Ok this is something im wondering about,

Will it be possible to create your own playbook in madden 09 and ACTUALLY use it in franchise mode, similiar to madden 05?

Also will player progression be a little more visible than in madden 08, I mean like at the end of week 5, 11, and playoffs as in, again madden 05? this was poor in the 360 version of madden 08.

Ive been playing madden for a long time and consensus seems that optionwise madden 05 was a great game.

Just wondering will these options make a welcome return in madden 09??

I hope so

If you get the XX anniversary edition of Madden 09 it comes with NFL Head Coach 09. I believe you can create your custom playbooks there and import them into your franchise in Madden 09. You might want to research that a bit though.

That at least would be a good addition

I just wonder why the guys at EA have taken so long to get all the previous options back into Madden and even still, there are some missing.

I guess thats what happens when you own the monopoly on a product.

This current gen, I think that EA has been mainly focused on improving the gameplay, physics, animations and presentation more than anything. Unfortunately for some, the Franchise mode has taken a bit of a back seat to those other improvements. If I remember right, the first edition of Madden on the 360 didn't even have a Franchise mode. They rebuilt the game engine from the ground up just for this current gen. But in the past couple of years, they have been beefing up the Franchise mode and other game modes and finally added online leagues this year. I think the reason behind this is because the majority of Madden fans are into actually playing games rather than managing a franchise. Look at the Madden Bowl, which I have competed in a couple of times BTW. And look at the show that was on ESPN, Madden Nation. Even actual NFL players who play Madden. I would say the majority of those guys could care less about the features of the Franchise mode. They're more into the gameplay and going head to head with others either online or face to face. I know I am. I don't even play Franchise mode. I'm either online or playing against buddies who come by. EA is at a point now in which they can focus more of their attention to the other things.

Thats a fair point. I can understand that the shift is leaning more toward that kind of a madden game

I guess maybe then im just being sentimental. We used to have 5 or 6 guys take part in a franchise and it

was nice to have all those options.

But to be fair I can see your point. And they have improved the gameplay I think for the most part, and the graphics are second to none. Im gonna be selfish and say, why not just throw on those other options. Shouldnt be too much of a problem :)

good point though

Well, if you really want to get the most out of your Madden experience, you might just want to drop the extra $10 for the special anniversary edition with NFL Head Coach 09. All those EA haters might be offended by that, but what are you going to do? Even pick up NCAA 09 so that you can bring in your draft classes into Madden. I have a friend who always gets both the NCAA and Madden games every year so he can do that. It's a lot of work that I'm not into. But his actual "stick" skills aren't that great. To each his own.
