Go to the ESPN NHL podcast.  Keith Jones is saying that he could wind up in either San Jose or LA.  I don't really know, but I think his wife is from California, and his offseason home is in Manhattan Beach.  If Drury leaves (he grew up cheering for the NY Rangers) I hope its out West.  I'd hate for the Sabres to play against him in the playoffs.

Yeah, it will suck if the Sabres lose Briere and Drury, but at least it frees up money to keep the younger guys and maybe bring in some toughness.

So Michael Nylander lets go of his agent who is usually team friendly and had negotiated a deal to stay with the Rangers.  Bye New York, well Mike, lets see how you do without Jagr on your line.

Someone add the Sundin deal (if it is 11mil/2 years) to the list of reasons why Feguson should be fired. Sundin might be worth 3 million a year now, maybe.

Some teams have been signing their prospects to entry level deals.  I wonder if more teams will follow this model.

I wish. I can't believe they are going to resign him for the amount of money Smitty was apparently asking for. As much as I hate McCabe him plus the mullet would score so many PPGs that the goal lights at the ACC would explode.

The New York Islanders buy-out F Alexei Yashins remaining 4-yrs on his 10-yr/$87.5-mil deal ($26.45-mil remaining, two-thirds to be paid off in next 8-yrs at $2.2-mil against cap a yr)

F Nik Antropov re-signs with Toronto to a 2-yr/$4-mil deal

Thoughts: Great for the Isles to buy out Yashin, who is playing very poorly. They really needed that if they want to re-sign this offseasons best UFA (Ryan Smyth) along with re-signing Jason Blake. I dont really like the re-signing of Antropov for $2-mil, tho I dont really know much about the Leafs and dont like them anyways aha.

That was smart that the Isles made this move.  I remember back when they signed him to that crazy 10 year deal that it would be a horrible mistake.  But knowing the luck of the Isles, Yashin will finish in the top 5 in scoring with his new team.

I think signing Dipietro for 15 years is also a mistake, well see, he played decent this year.

I think signing Dipietro for 15 years is also a mistake, well see, he played decent this year.hockey73

The length is pretty ludicrous, but the season salary of around $4.5 million a year is fine for the time being.

Joe Sakic re-signed with the Avs 1 year, 6.75milllion.hockey73

Sakic needs to really retire imo.

Sundin should not be signed for anything more then 4 million a season for the next two years, he isnt worth it, especially when he was a terrible player this year. Either he needs a low paying contract to allow for more space in the cap to get some good players, or he gets traded/retires. The only other thing he should get is a incentive that if he leads the team to a Cup within those two years, he gets an extra couple of million bucks out of it.

[QUOTE="UssjTrunks"]Leafs sign resign Mats Sundin and then trade for Martin Brodeur.pundog
I wish. I can't believe they are going to resign him for the amount of money Smitty was apparently asking for. As much as I hate McCabe him plus the mullet would score so many PPGs that the goal lights at the ACC would explode.

Ferguson is an idiot and so are the people who run the team. If they had any intelligence they would pay him a 3 million a year contract with an extra couple of million if he gets the team to a Cup. Free up some cap space for new players who will actually be good instead of wasting it on old guys like Sundin, Anton Strallman and Klumenin from the Euro league are supposed to sign with Toronto sometime soon though and they are both good players. There is a reason why Leafs fans call Sundin Captain Clutch ya know, he needs to go.

how the hell does that make sense. yeah after coming off a 100 point season, leading his team in points, and basically one of the main reasons the avs even had a shot at the playoffs. retire....yeah that makes a WHOLE lot of sense. oh yeah not to mention hes a great example to the young players on the team, and provides a alot of veteren leadership.

1) Sakis should definitely not retire - he is still the best player in the league

2) The Leafs should have paid $3-$4-mil at the most for Sundin, or have just let him go to that Euro league

G Nicklas Backstrom re-signs with Minnesota to a 2-yr/$6.2-mil deal

I have a couple of trade proposals for Toronto:

Bryan McCabe for a bag of pucks

Matts Sundin for a retirement home

Hal Gill for some pylons

The entire team for Carey Price

I'm serious about the last one, offer everything you can for Carey Price, that guy is silly good.

The Bruins fire Dave Lewis as head coach and will demote him in the organization

And the Toronot Sun reports that Ottawa GM, John Muckler will be fired. Must be personal because this makes no sense.

Philly trade a first round pick to Nashville for coveted d-man, Kimmo Timonen and forward, Scott Hartnell and signed them to multi-year deals. The Flyers still own the #2 pick in the Draft.

Timmonen and Hartnell signed long term deals in Phillydubbs81

And were HORRIBLY overpayed. This will def. bite Philly in the back when they least expect it. True they are better, but to paya 32 year old in Kimmo Timonen $6 million when he is not to be confused with elite is just plain ludicrous.

