Just in, Shaq has been traded to Cleveland for Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic, the 46th (2nd round) pick in this years draft, and cash considerations. Lebron finally gets the help he needs. Yet the big question now is can Shaq stay healthy for the entire season? Full story. Does this now automatically make the Cavs the favorites next year?

it depends how hard Shaq aka "snaq" works in the off season. If he comes out the way he did when he was traded to the heat then they can definitely be a force. Now Lebron can't be complaining about not having any help on his team

This gives them a low post player but they still haven't addressed their 4 spot. If they happen to play Orlando in the Eastern Conf Finals next year Rashard Lewis will still KILL Varajeo, Joe Smith, or whoever because none of them can guard him at the perimeter and they are offensive liabilities so they can't match his numbers on the other end. If they could pick up someone like Jamison, then i think they'd be set, but they don't have anybody left to trade that has any value with the exception of Hickson, and that may be stretching it.

I have high hopes for Shaq, he has Lebron now, who has been often been compared now with Kobe (I hate him). The magic that Shaq had was always a small shooter, like Kobe and Wade, though the Shaq-Wade combo didin't have any effect after a few seasons. Now we need to see how this combination is executed. Also Shaq is one of my favorite players of all time. :)

Will Shaq clog up the middle too much for Cleveland, maybe taking away from Lebrons strengh (thunder dunks)? I know lebron is apt to hit Shaq down low with great passes but.....

News flash:I AGREE WITH sixringz:shock:, The Cavs have other issues to address too. Personally I hope they make the finals against L.A. and Kobe rams one down Shaq's, aka Shaqclown, aka Slack, aka Snack's throat for the title winning basket of a 4 game sweep! Don't know which would be more sweeter for me, that or beating a healthy Boston by about 50 pts for the title. Unlike MJ, Shaq is one dude I don't care much for!

Wallace used to be good, awhile back when he was with Detroit. He's getting older just like Shaq, I think this will benefit Cleveland more.

Come on Mont you know damn well you want to see Clv vs LA. I don't care about "tradition" and "great rivalries" or "revenge for the 08 finals". I don't care how much those 2 downplay it, they still don't like each other. Kobe vs Shaq AND LEBRON in the finals. Are U Kidding Me? Do you know how high the ratings would be for that. I can only imagine the puppet commercials. HAAAA HAAA!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to bet on an injury taking him out for most of the season, or at least some kind of fued between him and Lebron. I can't see them being good teammates.

For next season? Already? But the draft hasn't even been made yet for that. I really think Cleveland should have gone after someone like Chris Bosh.

I thought Wallace was retiring? Does this mean that Phoenix is just eating up his contract if he does retire? It's a good deal for Cleveland---all or nothing kind of thing to keep Lebron there. But then again, it's not like Shaq's gonna be there for years later. I say Lebron still goes after his contract is up. Mentally, Shaq still has something to give, but I'm not sure if his body still does. It'd be great to see though if he can last a season/playoffs.

He wasn't even that good in detroit, the thing was he had a lot of chemistry with sheed, making them an unstoppable wall of defense. I wonder if he wished he would of took the slightly smaller deal and stayed in detroit.

I wouldn't bet on them being good teammates. LeBron is very easy to get along with if you watch there games and press conferences.

When I saw this trade last night, I was pretty damn excited. The Shaq Daddy is just hilarious, so my friends and I love him. He is older and not as dominant as he use to be, but compared to the big men the Cavs had last year, this is a huge upgrade. Someone who will actually score down low and has the strength to guard Dwight Howard.

The good thing is that we didn't have to give much at all too get him. Pavlovic was decent to have just because he was a guard with size. That's why in the draft I kind of want the Cavs to get another guard with size. Then if any cap space is available, sign a decent big man who can guard forwards that play fast(Odom, Lewis).

i think the favs for next season go as follows

1. Lakers

2. Celtics

3. Spurs/Nuggets

4. Cavs

5. Magic

i think Shaq will slow down the Cavs game and take a lot of attention away from lebron. i think they should get to the eas finals, but then again i thought they'd get to the NBA finals this year

they just don't have that killer instinct

and dont forget guys the Spurs have a habit of winning titles when you least expect it. RJ, TD, Manu and Parker are going to really hurt the west and if Mason and Hill come along even more so, geez!

wow 1st off dont jump on the spurs bandwagon yes they got a got play maker but can they really complete with the deep teams like the lakers and now since denver has emerge can they handle them, i really dont think so. on the whole shaq thing thing though, now the cleveland lebrons now have another huge body to plug the lane and hinder lebron from driving to the basket as much as he would like at least with big z who can step away and shoot an 16 ft jumpshot, lebron could drive and dish. now with and over the hill shaq they're going to get slow and be way more of an halfcourt team which i think will hurt them. the lebron's will still win a whole bunch of games just because they're in the east but they wont make it to the finals next year.

it was clear that the Mavs couldn't stop Duncan or Parker, but they could stop everyone else.

