The Mavericks will send New Jersey the semi-retired Keith Van Horn in addition to Trenton Hassell, as well as Devin Harris, Sagana Diop, Maurice Ager, two first-round picks and cash. In the exchange Dallas will get Kidd and Malik Allen.

It's a good trade for the Mavs b/c they get a top 3 PG, but the Nets are coming down with a jackpot. They get a point guard to build around that they can match up with Krstic and Jefferson in the future (Carter will probably be traded later on) and they get 2 first rounders to help fill in the holes. They weren't going anywhere with Kidd or without, so getting Harris and two first rounders are great for them.

If you're a Jackass that don't believe my word, here:evil:

Nets fans have reason to be excited again. It looks as though the deal is money on Monday. The Mavs are selling the farm to get Net's dead weight PG, Jason Kidd.

Kidd may make some differences in Dalls but his hopes of winning a ring are circling the drain and his chances don't look much better on a Mavs team that still lacks any real low post presence and seriously lacks experience in the head coaching department.

Poor Kidd. I would almost feel sorry for him if not for his millions of dollars in the bank.

The Mavs ended up doing exactly what Mark Cuban said they would NEVER do which is throw Kieth Van horn in the trade which will cost them a hefty luxury tax this year. I guess the one thing you can't take to the bank is Cuban's word.

Suckers!

I wasn't happy with the trade for the Mavs before and I am not exactly thrilled now .... but at least they would get to keep Jerry Stackhouse. They need some kind of a bench.

I think its a win win situation for both teams.. the nets get some stuff to look to the future with. And the Mavs have one of the greatest pg's the league has ever seen, who can put up a triple double on any given night. Lets face it.. Dirk isnt getting any younger, hes at his prime (MVP last year..) So Cuban is doing the right thing in my opinion... hes getting a all star point guard to go with Dirk, Terry, etc.... The Mavs are looking to win the ring this year or next year, at least thats what CUban is thinking.

Haha agreed. Nets made out like bandits. How long do you think Kidd will last until retirement? No where close to how long all this young talent will last the Nets. Great trade for a team trying to rebuild.

Great trade for both teams, glad it went through. People seem to think Harris has the potential to become better than Kidd.

Hahaa!!! this is not a terrible trade if Mavs since they want win NOW! Plus, the west isn't getting weaker anytime soon, and they lost two previous years with the same lineup, so why not a change? This is just like the KG trade. Everyone said it was dumb, but look where the Celtics are now.

Kidd a top 3 point guard? Despite his age, I'd still take him over Nash and either of the young ones (Williams and Paul).

By the time all that young talent gets good enough to compete at a high level, the Mavs current star players will be dead weight. They need to win now, and getting Kidd was essential. Without a good big man left on the trade market, Kidd was the best man available. He's right up there with Nash as a point guard, and he'll get the Mavs shots that they never got before with Harris.

I completely agree with all that you said but unfortunately for the Mavs it still won't be enough to get them over the hump. They may even have a harder time against San Antonio with this new lineup. We will just have to wait and see but to me it doesn't look good for them in a stacked Western Conference.

I guess i understand why the Mavs and Suns did what they did. I still don't think it's enough to win a title though.

I watch the Mavs night in and night out, and I've never seen anything that would make me think Harris is better than a really good point guard. He'll be good, but I don't think he's nearly as good as some talent evaluators make out.

Then again, I'm not exactly a professional at talent evaluation, so...

Chauncey is not a pure pg! Why do you think the Celtics traded him? he is a shoot first pg above anything and has never averaged more then 8 ast once in a season besides the 05-06 season.

Umm this is a bad trade for the Mavs they have no Depth at C so the Mavs are gonna have to sign some scrub and use up there MLE for him just to back up Dampier who is also a horrible C. The Mavs will mak eth eplayoffs but not any further. They are worst then there last years team.

I don't see Carter staying with the Nets much longer. The trade deadline is past, so he'll have to stay the rest of the year with them, but there was talks of trading Carter, possibly to the Kings for Artest.
