The article says he ran and passed the sprint. Twice. And not just any sprint, but a 300 yard sprint. Twice.
Then apparently Shanahan asked for a third which was both unexpected and (according to Haynewsorth) unprecedented.
Haynesworth is a turd and one of the least likable players in the league, but this time it sounds like Shanahan was purposefully looking for a confrontation.
I actually don't find this all that surprising. When I played high school football everyone (and we had some 275lb+ linemen) were required to run 300 yard sprints repeatedly at the END of practice. You'd start at one goal line, run all the way to the other end, and sprint back. Everyone did this at least five times most practices, and depending upon our performance at practice, sometimes it was more. The fact this is such a big deal for any NFL player seems a bit silly, but I guess being really large makes up for a lack of athleticness nowadays.Dude 300lbs+ guy running 300yard sprintare you serious.

he should be in enough shape to do it. Starting in high school football, running tests are common for every position player.LTomlinson21
Yes, children, they make children run
When they become adults they don't need to run to show they're ready to play their position
This is the start of camp and linemen will never have to run more then 20 yards the entire season unless they're way out of position or they recover a fumble and get an open lane.

He is a professional athlete. While he never will run 300 yards, he still needs to be in shape and show that he is properly conditioned.I never liked haynesworth, but honestly Shannhan's at fault. He's acting like a child. Haynesworth passed the standard TWO sprint test, why make him do a thrid. Just to stick it to albert, I mean come on. Your job is to make this team win games, and instead hes trying to spark more conflict.

Then those high school and college 'children' are more athletic than this guy and I hold them in a much higher regard.

Precisely.
A player is never required to perform a standing jump at any moment during a game, yet it's a large part of the scouting process.
The whole 'they don't do this in game so they shouldn't have to ever' argument is a bit ridiculous. Baseball players run ALL the time, yet how often do they have to run during the game? Not much.
I don't think people are paying attention to the coach's reasoning. If the guy had 5 minutes between runs, and everyone else had like 15 seconds, there's no problem with making him run again. Of course we don't know what exactly transpired, so nobody is in a position to say whether the coach was in the right or wrong. All we can do is comment on whether or not we believe a professional athlete should be held to a higher standard of athleticism.I never liked haynesworth, but honestly Shannhan's at fault. Hey I'm sorry but the guy just took $21 million from them last spring and has been nothing but a cry baby since that time. He disrespected the team when he said he might not play at all because he doesn't want to play in the defensive scheme they have there. Shanahan should do what he is doing.Shanahan is Boss. Haynesworth should do what he says and shut up. Master_LiveYea, I hate Haynesworth, people forget that he deliberately stomping on a Cowboys Andre Gurode head when his helmet was off. I hate this guy, hes a joke to himself and the NFL. He doesn't care about the sport he just in it for the money. The owner for the Redskins is an idiot for giving him that huge contract, making his ego higher. I spit on Haynesworth. /end rant.
