It's widely accepted that Jay Cutler is more than a bit of a douche. Is it possible that McDaniels has his eye on using Brandon Marshall and picks acquired for Cutler to put himself in a position todraft Colt McCoy as Denver's QB of the future. Mentor Belichek has historically jettisoned incumbents and replaced them with his hand picked guy. Maybe McDaniels just saw something in Cutler that set off red flags and immediately began working on alternative routes.

Shipping out established players and borderline superstars in Cutler and Marshall simply to make room to depend on a quarterback still in college? Seems risky. And stupid. If the coach doesn't like the attitude of a player, he has every right to deal with it how he wants. Mike Singletary laid down the law and the Niners are better because of it. Josh McDaniels lost a capable quarterback for Kyle Orton and two first-rounders. Sure, two first round picks are great, but not every first round pick will produce like Cutler did for Denver. Cutler is a douche and that's unavoidable. Can't blame him for being upset with talks of him being shipped to Detroit or Tampa Bay, though. I really don't see the intelligence behind wanting to get rid of Cutler and Marshall to get a few more early draft picks and hoping that a quarterback in college is going to pan out in the NFL. If that's how things stem from here, then that's reasonable. If that was in the back of his mind all along--to get rid of the two best players on the team--to rebuild it the way he wants it, well...

I don't want to exonerate Cutler and I don't know everything about the he said, she said, but I highly doubt that was the plan, and even if it was it's not that good. Fact, drafting a QB is always a risk. How many QB's are drafted in the first round each year, half a dozen sometimes? And how many of them pass for two staright 3,000+ yard seasons in a row? In fact, many times later picks have more success than earlier ones. Brett Favre, Tom Brady, as compared to Joey Harrington and Cade McNown. It's just so unkown despite all the scouting if a QB will succeed in the NFL or not which is why giving Cutler up was such a big deal. He was a proven commodity at a position where there are maybe, what, a dozen QB's at most who are at his level. I think McDaniels came in immediately and wanted Matt Cassel for whatever reasons, which I think is stupid because I don't think Cassel is going to be the next Tom Brady.By trying to trade for Cassel he pissed Cutler off understandably. Perhaps Cutler overreacted, but McDaniels has repeatedly said he doesn't regret trying to make the trade. Then, though, and I think this is where McDaniels really F's up, probably a bit because of tension with Cutler he goes after Sanchez. Now, if you have a high pick and you draft Sanchez as McDaniels, fine. Cutler still has the starting position, Sanchez can ride the bench and learn from Cutler, and next season you can trade whichever one you don't want, although I still think it's incredibly stupid to revamp the offense when the D has so manmy gaping holes. But to trade for the Sanchez pick with Cutler still there? It's ridiculous. In the end, I think it's a case of McDaniels wanting to come in, bring in as many ex-patriots as he can no matter if he needs them at the position or not, and completely re-vamp the entire team to fit his style. I think it's a stupid move because he ends up spending all of his time re-vamping a perfectly competent offense while the defense that cost them the season doesn't get as much attention. I think this season's going to be a train wreck for Denver because of that. Chalk it up to an over-confident rookie coach. Will he bounce back? Maybe, but I definitely see an inauspicious start to his solo career. Charlie Weiss, Romeo Crennel, Josh McDaniels?

No, it's not possible. Any coach who plans for years down the road (since it would probably take McCoy more than a year to develop) during their first season is going to be fired.

No, McDaiels is a young, arrogant punk who is in way over his head. To jettison a Pro-Bowl caliber QB over an attempt to acquire his protoge one-year wonder just screams ego-trip. I'm laughing at how Denver has become a more respected version of the Raiders but every bit just as incompetent.

Mike Shanahan must be laughing his ass off.

And why on gods earth would you want Colt mcCoy as your QB of the future? Ask Alex Smith, Michael Vick, Vince Young and Charlie Frye how playing the spread option offense in college helped them in the pros. McCoy will be lucky to be drafted at all if you ask me. Noodle arm, too thin, and comes from an offense in which it is nearly impossible to make the transition to the NFL. He needs a lot more snaps under center.

As for McDaniels, he is already on the hot seat. First of all, you don't try and trade a Pro Bowl QB with a cannon arm, excellent athleticsim and high football IQ for a one year wonder with no track record of success. If you do, you make the trade happen. if you don't, then you placate the damaged ego of your Pro Bowl QB and make nice. McDaniels will learn there is a lot more to head coaching than calling plays.

If McDaniels is doing that he should be fired. The Broncos were on their way to becoming a force in the AFC and they blew it, and continue to blow it. Just think about Jay Cutler's first round QB draft class. Vince Young is headed to bustville and may never become the player he should become. Matt Leinart was becoming a bust but is starting to come around and has looked good in Preseason, but still is a backup to a 38 year old Kurt Warner. Jay Cutler is the ONLY STARTING QB. And your gonna trade Jay Cutler in for essentially a guy who hasn't taken a snap in the NFL and will need to be developed? That would be an awful gameplan by McDaniels.

Yar. I don't know if anyone has watched NFL football draft picks but it isn't like you get anything guaranteed. The draft is a big roll of the dice and what is he going to do? Tank a whole season to hope to get the best draft position?

Well, it's not out of the question. He could always have his eye on a guy like Matt Leinart or some other current backup.

I guess I thought that Colt played an under center version of the option, didn't realize that he took mostly shotgun snaps.

Its the exact same offense that Texas used when Vince Young was their.

He's nothing but an ego-maniacal moron. This season is going to be a huge ego check and I'm going to laugh when he gets fired.

go for it. mcCoy is pretty good even though i like bradford more. orton sucks. simms is 0/10. and the team is rebuilding. they need to get rid of marshall even if he is a top 10 WR.

Considering its the weakest division in the league. The Chargers should be charged a fee to play in that JV division.

You don't trade away 25 year old Pro Bowl quarterbacks. You just don't do that. The peace of mind that comes with knowing you have a quality starter at the game's most difficult position through the year 2020 is worth a lot more than a couple of draft picks.

Haha, now he wants a high first round pick in the draft next year? Well he could have had one, but instead he traded it away for a 2nd round pick in last years draft! The dude is a complete waste. So, they get rid of a SB winning coach, a pro bowl QB, and are now going to get rid of their pro bowl WR for Josh McDaniels? Hahaha, Pat Bowlen must have lost his mind.

Well, I'm not sure what McDaniels has been doing or what he hasn't been doing, but letting Cutler go....big mistake.

No, he's just an idiot. Giving up a young franchise QB before even coaching one game is as loony as it gets.

I can see this season being a complete failure for him, I think that he is going to realize that he made a mistake when trading Cutler.
