I think it would be dumb to have an asterisk if they go undefeated. They've proven that the whole spy incident means nothing to their performance that they show every weekend. And of course this happens to be coming from the coach of the only undefeated team in NFL history. I think he's just intimidated that his undefeated Dolphins team will no longer be the only ones that pulled off that feat.

Well...to be fair he didn't make excuses when the Colts were 13-0 a couple seasons ago.

But no there shouldn't be any asterisks. They blew out the Jets so hard that cheating or no cheating wouldn't have made a big difference.

That's not to say that was okay. The ownage still stands.

Either way you look at it, the Patriots are still going undefeated, and pure skill is what they'll win on. They paid the price, now only skill remains.

They really shouldn't have an asterisk. They would've beaten the Jets with or without their signals. Anyone that suggests otherwise is simply misinformed.

Yeah right, if anything the 72 Dolphins deserve an asterisk for playing in a shorter season. In fact, I think that they are the most overrated team in NFL history. I still can't believed they ranked #2 on the "America's Game" series.

(from the 49erswebzone)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The '72 Dolphins are one of the most overrated champions in the history of the NFL. In fact Don Shula admitted that his 1973 team, their second--and last Super Bowl winning team was better, and he may be right. In 1972 the Dolphins won on a wing and a prayer against the easiest schedule of any Super Bowl team ever--winner or loser.

Going unbeaten in the post-season isn't a unique accomplishment. At least one team has done so since the dawn of pro football. Going unbeaten in the regular season is.

But let's examine the Dolphins schedule.

In a 14-game season the Dolphins only played TWO teams with winning records--barely. Both teams were 8-6. They didn't play any playoff teams, any teams with double digit wins. Not once. The winning percentage of their opponents was a paltry .367 or an average of only five wins per opponent

| Week | Opponent | Result | Score |
+--------+-------------------------------+----------+---------+
| 1 | at Kansas City Chiefs (8-6) | W | 20-10 |
| 2 | Houston Oilers (1-13) | W | 34-13 |
| 3 | at Minnesota Vikings (7-7) | W | 16-14 |
| 4 | at New York Jets (4-9-1) | W | 27-17 |
| 5 | San Diego Chargers (4-9-1) | W | 24-10 |
| 6 | Buffalo Bills (4-9-1) | W | 24-23 |
| 7 | at Baltimore Colts (5-9) | W | 23- 0 |
| 8 | at Buffalo Bills (4-9-1) | W | 30-16 |
| 9 | New England Patriots (3-11) | W | 52- 0 |
| 10 | New York Jets (4-9-1) | W | 28-24 |
| 11 | St. Louis Cardinals (4-9-1) | W | 31-10 |
| 12 | at New England Patriots (3-11) | W | 37-21 |
| 13 | at New York Giants (8-6) | W | 23-13 |
| 14 | Baltimore Colts (5-9) | W | 16- 0 |

If the Patriots didn't need to cheat, then why did they? And if the tapes weren't any help, why have they been doing it for quite some time?

The taping didn't happen by accident, it was a calculated move to help the team win. And the tapes aren't the only suspicious thing. The sudden lack of radio comm for visiting teams at New England, especially during key plays? Too many coincidences that favored the Pats to not think the entire organization is corrupt to a certain degree. Actions like that aren't attempted or tolerated without management's consent.

one the communication issue has happened in many stadiums throughout the league, and the league controls t he radios. They have the ability to turn both off if they think there is an issue. Thetapes could potentially help in future games. However this was obviously an issue with several teams in the league unless there would never have been a clarifying memo issued to the league at the beginning of the season.

I agree, this coming from the coach of a team celebrating every time a team is close to coming into an undefeated season but fell short; they celebrate :| I recall one time ESPN interviewing one of the players and seeing the joy in his face when the undefeated team was about to lose; itdisgusted me.

Records are meant to broken, I've always wanted any team in the NFL to go undefeated to get the smirk off those players, I agree the 85 Bears>72 overrated Dolphins. If the Pats go undefeated, there's no question in my mind this team will EASILY be considered a much, much better team than those Dolphins. I guess Shula needs this to help him sleep at night, and funny this came after the Colts game. Talk about downplaying a team.

The Dolphins and Bills are DIVISIONAL oppononets... You don't call having to Play Indy @ Indy, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, San Diego, and Dallas @ Dallas a real schedule? Seems pretty difficult to me.

Yeah. He sickens me. At least, Dan Marino was very, very classy about Manning breaking the TD record and Manning was very classy when asked about Brady on pace to break the new TD record.

Yeah this has to be the dumbest comment of the year so far. Shulas just jealous that the pats look way better than his '72 dolphins did. Sure they went 17-0 but that doesnt make them the best team of all time. I would take the '85 bears before the dolphins.

Well, Belichik has only himself to blame for all that.

Anyway - I have a good feeling about the Steelers ending the Pat's undefeated streak this season anyway. So it may be all moot.

The Steelers look like the perfect ball-control team to sto pthe Patriots.
