Did any of you guys watch this game. The referee practically stole 3 points from the USA! This is by far the worst officiating of the World Cup thus far.

The utter joy of watching USA come back to tie, was taking with that call. That was the worst call I have seen in a long time. There was zero offside (And their defender at that was CLEARLY holding bradley) and that was clearly a game winning goal.
If the US beats Algeria, they're still pretty much in right?
maverick_41
Need England to beat Slovenia.

The easiest way for the US to get in is if they beat Algeria AND England beats both Algeria and Slovenia.
I was just wondering what happens if there is a 3-way tie with 5 pts? (e.g. England beat Algreia, but ties Slovenia)

I don't know. I know goal differential is the first tie-breaker, but after that I'm not sure. Here's to hoping the US beats Algeria 6-0. :P

I second that motion! Cheers!
I wish there was some kind of way to appeal that call

Same here. Looks like there's another sport that needs instant replay lol. I know all American sports organizations can overturn calls in the office, but most of them choose not to. But for the ref to spit the bit that badly on this stage is almost unforgiving. That could very well hurt the US later on. What was possibly 7 points may now me 5, provided they beat Algeria.
hahahahaa gutted USA! to be fair though we will beat algeria/slovenia and youll beat algeria and we will both go through...then youll lose to germany.
i guess the yanks only sing when theyre winning...
Don't make it about that. Anyone from any country would be upset if they feel that they could have won the game.hahahahaa gutted USA! to be fair though we will beat algeria/slovenia and youll beat algeria and we will both go through...then youll lose to germany.

What does that even mean? That we're more confident in our team if they win? :? Well obviously.
lol seriously, make it MORE obvious that you aren't used to football...the football chant "you only sing when you're winning" accuses fans of ONLY having high spirits when you win...
guys, not being funny, but if you cant grasp football chants, go home.
You're right, I'm not used to the sport. The only time I'm interested in it at all is during the World Cup.
Your point?

I am at home? And if England makes it, then you lose to Serbia/Ghana???
so you're only a fan when your team has already got to the final stages...sheesh...let me convert that into a language you understand.
thats like me deciding im going to support the lakers, if the lakers were 3-0 up in the playoff final series.
seriousley
:? So the US getting into the group stages, where 32 teams are still remaining = The Lakers just about clinching a championship? How do those two things even compare? If the US was up 3-0 in the final match and I decided to start cheering for them, that would be the equvalent to what you were saying.
It's not that I'm not a fan of the US soccer team when they're qualifying for the World Cup, but I'm definitely not going out of my way to watch a qualifying match against El Salvador.
i was trying to explain to you that its pretty poor show to start supporting a team because theyre successful, then complain when things dont go your way...sorry if the example was a little exaggerated but the point remains.
you watch football when the USA reach the world cup finals (regardless of 32 teams playing, its called the finals) and when they are in the qualification process you dont seem to be invested...

You don't understand. Qualifying games are rarely televised in the US and its not exactly easy to drive across the US to get to games.

Here's how I see it. Everyone treats the World Cup differently. There are the diehard fans (I'm assuming you're part of this group) who will start counting down to 2014 as soon as this year's World Cup is over. In this regard, I can understand where you're coming from -- if one of my favorite teams were making a run at their sports' championship and all of a sudden I saw all these people starting to jump on the bandwagon, it might annoy me a little bit. Hell, it was a little annoying to see these "Blackhawk" fans jump on the bandwagon in the Stanley Cup finals when it was obvious they didn't know a thing about hockey and were pronouncing players' names wrong. But I digress...
But for me, I treat the World Cup the same way I treat something like swimming in the Olympics. It would be awesome if the US came out on top, but at the same time if we lose I wouldn't be heartbroken as long as it's fair. If Michael Phelps was somehow screwed during a swimming event in the Olympics, I'd be a little upset at that too. I don't follow the qualifying for either swimming or the World Cup...I just don't really care about swimming or soccer in comparison to (american) football, basketball, baseball, or hockey.

I agree with you man. Here in the United States, you pretty much hear nothing about Soccer (football) at all until the World Cup actually starts. We just expect that we are going to qualify every single World Cup, so we only get excited when the World Cup finals start. We aren't jumping on the bandwaggon, we just have a hard time following soccer at all until the World Cup finals, simply because it's not on TV and you hardly hear about it, paired with all the other sports we professionally here taking up our attention. It's one thing to start liking the Lakers late because they're doing well, and it's completely different to start rooting FOR YOUR NATION'S TEAM when they play in the World Cup. It's not like they are in some other city, the team represents the entire country. And I agree with you as well about the Blackhawks bandwagon. I was really mad when people mispronounced Toews every time they said it.If anything, it should have been a foul on the Slovenian guy who was bear hugging the bald guy.monkeytoes61
There were tons of fouls that could have been called there, mostly on the Slovenians, but they usually don't get called. It's a real shame. Oh well, Algeria and England tied.
If USA wouldn't play so freaking hard all the time maybe ref wouldn't punish them, but he did. There are a few USA players that should get an instant red card and that is a fact.Shegevarafor what exactly?

i couldve gone back to bed. i couldve put this thread behind me...but tonight we were awful and im humbled in the fact that i backed a team who i genuinely thought would win comfortably.
but im still singing fellas...and im not making excuses about the ref...
That's because in your game the ref didn't disallow the game winning goal even though there was clearly no foul at all. And we're still singing too, our team rallied from a 2-0 deficit and we are one win away from the round of 16.i couldve gone back to bed. i couldve put this thread behind me...but tonight we were awful and im humbled in the fact that i backed a team who i genuinely thought would win comfortably.

ahem...i think england have probably had over the years the greatest number of bad calls against us...sol campbell against portugal, maradona etc etc

Well, that's the past, we're in this World Cup, and the story is that England is showing they have been overrated whilst USA should have clearly had that 3rd goal against Slovenia, the international consensus was that the call was unjust. Please Log In to post.
