The main reason why some players never reach their true potential in the NBA is attitude, in my opinion.

There are other reasons (Injuries, sickness, bad teams, bad coach/GM, bad situation, etc.)

A good example for bad attitude is Vince Carter. One of the most talented players in the past 15 years, but never could get over the hill. It's infuriating because he had and still has TONS of talent. You could make a point for Steve Francis, Stephon Marbury and such.

As for Injuries, there's the most obvious pick ever : Grant Hill (that would have been Walton, but I'm keeping this thread for today's NBA). There's also the likes of Greg Oden.

I'm missing on a lot of players (Damon Stoudamire, Chris Webber, Tracy McGrady, etc.).

But one player who I keep thinking of is Amar'e Stoudemire. I watch him play sometimes and wonder "Why the hell isn't he averaging 30 and 15 every night?" He has incredible athleticism, he's very quick for a 6'11" guy (he can blow by ANY center in the league, with ease), a very decent jumper up to 18', gets to the line easily, dunks on every single human being in the NBA, HE FREAKING PLAYS WITH STEVE NASH, who enhances his teammates stats by at least 50% etc. It just seems like he doesn't give a crap half the time. And he can't be bothered playing defense. That is frustrating, because you can see how talented he is, and then, he doesn't perform consistently like he should...

Who is yours?

EDIT : Yeah Beasley is incredibly frustrating. He just doesn't seem to care most games.

JR Smith is somewhat of a mystery, he's the most insconsistent player I've ever seen. Seriously, I've seen him hit four, five if not six 3s in a row, steal a couple of passes, dunk over people, score 35 in 28 minutes. Then another game he doesn't even score. That's gotta be a record. If there ever was a way to calculate inconsistency, he'd win hands down.

It's Amare. He's too much of an idiot and cares more about his stats than winning to play defense. Dude's a moron. I don't really care because I hate him and his team so yeah.

Michael Beasley - Came out of college with the same stature of a Kevin Durant. Dominated Big XII play and

single handedly brough K-State back to National Prominence. The problem is his laziness was fine against

college players, not so against the bug boyse. Beasley is just SO DAMN LAZY. Doesn't defend, doesnt rebound,

never plays hard. All he's good at is smokin weed. So frustating

Tracy McGrady- Has never won a playoff series. Nuff said. I know he's recently had injuries but even when healthy was just a scorer.

Carmelo - I know he's so damn good but has the offensive talent to be one of the greatest scorers in history. Can shoot, and post up

just doesnt play consistenly hard especially when his shot isnt falling. He's a future HOF'er regardless but he has the ooprtunity

to go down as one of the greatest ever.

Gilbert Arenas - Amazing scorer. Dont believe me watch his 60 point game against Kobe, but he is what is known as a "CHCUCKER". Arenas

loves to shoot (no pun intended). When his shot isnt falling, he like to shoot even more, and sometimes he looks lackadaisical espcially on defense.

This is ven before his recent injuries.

^ definitely Michael Beasley. Dude frustrates the hell out of me smiling all the time yet he's as dumb as a rock. He has a sweet stroke and some nice athletic ability but that's it. The guy plays as much D as Amare, he's not tough at all, and he hasn't improved the problems he had coming out of college. If he would have became the player Miami thought they would get Wade would be staying in Miami however Wade is gonna be going to a winning team now or at least be matched up with a all star caliber teammate

T-Mac. Dude is/was crazy talented but his attitude and injuries may have cut his career short. I know injuries happen so I will give him a little slack on that one. But his attitude was horrible. When you publicly admit that you did not give your 100% in alot of games I lose alot of respect for you. Who cares how bad the team was,you still obligated to be their for your teammates and more importantly the fans. That just shows how selfish you are. If Im getting paid millions to play a sport I would bust my butt every day no matter what. The fans and my teammates would never question my loyality to them or the game.

Tracy McGrady for me. Maybe I'm too high on his talent but I've always felt he had the potential to be one of the elite players of at the past 20 years, if not more.

Luol Deng. The Bulls could've traded him and a couple other guys (I forget who...I think it was Tyrus Thomas and Kirk Hinrich) for Kobe Bryant a few years ago. The Bulls wouldn't do the trade because they thought Luol Deng was going to turn into a superstar. He's not a bad player, but he's ALWAYS hurt with something and he's pretty replaceable.

Beasley for sure. He's a big ol' tease. You think he's finally gonna bust out when he has a couple nice games, but then he just plays horrendously for a week. No defense, no rebounding, etc. He can certainly score, but not efficiently because he doesn't get to the line. He might score 20 points, but it will take him 20 shots to accomplish it. Relies too much on the jumper.

Doesn't show up for big games? the dude scored 40+ in a game against cleveland in the ECF last year, and any game in the playoffs is big. Plus this playoffs, he messed up bad in the first round but he's still averaging 5 blocks a game so far this postseason. Thats a pretty bold statement to say he NEVER shows up in big games. Even Kobe Bryant isn't always scoring 30+ points in the playoffs and he's suppossed to be the best scorer in the leauge. Not saying that makes him a bad player at all, but you really aren't giving Howard the credit he deserves.

Did you know that until this year with the Suns, Grant Hill had never been to the second round of the playoffs?

Someone who has always disappointed me is Lamar Odom. This guy has an all-around game that can really take over at times. He can score, has point guard handles, vision, and passing, has the height and length to be a good defender, a good rebounder, and yet his whole career he's pretty much amounted to nothing. He's got superstar reputation but w/average career stats at best. He has got to be the most expensive role player there is.

Amare Stoudemire is pretty annoying too. With his athleticism and height he should be averaging over 2bpg and well over 10rpg.
