Ok well you guys might have heard, but Suns traded Shaun Marion and Marcus Banks to the Heat for Shaq. My opinion is that the deal was foolish. The Suns are a team that loves to run and go on fast breaks. Shaq can't keep up with a pace like that. Also Shaq is getting old and will retire soon, and can't supply the scoring that Marion and Banks contributed. I would say good deal for the Heat, bad deal for the Suns.

1. There's already two topics on this

2. So when Showtime was going on in LA with Magic and company Kareem was running up and down the floor on fast breaks?

I think they did it so someone could guard Tim Duncan. Last season's playoffs, no one could stop Duncan. Phoenix got Shaq to help them out. The same reason LA got Gasol, if they end up playing the Spurs in the playoffs, they have someone to guard Duncan.

I agree. Shaq is washed up and won't be of much use. I hope I'm wrong though.

I agree

Slower and not as good of a passer as Shaq is right now.

The Lakers never ran 5 man fast breaks with him on the floor yet they earned the name Showtime.

True but Kareem was alot more capable player than Shaq is now, plus Steve Nash feeds off of the speed of the team to creat plays.

all you guys hating on shaq are going to be eating your words, sure the suns run and gun but they will be better now because shaq requires double teams in the post still whenever he touches the ball.

Horrible deal for the Suns...Shaq is at the end of his career and he will factor little into their run and gun game plan...and to deal away the Matrix...one of the most versatile players in the game right now...you don't have to run a play for this guy and he'll get you 18pts. 10 rbs. 3 ast. 1 stl 1 blk and 1 three a game!!! That's rediculous!!!

15, 10, and 2 actually but who's counting? lol

As for the rest he wanted out, he did not like being a Sun anymore and made it well known to people everywhere that it was his goal to leave there.

I think its actually a good deal. It'll cost the Suns some regular season wins for sure, but once the playoffs roll around Shaq's size and presence will really help sure up the defence and his leadership will be invaluable.

Good trade if Shaq is healthy but bad trade if he is injured. Amare going agianst PFs and with shaq down low, nobody can double team or else your going to get hit by Shaq. For this to work for the Suns, they need Diaw to step up like he did when Amare was out. Marion is a good player but he wanted out and with him they would not of had a chance to make the finals. It now or never for the Suns because Amare and Nash have 2 years left on their contract and there is on guarantee that they will stay. At least after 2 years Suns will have a huge cap space. SHAQ STAYS HEALTHY THE SUNS WILL BE A HUGE FORCE. Still a gamble but a needed gamble.

Horrible deal, for reasons already stated in this thread.

But what do you expect from a flop of a franchise like the Suns?

yeah shaq is old and slow and no where near as dominant as he once was and Marion is a bigtime player and a crucial part of the suns lineup.

I'm extremely interested to see how this works out for Phoenix come playoff time where the game slows down anyway. Even 20 minutes of good Shaq could solve all of Phoenix's interior problems. Or we'll all cringe watching old Shaq make a fool out of his fat self out there and brick free throw after free throw.

According to insiders either Marion or Amare had to go to clear up unspoken locker room and chemistry issues on the squad, I think they made the right choice but we'll see if they got the right replacement. I don't think anyone can know how this will work until at least another month or two, hard to call it a bad deal just yet.

Bad deal for the Suns because they give up a great player for their system in Marion and get somebody like Shaq who will slow everyone down and is washed-up.

So you think they should have traded away Amare instead?

You think they should trade away the guy that wanted to be there and follow it up by keeping the guy who wanted to leave at all costs?

Wow, you probaly don't even play or even watch basketball, do you know why Suns lost to the Spurs last year? Because Suns didn't have guys to guard Tim Duncan. Yeah at first, I thought it was a bad deal but if you think about it, its a good trade for the Suns. We all know that Suns are going to the Playoffs, and they actually have a chance to go to the Finals, because in the Playoffs, teams that don't have a big guy on their roster has like NO CHANCE of winning the Finals. Golden State is a great fast break team and they did not go far, Suns did not go far. I don't know why everybody is saying its a bad deal.

Oh yeah, Shaq is also going to give tips his players like Amare. He is going to help players to get better except Nash, because Nash is an all round player so Shaq doesn't need to. Shaq is old, we all know that. But he is still one of the dominant Centers in the League.

Now Suns actually have a chance now, they have a guy who can stop Tim Duncan. Just wait and see boys.

"still one of the dominant centers in the league" LOL

He may not be MDE dominant but his PER is still 10th best in the league among centers, and that's with minor injuries, family problems and the diminished motivation that comes with playing on the worst team in the league. I think the change will do him good and he'll play better from here on out. Also, the center with the #1 PER in the NBA? Amare Stoudemire.

Im guessing maybe Mario nreally wanted to leave ive heard alot of controversy on that and if tehy traded stoudemire.well..Suns are dumb than theyd just be dumber lol.

Gonna be weird in NBA 2k9 and live 09 to have shaq o nthe suns lol. His big fatness running around in purple and whtie and yellow. Reminds me of the fat bastard in goldmember