Duncan will be on the inside and when teams double him RJ can slash to the hoop or shoot from outside

A healthy Parker, Duncan, Manu with RJ can beat any team in the league. Esspecially with Roger Mason making game winning shots on so many teams off the bench.

had the Lakers gone thru a healthy Spurs, things could've been different. The lakers still don't have that ability to put people away and keep them down. they get lucky coz young teams like Denver, Orlando make silly mistakes. For ***** sake Aaron Brooks and Shane Battier nearly took out the Lakers. Brooks and Battier!

If Brooks and Battier can nearly eliminate the Lakers, what could a Manu, Duncan, RJ, Parker combination do healthy with the great Pop at the helm?

seriously. i'd like to see the Lakers beat a healthy San Antonio or Boston before people go off claiming their the favorites. Lakers simply beat a team they were better than, doesn't make them the best. Makes them the best when Manu and KG get hurt

I think it was a good trade for Cleveland.. Cleveland gets a bonafide center in Shaq, even if he is past his time, he can still hold his own in the paint.

Isn't Shaq going to retire after next season?

You cant bet LeBron is gonna leave Cleveland if he doesn't win with Shaq... which I don't see happen.

Oh, and who predicted this exact same move a month ago?

I did :P

Not a necessarily a Jim Rome fan but props to him for calling out Shaq's hypocrisy. Rome called Shaq out for saying he can't stand a "front runner" now he is one(whatever Shaq meant by that), and for "ring chasing" by hitching his wagon to D Wade, Nash/Amare and now Lebron, Rome even gave Shaq his share of the blame for screwing it up with Kobe in L.A.

If Shaq gets a ring in Cleveland I'll have to leave the planet.....did I mention I don't like this dude??!

He's not over the hill and they traded nothing for him. If Shaq ends up working out for the Cavs, then he can be re-signed since his deal is up at the end of this upcoming season.

He is 37 and declining in talent every year. Over the Hill. Face it, he isn't as good as he used to be and is 1 or 2 years from hanging it up.

Has everyone forgot about the Celtics. They still might make a move (Boston and Detroit rumors) and even if they dont, they have a good team, and players stepped up last year while Kevin was gone.

Magic look better with Vince, they got beat by the Magic when they didnt have Nelson.

This doesnt change much at a team standpoint the Cavs are still the 3rd best team in the east.

Also how does a 37 year old Shaq whos contract is up after this year help keep LeBron in Cle?

You call THAT a great year, all his numbers are down from where he used to be. Only steals were on par. Face it, he is in major decline and everybody has said it before. This isn't the Shaq we knew in LA, I know some wish he was still that good but he isn't. All players decline, even Jordan did. Shaq surely is no exception to this rule.

This could be very good for the Cavs if they add ONE or TWO moe peices to the puzzle.

What else should they do?

IMO they should get a PF who can shoot the ball (Nowitzki or Troy Murphy type who can shoot the 3 well for a big man) and maybe trade Williams for another PG who is just plain better haha (maybe TJ Ford or Lawson?). I really dont like Williams as a player personally.

Hes definatly not the player he once was, but last year was his best year in YEARS, he got alot better last year when compared to his previous few.

Look at Shaqs stats from last year, on a team that his style of play didnt fit well with.

He doesnt have to be the Shaq of old to help Cleveland. If he can avearge 15 and 8 and be a force on D it should be a very interesting year in Cleveland.

I think this is going to be the Allen Iverson of 2010.

They are going to lose until they put O'neil on the bench and then...on the DL he goes.

I don't think so. It's much easier for a 350-pound, 7'1 man to help a team than a 5'11 aging "point guard."

Yep, but after next season Bosh is a FA and the Cavs will have money to spend on both LeBron and Bosh. The offseason of summer 10' is going to be EPIC.
