I'm the gigantic NFL 2K series fan.  I used to play Madden, but in 2003, I got NFL 2K3 and haven't looked back.  I have turned many of my friends over to the series.

When it lost the license, I was very upset.  I haven't bought a Madden game, despite my love of the NFL, because I don't want to support a shotty product.  I feel that Madden has been subpar for the last 5 years at least.  I liken it to buying a crappy movie game, just because I liked the movie.  ...I refuse to do it.

So, here comes 2K8.  Yay, on priciple.  But realistically, I'm a big fan of the NFL -- the players, the stadiums, the historic situations, the teams.  ...all that stuff about a football game that "doesn't really matter", matters to me.  So I'm torn about buying this game.  I won't be buying Madden regardless, but NFL 2K without the "NFL" just isn't the same.  Hopefully, this is just a stepping stone until they get rights to the license back.

Anyone feel me?

Mostly the same here. I found pros and cons with both games. So i cant really say i wont buy madden. I'm psyched with the fact that theres more football games being developed. Hopefully the rumors of historic players bein used in it are true. If so i'll be building an all-Dolphins team in franchise.

I'm sorta torn, but you gotta realize how dedicated some 2k fans are, we might just end up with an update similar to the one that happened with 2k5 where the rosters and a bunch of other stuff got updated through internet leaks (and you could use action replay to put it on your xbox), the same thing might happen with 2k8...esp since you CAN connect your xbox 360 HD to a computer...I'll probably get both games though (madden and 2k8)

Well I'm sure we all want the NFL license in, but at the end of the day, the logos and real stadiums do absolutely zip for playing the game, so I won't mind in the end. Plus, without the NFL license, they do have some creative room to create their own 'historic' situations and interesting stadiums. I usually play for the franchise mode, anyway, so I always get the new guys that aren't real anyway. Within 10 franchise seasons, my team has no original players anyway.

If you like the 2K football games as much as you say, you won't have any issues playing this new game and loving it. Personally, I'm a Madden fan, but I remember when I had to play Madden on N64 with none of the NFL logos or anything because they didn't have the license. I didn't care because the game was sick! The next year they made a deal with the NFL and I got it back but it never stopped me from loving that original Madden. Just play the game and you'll love it I'm sure.

I don't see what there is to be torn about. I bought Madden 2007 for updated rosters from ESPN NFL 2K5, and I just ended up getting pissed off about how broken the gameplay is in Madden. Rosters are an illusory desire for me. They seem important at first, but without a game that plays well, who cares if you're playing as your favorite team or not?

You all keep comparing this to Madden.  But you really don't have to.  I have no interest in Madden, whether they have official teams or not.

But when buying a complete package, I expect a good license and good gameplay.  ...not just one of the two.

I will buy this soley because like you I bought the first 2k football games and never looked back, ill buy this game because I know for a FACT that every year they always have the best gameplay compared to its competitor and good gameplay is all I ask for. madden has just been a dissapointment in that department the last few years and needs some competition to get back what it lost

Having the license isnt that important you only have to look at pro evo to see what a very good game can do without a license also it doesnt mean they have to be made up players and teams just not exactly the same names so they could easily just change the odd letter in the players names so it sounds very similar and you can tell who it is and with team names it has to be a little more different like on pro evo

Liverpool is called merseyside red as Liverpool is on merseyside and we play in red.

So they could do something like that for the teams

Imagine the amount of time they will be able to put into just the football aspect and gameplay in this game since they dont have to waste hours of getting all the NFL things correct with this game.  I think it will be fabulous.

I'm bummed about the NFL license too, but I really just care about the teams and stadiums not so much the players.  As stated previous they should be able to get a little creative without the license.  I just hope they don't do something stupid, like add some kind of lame story where you start off as an orphan and have to work your way to the pros.

Yeah I was always a Madden fan. But since i bought madden 07 for 360m I'm pissed. It was the worst football game i ever played. The only 2k football game i had was 2k5 and i gotta say it was pretty fun.

Well since you're a Dolphins fan (like me) you should be used to mediocrity by now :P

Anyways, I was not a big fan of 2006 but I LOVED 2007 for the Wii. The controls made the game like new to me and I hope EA improves upon the graphics a bit rather than straight port the graphics again.

it won't bother me too much, I live for football in general - mainly NFL but I will watch any type of football be it NFL, NCAA, CFL.....what will probably happen though is the updates will get put out and you will be able to download them from the internet and give yourself the correct rosters.

I'm probly gonna buy Madden, but I'll probly try out both games. Madden 07 for 360 sucked so bad.
