans for the long term, then I don't want to be here."

The linebacker reportedly turned down a seven-year, $33 million deal in March 2006. Now, he's ready to gamble again.

This is what I hate about pro athletes, I see these idiots complaining $33 million isn't enough for them when some people struggle just to put food on the table, he should be thankful hes able to make that kinda money instead of acting like a baby.

ONLY 7.2 million for 16 games. How will he feed his family?!  These pro athletes are really living in poverty. It's so sad to see the poor struggling to make ends meet. I think we need to call the wambulance for Lance... whoa... wambuLANCE = LANCE Briggs. Thats weird.

If the millions weren't there then they wouldn't get paid it. You think the wealthy owners and managers should keep it all? Its not like the NFL is going bankrupt, so obviously they have the funds to pay these contracts. Don't like it? Stop supporting it, then they'll be hit financially. You pay their salaries by buying tickets, jerseys, watching games, etc.

Based on how he’s handling this it seems pretty clear he doesn’t want a long term contract with the Bears, he wants a long term contract somewhere else. The Bears best bet is to make whatever offer they’re going to make right now, and if he doesn’t take it say We made our offer, he turned it down, end of story. If he wants to cry about it to the media while he's not playing football so be it.

The Bears need to trade him because all he will do is bring the team down with his greedy attitude.

I can see why he'd want a long term contract but if he was offered a 7 year last year why did he turn it down? With the NFL 2 years is almost considered long term. I have no sympathy whatsoever because he turned down a 7 year and now wants another offer.

He turned down the seven year contract, because it was paying four million a year I believe, which isn't that great for a player of his caliber.

Just trade him and get it over with, you don't want that distraction all season long.

Briggs needs to shut up and play. Even Nate Clements shut his trap for a year and entered the free agency, agreeing with the Bills that the organization can't use another franchise tag on him. All he needs to do is play and recieve 7.2 million (A LOT OF MONEY) and get a long-term deal after the 07-08 season. I can't believe Briggs feel that 7.2 million is not sufficient. Actually, I rather not see such a greedy player in a locker room, it brings the whole teams morale down.

the bears are pretty much screwed if briggs isn't bluffing. if they try to trade him, they won't get anything for him because teams will know they have to get rid of him. if they don't trade him, he'll leave in free agency and they'll get nothing.

Anyone planning on picking this guy up from the Bears would be planning on making the trade and giving this guy a new multi year contract. It’s not like you’d trade for this guy and then say Hey we’re going to use the franchise tag on you. ;)

I agree with you. It looks pretty serious. I mean he seems to have an inferiority complex with Brian Ulacher and seems unhappy that Bears weren't willing to give him a huge multiyear deal. I really can't see this guy sitting out the whole year. I say 30 percent chance that he will play for the Bears after 3 or 4 season games or Bears are going to straight-up trade him and hopefully pick up a couple draft picks.

Thank you Lance Briggs. The majority of the people who pay to watch you play wouldn't make that much(7.2 mill.) in a lifetime and you want more.

It's up there. If he's pissed off as much as he said he is, he will probably not play with the Bears. Also there is rumors that Redskins might trade for Briggs.

What sucks is that Urlacher took a pay cut for this guy last season to keep him happy monetary wise and this is how he repays Urlacher...
