Guy will be 27 and still in his prime next offseason. 1 MVP, 3 batting titles, plays the most demanding position in the game and is consider a leader and character guy. He is due a Mark Teixiera-esque type of contract. But from what team will he get it?

Want to add that since the Twins owner died their sons have pick up the load and have been spendin money and taking some contracts. Player development, prospect signings and international scouting have seen an uptick of cash. This is probably due to the new stadium and the change of leadership like I said. I mention this because rumors has the Twins will actually make a descent offer to Mauer with the usual home town discount, but not the "home town discount and then some" that some baseball people saw coming.

I would think the Yanks. He comes in as Posada goes out and they got the money. But they got Montero, but he could be very nice trade bait for something. But he's from Minnesota. If they'd be willing to pay, even a little bit less, he could stay there, at home.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^and I say that because if for some reason Mauer becomes a free agent he WILL be a Yankee. That's it. Book it. If not, Mauer stays a Twin, Sox resign Martinez and will hold on to Georgie until Montero is ready.

I would say the Yankees because they have tons of money and Posada is on the decline. Also, they seem to sign the big names lately so...

Also if the Twins don't sign him... they may as well not try to sell tickets.

Not really, the Twins have one of the best farm systems they'll bring up good players, they don't need 1 guy to sell tickets like some other clubs.

I'd love to get him to the Sox as this is Victor's last year. I think he'll stay in Minnesota though

I'm pretty sure the Twins are going to try their hardest to keep him. So I expect him to stay with Minnesota.

Aren't they opening a new stadium? Farm players don't bring in ticket sales...

Who knows for sure, but I think he'll end up playing for the yankees. They'll probably be one of a few teams that will give him top dollar. Not sure how many players can say they'll give up $$$ and a great chance to make the playoffs/world series.

A new stadium brings in ticket sales, also doesn't it seat less people?

Ask the yankees and mets about their new stadium. Elite players bring in ticket sales--people want to see the A-Rods, Roy Halladay pitching, etc... You're not gonna fill stadium seats with farm players. This is why everywhere the Yankees play, ticket sales are up. [QUOTE="X360PS3AMD05"][QUOTE="feryl06"]Aren't they opening a new stadium? Does it apply to a team like the Twins? I think they have a strong fan base who realizes by now that their players will be bought by the big cities but yet they're still competing for the AL Central title every year. A new outdoor park alone will bring people.

yanks and mets? i was under the impression that they had some trouble selling tickets. even when the yankees made the playoffs i remember reading somewhere that there was like 5 thousands tickets still avail. but anyways, theres no way the twins are going to let mauer go, where ever he ends up playing it wouldn't shock me if ends up with a 200 million dollar contract

I don't see why the BoSox won't try and keep Victor Martinez though. The guy is a stud! I really think the Spankees will get him (even though I don't want them to) because they will really need him then and will throw all kinds of money at him.

He'll stay in Minny. That'd be awful if he went to the Yankees.

For a little while but if the team stinks... and you let a very popular hometown boy go... not for very long.

They can move V-Mart to play 1st base and move Youkilis to 3rd base and bam Maur at Catcher. Lowell will be traded or waived and V-Tek is going to be the backup. That is how the scenary will play out.

Ha, what makes you believe that the Red Sox would sign Mauer if the Yanks want him too?

Erm, perhaps Mauer will realize the Yankees are the Empire and will lead him to hate them especially after this past postseason so by a fluke the Red Sox entice him enough to come to the beautiful town of Boston :) Like a wise man wearing number 5 in 2007 said, "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLLEEEEEE"
