Nascar is closer to being a sport than golf is IMO.X360PS3AMD05I agree cause i only stated that Nascar drivers are not athletes. The reason i ask this because a few yrs back on a ESPN radio show, this subject came up. And i agreed with the host. Golf is not a sport while Nascar driver doesnt make them athletes.
Both are sports. If they arn't then neither is basketball because anybody can go out and shoot a ball. Not everybody can drive a car at 200 mph without crashing or hit a golf ball accurately.Y2Jfan23then everbody cant shoot a ball accuratly. I mean u cant compare basketball, football etc. to golf
[QUOTE="starwarsjunky"]curling needs added to the list as wellPSP107what is it a bigger version of shuffleboard. on ice.
Sport - Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Golf takes physical and mental skill and technique to play. And if you walk the course, that takes a physical toll on you. Most courses average about 6400 - 6800 yards. By the late holes, fatigue is definately a factor. At the end of a hot day on a course, I know I feel tired. I am by no means a great golfer. I'm happy if I break 100. My best score was an 89. So when I watch what the pros (not just Tiger) are capable of doing and the scores that they can post on incredibly difficult courses, I'm always in awe. Is the fact that you don't run, make people think that golf isn't a sport?DJ_MagnetoSo im playing a sport if i can walk 6400-6800 yards? In the case if i walk the same distance to the next checker board, it then qualifies as a sport? Im sure alot of us in here can walk WAY LONGER and not realize we're playing a sport.

[QUOTE="IsItJustMe"]Just wondering, but you can walk almost four miles a day for four days straight? so is he saying golfers walking 6400-6800 is like walking 4 miles a day four days straight? No, he's not. But 6400 yards equals 3.63 miles and 6800 yards 3.86 miles. A professional golf tournament usually runs four days--Thursday through Sunday assuming the pro makes the cut. So, that's where almost four miles a day four four days straight comes from.[QUOTE="PSP107"] So im playing a sport if i can walk 6400-6800 yards? It's not, it's a leisurely activity, by definition it is but then that means playing darts, billiards, shuffleboard would be considered as well............X360PS3AMD05Playing basketball in your driveway can be considered a leisure activity, but that doesn't mean it isn't a sport. Pay attention to how the golf pros train and practice. They aren't relaxing. Drive 100 golf balls at a range and tell me you aren't physically tired afterward. Those guys can hit thousands of balls a day.

It is a sport, it's just not as physically demanding, though it requires a great amount of focus just like any other game. I do believe it gets over covered by ESPN though. I personally find the NHL far more interesting and intense than Golf, NASCAR, NCAA Basketball, or even the NBA, but all of those sports are covered far more. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why however. ESPN doesn't hold the rights to show live NHL games anymore. ESPN is just as much a business as it is a network and isn't very willing to cover the sport very extensively if they're only advertising for another network. Hopefully the NHL and ESPN will come to terms on a new agreement once Versus's deal is done. Many NHL fans feel the same as I do.
How are they any different than any other sport? Golf - Men competing to get a ball in a hole in as few shots as possible. Takes a lot of skill. Basketball - Men competing to get a ball through a hoop. Takes just as much skill Nascar - Men racing at incredibly high speeds, it's a competition involving skill. Like the two noted above. Football - Men competing to get a ball across a line They're all just games. None any less of a sport than any other. Golf and Nascar just happen to be two of the less popular ones, but just because you don't like them doesn't mean they are not a sport.w4rrior17Chess takes alot of skill but its not a sport? also i never said Nascar isnt a sport but pointed out that Nascar drivers aren't athletes during racers. Golfers aren't athletes either. i was find it funny/insulting that a Tiger Woods or Jeff Gordan can be considered athlete of the year.
