To me, incidents that happen on the field are more significant than off-field because the integrity of the sport is being compromised. That means baseball's steroid problem and the NBA referee scandal is worse than Michael Vick's legal problem, no matter how bad it seems.

How about O.J. Simpson? Or the fixing of the World Series many years ago?

I'll take the NBA ref betting. Your supposed to be able to trust your referees, and when you have them betting and fixing games, that is really bad.

The others appears to be one person involved, for what we know... but the steriods issue could easily be 20 to 50% of the league.

shows how "bad" marijuana is....

anyway, definately the NBA ref scandal. any time you have refs possibly fixing games for their bookies, it's not a good situation.

Yeah, but that was in 1911. Don't today's players make too much money to risk doing something like the Black Sox? Maybe I'm a bit naive, but if I was making the amount these players do,I would make sure I didn't do anything to risk the loss of my job.

yeah, i didn't put the black sox scandal in because that was nearly a hundred years ago (1919 though, not 1911)and society and politics were completely different back then. black people still weren't even close to being allowed to play baseball and gambling and corruption were far more common than now. i figured i'd post stuff more recent that more people can relate to.

The Chicago Black Sox are the reason Pete Rose is banned for life(indirectly, of course). If ever someone wants to speak ill of Professional Sports, citing monetary gain over love of the game, it is the perfect example. It may have many decades ago, but that does not diminish the significance of it.
