I'm very glad about this

Once the doctors said they couldn't guarantee that he wouldn't break down during the season the choice had to be made.

Lose a little ground at the start of the season so you're able to be healthy at the end, not the other way around.

Knowledge is power!

Thats great news as a Yankee fan. He should be back the first week of May, meaning he'll only miss 3 weeks of the season :)

Don't try to reason with Sox fans, much can't.

You've heard it hear first. This injury will happen again for A-Rod during the season.

A cyst?

It could

Considering his background there's a very small chance he could get another cyst but it's possible. The main thing is to repair the hip itself, once that's done as long as he stays on top of his health if another cyst forms and it's drained without bursting in his body he should be good the rest of the season.

I didn't say that. But you guys are saying it isn't bad that A-rod is out 6-9 weeks. What good can come of this? Plz explain.

Arod missed a month last year too guys, and they still won 89 games, only 6 less than the Red Sox.....this also doesnt account for Wang missing most of last season, Darrell Rasner and Sydney Ponson being everyday starters due to injury, Jorge Posada and Hideki Matsui being out of the lineup, Cano having his worst season since entering the bigs, and a terrible 3rd base coach (Bobby Meacham) who I personally watched blow 3 games for them in 2008

Discounting the Yankees because A-Rod is going to miss 3 weeks of the season is ludicrous when you take into account all they went through LAST YEAR and still almost pulled it off.

Some other guy said the collapse was starting so they responded by saying it's not the end of the world........

I feel the Yankees will give in to the pressure this year, too much competition in the AL East. I'd like to see how CC does though.

You should be more worried about Burnett than CC. He's a Red Sox killer.

The timing is perfect. It allows the Yankees to have time to look over players while at the same time they've seen A-Rod get into the swing of things with the team

They added pitching in the offseason

A-Rod starts seasons hot. He'll be swinging a bat a week after the surgery. That means a month in you'll have the normal A-Rod numbers

This is not optimal but it's not bad

Ortiz will get hurt. Lester won't live up to this contract. Pedroia will crash into Youkilis on a pop fly and never get back to his MVP numbers. See, we can all make baseless predictions!
