What was the big deal with ESPN NFL 2K5?

compared to Madden 09 it was ahread of it's time gameplay wise and presentation wise

mvp baseball 05 and Madden 05 are also less then $1 on amazon ;)

It was a mediocre game that convinced the NFL to choose EA to be the home of it's brand.

In that way it's important part of gaming history.

Much the way Miss O'Leary's cow is an important part of history for "supposedly" starting the great Chicago fire.

With NFL2k5 you got high quality gameplay at the time it was $20 brand new. It was the best NFL game I've ever played. Such a shame how EA and NFL took that series away from us.

I am by no means saying Madden is better, I'm just wondering why everyone thinks it was so much different than all the other football games out there.monkeytoes61

ok guys madden is way better then any 2K football game, the only reason 2k5 was so good was because it was only 20 bucks when it first came out. The reason you dont think its that good is because if you play it today its crap cuz madden 09 is 1000 times better, and if you played the game 4 years ago then it would be a great game for 20 bucks so there

Personally, as far gameplay animation All-Pro has ESPN hands down! If you go to Operation Sports, they still have Roster Updates available for ESPN. The game still has a cult following like no other sports game in history! I'm all about the on field gameplay and I feel All-pro is the best. If I want to play with NFL Rosters I play ESPN NFL 2K5 with updated rosters or Tecmo Superbowl with updated rosters as well. TOO EASY!!!!!!!

People who hate Madden and EA have convinced themselves it's leaps and bounds better than Madden will ever be capable of being. They're fighting a war they won five years ago. 2K5 was better than Madden 2005, no doubt. Unfortunately, I've given up on football games period. 2K can enter the game again all it wants, I'm through with them all.

I think madden 05 was better than NFL 2K5 by a long shot so I don't think 2K5 is a big deal. Madden is much better, end of story.nickdastick

This explains a lot of what makes 2k the undisputed champ. Its the minute details that make all the differences, but even the very basics like the momentum shift of the players show how far ahead 2k was. I think its the greatest sports game ever. And madden 2005 is embarrassing now, it hasn't aged well.

Just taken at first glance, it will be hard to say what makes 2K5 superior. I prefer the feel of the running game in 2K5, but in my opinion, it really takes many, many games played to understand the details that make 2K5 superior.

There really isn't any single part of the game that I could call broken, unlike any of the recent Maddens.

The first time I played Madden 09, I thought it was great, but as I played more games, I noticed more and more things about the game that are broken. After literally hundreds of games of ESPN NFL 2K5, it feels just as good as it did the first time I played it.

I never feel like I am being cheesed by the CPU in ESPN NFL 2K5. If my passes are intercepted or tipped, it is because I made a bad pass, not because some CPU defender makes some impossible move to stop the play.

The players in ESPN NFL 2K5 seem to move a lot more realistically than in any of the Maddens. If a defender is moving one direction, he cannot instantaneously reverse direction to make a tackle.

If you are charging forward with a power running back, and defender tackles you from the side or behind, the momentum will carry you forward in ESPN NFL 2K5.

Madden 09 actually sets you up for "spectacular" tackles. Often, when a defender goes in his tackling animation, your running back will actually stop in place and let the defender knock him backwards. If you go into the instant replay you will see that the rb actually stops moving forward before the defender even hits him.

It is all in the details.

I guess if I were going to speak in general terms, I would say that when I am playing Madden, it feels like I am playing a video game; when I am playing ESPN NFL 2K5, it feels like I am playing football.
