What do you guys think of Stafford at No. 1? Personally I think Detroit should have gone with Jason Smith...but that's just me. What do you guys think? I'd like to hear from a Lions fan if there are any on this forum.

I agree with you. Most first round quarterbacks end up being busts and it really sets back your franchise.

I'm not really a lions fan, but I think they should have gone with Aaron Curry. Curry would've make a strong impact and they could've made a solid defense. I honestly think culpepper could've done well this season if they'd used their second first round pick on an o-lineman.

Stafford is a good qb, but its an awful lot to ask a rookie to turn around that franchise. Matt ryan and Joe flacco were rookies on teams that were much better than the lions when they started. But anyways all the best to stafford. I hope he does good, I hate to see busts.

BAD CHOICE! This stink of a franchise deserves another 0-16 year. There were so many better choices, including sanchez, but mostly a good o-line.

I'm not happy with the contract. Rookie cap is seriously needed.

I dont the lions were to smart with the first pick. They drafted a kid who couldnt win big games, and really hasnt proven him self at the college level (in my opinion). I dont think any of the QB's in this draft were very good.Honestly i think Chase Daniels is the best pro type QB because he ran an open offense and has a strong arm, smart. The lions should have went with a defense player or traded that first pick for a franchise player. I mean stafford is a third fourth round guy.

Thanks to Matt Ryan every team thinks they are getting an instant fix at the QB. I thought the Jets fans were pretty funny. Half of them were cheering like they just drafted Tom Brady, and the other half were booing and shaking their heads in disgust. Good luck Sanchez, your going to need it.

Every pick is pretty much a gamble in the NFL draft, all you can do is cross your fingers and hope they can play at the next level. So maybe Stafford or Smith will be good or maybe they wont, theres basically no way to tell. I laugh when Mel Kiper hypes every player, he knows about as much as we do about how these players will be in the NFL.

I agree any of those players are a gamble, but the problem is if a QB doesn't work out he's useless. If a Left OT doesn't work out you can still use him by moving him around into different positions, so at least there is something to salvage.

And I disagree about Kiper, most fans know more than he does.:P

They should've went with defense. It wasn't a lack of scoring that was leading to all those losses last season. It was because they were absolutely horrendous at stopping the opposition.

I don't think it was a bad pick, but I probably would've went with an O-lineman and then a LB with their other first round pick. I don't like how they went offense with both of the picks. Their defense was horrendous.

Doesn't EVERY fan do that on Draft Day?

I don't understand how all of a sudden some people here can predict which people can succeed and fail. The draft is a toss up---who knows if you'll get a manning or a leaf. all you can do is look at tape and see potential. There's no such thing as a sure thing--from Qbs to tackles or DE, or whatever position. Stafford looks like he has the tools and he'll have players around him at least, now the Lions just have to make sure they give him whatever he needs to succeed and hope for the best.

It seems people are making a bigger deal with Sanchez than Stafford. But I'm glad Sanchez did not go to the Lions.

I thought they should have gone a safer route by taking Curry or a lineman but if you never know when a QB could be the one! It was a tough decision and they went witht the risky choice!

The Detriot Lions is where QB's go to die. I live in Michigan, and am really hoping the Lions crash and burn again so they stop drafting QB's with no defensive line. Id rather keep the game close with stopsthen having to have a high powered offence to keep it close which is just asking too much from a rookie QB espesially when Daunte Culpepper is gonna still be starting until the lions lose 11-12 games, and then put in Stafford when the season is over.

I think the pick was ok, but it was made very questionable by the contract. He is making a ridiculous amount of money with much of it guaranteed... if he doesn't work out, the Lions are in deep trouble. Well, actually about the same amount of trouble they are already in.

only a good pick if they build up the o-line...i'm talking about some elite orlando pace type linemen.

and work on that defense....theyve been missing out with some picks....is robert porsche still on the team?
