The Detroit Pistons out of no where fired Michael Curry after only one year of coaching.

He had a bad year but there werea lot of trades and roster moves that pinned him in a bad corner.

So who will take over?

I'm guessing either Avery Johnson or Doug Collins.

I really don't think that the A.I. trade should have made the Pistons that much worst. I mean look at the season before. They were a 55+ winning team. They were contenders. With Curry and Iversion they still should had been a 2nd rounder in the east. They should had been better than the hawks. But they were a under .500 team and getting destroyed by the Cavs. they should had not been that bad of a team. I think a guy like Avery Johnson would be a perfect coach in a place like detroit.

Wow, this is more of a railroading job then Amtrack

The Pistons sold away their talent to save money and the coach that dealt with this crap roster then gets fired?

REALLY?

Yeah...it really just seems like Curry's the scapegoat here. Dumars is really at fault, but he wasn't going to be fired because he has a good track record (with the exception of the AI/Billups trade).

Yeah Curry definately got screwed; he met with the media just 24 hours ago so this came out of no where. And right now, the rumors about Doug Collins are swirling around like crazy and that Curry got fired because free agents don't want to play for him. Dumars built the Pistons up from crap once; maybe he can do it again.

I don't think that it is the right time to take a chance with Lambeir; I don't think Dumars can hire another inexperienced coach ( and don't say he has experience coaching the shock). His name is coming up though.

The trade had to be made. The Pistons were not going to win a championship with Billups. He was actually playing very lackluster the last season and a half with the Pistons. The trade to Denver gave him a spark; he would not have played that well for Detroit. THey took a chance with Iverson and planned on cutting him anyway to free up salary cap space for the 2010 season when all the big names are coming out.

I still don't know why they fired Flip Saunders. And the A.I. Trade wasn't his fault but he will workout.

Yeah, so they blow up the roster and Curry has to deal with all the AI BS and he's the one that gets fired??? This was all Dumars' doing. Curry should have gotten more than one year. No one can win consistently with whiny ass Allen Iverson on the team.

This is good news, the poor guy doesn't have to suffer with that organization anymore.

Sure, because stinking with Iverson is better than being with "lackluster" Billups and losing in the Conference Finals? And what was son lackluster about Billups play?

He wasn't driving to the hoop, he was making bad decisions, and was turning it over a lot more. In Denver you could see he had more of a jump in his step and was way more focused. Now I definately would have liked to see the Pistons lose in the Conference Finals more than the debacle that occurred this past year but I understand why Dumars made the trade; it was a salary dump. Getting to the finals wasn't enough for this organization so they needed to start over. The biggest rip on the old "Bad Boys" of the late 80's and early 90's was they tried to hold on too long without making any of the necessary changes. Dumars was a part of that and did not want to see that happen to this core so he started the rebuild and took a gamble on AI.

All they need is 1 high level free agent this summer and 1 high level free agent next summer. This will be the first time Joe hasn't had to settle for mid level guys because of money.

Think about it guys, when most teams go through rebuilding they miss the playoffs. The Pistons almost went .500 and went to the playoffs, thats a lot better than other teams in the same situation.

Edit: Looks like gordon will be the man this year, I don't know where he would fit in except 6th man. Hopefully at least one of those forwards that got drafted will work out this year.

 Are we seeing completely different teams and coaches here? Because when I look back on this past season, I see a terrible rookie coach, who never had a gameplan and had zero ability to deal with any personnel problem that came his way. People like to say that Dumars made major roster changes with Iverson, and that's true from a skillset standpoint. But remember that that was the only change he made from the start of the season, and all the other players were still there. Curry was either too incompetent or inexperienced to deal with the problems, and neither option is good enough for a quality organization like the Detroit Pistons. Let unsure coaches earn their stripes on some third-rate team, not here.

I also don't understand the "fire Dumars" sentiment. Since his eight-year tenure, the Pistons have made it to the playoffs in all but his first year, made the Conference Finals six years straight, the Finals twice and have won a championship. The team hasn't been in luxury-tax hell like so many other competitive teams, and in fact has mountains of cap space right now. Dumars has made plenty of errors - Darko and Curry come to mind as bone-headed mistakes - but he's not afraid to cut his losses and fix them. He sure isn't a perfect GM, but he's a hell of a lot closer to it than most others in the league.