There will be some fun trades made today. Toronto already has traded draft picks to San Jose for solid goalie, Vesa Toskala and Mark Bell.

Also Gary Roberts and Mark Recchi are staying in Pittsburgh for another year.

By some act of god Angelo Esposito falls to Pittsburg, who clearly needed another young, scoring forward.

w00t, nice pick up for the Leafs. Thats the final element that kept them out of the playoffs this past season. Next year should be a lot better for them, Vesa Toskala as their starter and Andrew Raycroft as the backup, plus recently acquired Anton Strallman and Simon Gamache, two formidable Swedish player, Strallman was nominated MVP at the last international hockey tournament where he scored 1 goal and a handful of assists. Plus add on to that Jiri Tlusty and Nikolai Kulemin into the lineup and we could have a team that will dominate next season.

Colorado sign F Ben Guite (2-yr deal) and F Cody McCormik (1-yr deal)

Colorado re-signs F Tyler Arnason to a 2-yr deal

Boston re-signs F Brandon Bochenski to a 1-yr deal

Florida re-signs F Nathan Horton to a 6-yr/$24-mil deal

Carolina re-signs F Scott Walker to a 3-yr deal worth $7.5-mil

Anaheim re-signs G Jean-Sebastian Giguere to a 4-yr deal worth $24-mil

Toronto re-signs D Carlo Colaiacovo to a 3-yr extension worth $3.85-mil a season

Calgary trades D Andrei Zyuzin and prospect Steve Marr for D Adrian Aucoin

Calgary trades 1st-rnd pick (18th overall - Ian Cole) to St. Louis for 1st-rnd pick (24th overall - Mikael Backlund)

Toronto trades 2007 1st-rnd pick (9th overall - Logan Couture), 2007 2nd-rnd pick and 2009 4th-rnd pick to San Jose for G Vesa Toskela and F Mark Bell

San Jose re-signs D Craig Rivet to a 4-yr/$14-mil deal, worth $3.5-mil a season

Pittsburgh re-signs F Gary Roberts (1-yr/$2.5-mil) and F Mark Recchi (1-yr/$2-mil)

Florida trades 2008 1st-rnd pick, 2007 2nd-rnd pick (58th overall), and 2008 2nd-rnd pick to Nashville for G Tomas Vokoun

Ottawa re-signs F Dean Mccamond to multi-yr deal

Philedalphia trades 1st-rnd pick (from Peter Forseberg deal) to Nashville for rights to D Kimmo Timonen and F Scott Hartnell

Philedalphia sign D Kimmo Timonen (6-yr/$37.8-mil for $6.3-mil a season) and F Scott Hartnell (6-yr/$25.2-mil deal for $4.2-mil a season)

Tampa Bay signs D Shane O'Brien to a 2-yr/$2-mil contract

Juice's thoughts on trades and draft: nice deals and lots of surprises in the draft. I forsure thought Turris would go 1st or 2nd but 3rd is still good. Cherepanov 17th-overall is a bit strange but lots of questions about his dedication and coming to the NHL make it not so surprising. Angelo Esposito going 20th is very surprising, and going to the Pens makes him yet another talented offensive young forward on that team.

Vancouver aquires F Ryan Shannon for F Jason King and a conditional 2009 pick

Vancouver trades F Jesse Schultz to Atlanta for D Jimmy Sharrow

Montreal trades G Michael Leighton to Carolina for a 7th-rnd (192 overall) 2007 draft pick

Anaheim re-signs D Sean O'Donnell (2-yr/$2.5-mil) and D Kent Huskins (2-yr/$1.25-mil)

Juice's thoughts: Being a Canucks fan, I was excited Vancouver was pulling some deals. Ive never heard of Sharrow before but we didnt give up much for him, and Shannon sounds great, especially for only King.

The Oilers are trying to sign Scott Gomez.

Would be a good addition on July the 1st but we still need a good puck-moving defensmen.

After the Toskala/Bell trade San Jose has pretty much guarenteed they're going to sign Drury, Gomez, Smyth or some other top free agent.

I don't think they have the cap room or enough talent to draw a top free agent, although I'd love to see JFJ throw money at Smitty like there's no tomorrow. The best move would be for Toronto to move McCabe, my proposal:

To Anyone: Bryan McCabe

To Toronto: A used net, 12 pylonsand a bag of pucks.

Makes sense too, because those pylons would play better defense than McCabe can. The guy is a total plug.

the one thing i want the Canucks to do this off-season: sign Ryan Smyth and trade off Nazzy or Morrison or both for some cheap, good offensive centers. That would bring alot of offense to the team, a strong leading captain, and make me love the team much more.
