So I just bought a copy of their latest issue at work.

Just to give you a sneek peek, Shaq is no. 4 and Duncan no. 8 on the list.

Here's the link to their website.

Thoughts?

Good to see a few old guys on there but George Mikan is WAY too low on that list.

List was before Kobe won his 4th ring. Not by the date but the article says Kobe has 3 rings. I think he'll be higher on the list when it's all said and done.

Jordan at 1 is good but Bird and Magic should be in the top 5. Isiah Thomas was the best short player ever to play and he should be in the top 10 for that he was a great all around player. I'm not liking the list. Tim Duncan is listed way too high so is Shaq. Malone should be ahead of Shaq even though he never won a title but it was Jordans fault he didn't! :P

Iverson should be in the top 20 at least once again hes a great small player he is third in points per game only behind Jordan and Chamberlain which is amazing. Pippen should also be listed higher.

Bill Russell is a little high too sure his team won 11 titles in 13 years but he wasn't a good shooter just averaged around 15ppg on 46% shooting or something like that.

I totally agree that Karl Malone should be higher on the list even without the rings but I don't know if he should be above Shaq just because of how dominant he has been in his career. I actually think Malone should be in the top 10 though for sure seeing as his stats are amazing! He just gets knocked too much since he doesn't have any rings...

I love the list. I think it's right on, except I would not have Allen Iverson at 39, I would have him lower or maybe not even on the list. He is a scorer only, absolutely no defense. He will score 60 points and give up 62.

He's led the league in steals a few times IIRC. That's not offense.

Kidd is not better than Mikan. The rest of the list is debatable everywhere depending on preferred playing styles and importance on rings and such, but that's unavoidable. Not a bad list, I'd say.

I'm not really liking the list. Some players are listed too low, too high, or shouldn't even be on there. Hopefully an updated version won't take too long to come out.

i feel Shaq should be a few spots lower, if not out of the top 10. he's dominate but only in one area, and he only stops slashing PGs, he's never been able to stop the Manus, Kobes, VCs of the league.

He's just big. People act like he's got a great mind or something, but he doesn't. thats why he jumps from team to team. He's simply bigger and more aggresive than others at his position, at a time when the NBA is sorely lacking centers. When all he's going against is Yao and Camby why wouldn't he dominate? He doesn't have the competition of the SG position to work with. He has 4 rings, but the Heat title feels so, Rent-A-Shaq.

Duncan is the best PF ever, really. 4 titles, great sportsman ship and he's smart. Draws fouls like one of the best, and makes his whole team better. Plays insane defense even on the perimeter. Could be the smartest player in the league

Honestly, i think shaq is a great player, but to put him over kareem abdul-jabaar!?!?! Thats insane! Kareem contributed soo much towards the lakers, and he made a lot more accomplishments than shaq, no offense. Like common, Kareem has won so much, such as follows:

Rookie of the Year (1970)
Six-time NBA champion (1971, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988)
Most Valuable Player (1971, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1980) Holds NBA career record for:
Most points - 38,387
Most minutes played (57,446)
Most field goals made (15,837)
Most field goals attempted (28,307)
Most All-Star selections (19)
Most All-Star games played (18)

Not to mention, making the sky-hook shot, one of the most famous shots in the game of basketball. Shaq, your great and all, but common, u still cant compare to Mr. Sky-Hook.

^ and to add to those accomplishments, Kareem would have had at least 2 defensive player of the year awards but they didn't hand those awards out until 1982

If you had to win one game, with the other four other guys on the team being equal, who would you choose? I choose Shaq. Im not saying Kareem is bad, he might be a 10 in a 1-10 scale, but Shaq might be a 10.5

No one is hating on Shaq, it's just ridiculous Slam has Shaq ranked ahead of the greatest Lakers center Kareem.

Stats wise Kareem>Shaq

Skills wise Kareem>Shaq

Championships Kareem>Shaq

Regular Season MVP Kareem>Shaq

the only thing Shaq has on Kareem is 1 more Finals MVP and that's it. Shaq not once throughout his entire career made the NBA's 1st or 2nd defensive team while Kareem made the All Defensive Team 11 times.

The funnier thing is all the people here that think Shaq is somehow a better center. Shaq was more dominant, but Kareem is the best center of all time. 6 rings, all time leading scorer, multiple MVP winner, he trumps Shaq in every accomplishment.

With his fourth ring, Bryant deserve to be in the Top 10. Steve Nash should be a bit higher too, he was the best passer+ 3-point-shooter+ Free thrower in the league for a couple of seasons.

Greatest Center: Russell Best Center: A toss up between Wilt, Shaq, Kareem and Olajuwon. Greatness isn't all about being the best, is also about the "it", the "thing" that can't be measure. One on one Shaq runs over Kareem, while he uses the sky hook over The Diesel until he's too fatigue from all the pounding he would take from The Big Cactus.

the only thing Shaq has on Kareem is 1 more Finals MVP and that's it. Shaq not once throughout his entire career made the NBA's 1st or 2nd defensive team while Kareem made the All Defensive Team 11 times.

The above, and, Kareem has led the league in rebounds, Shaq has not. Kareem has led the league in blocked shots, Shaq has not. I don't even see how Shaq is more dominant than Kareem, or Wilt, or Russell....I cringe every time I hear Shaq or someone call him the "most dominant". Most of the great centers were gone or old by the time Shaq made title runs. Also, in Shaq's 4 titles he has played against some weak centers. Yes Shaq was "dominant" against Rik "absolutely no defense" Smits, Eric dampier(really!), and whoever the heck Philly and the Nets centers were (please).

Plus Hakeem made Shaq cry, that automatically lowers Shaq on the all time great centers list, imo. There's no crying in basketball! (at least not by big muscle bonund centers)!

My first inclination as a Spurs fan is that Tim Duncan was too low, but I can't put him above anyone on that list. However, I think Kareem should be higher than Shaq or Russell.
