[QUOTE="Screw_Ball08"][QUOTE="LOEAnubis"] [QUOTE="duxup"]Maybe because the Redskins haven't won anything in a few years? I think even the worst of NFL pundits gave up a while ago as the Redskins would amass a pot luck of good free agent players and then underperform. They're just one of those teams that is going to have to establish itself a while before they get a ton of respect.LOEAnubis
This is a major part of it, but there is also the fact that they seem to be an up and down team. Last year they started 4-1, ended 9-7. The year before that they were 5-11. The year before that 10-6. Before that, 6-10. They are a very inconsistant team. So which team will show up this year?
And sure they play the NFC East tough, but that happens in every division. The Texans almost beat the Jags last week and the Colts yesterday... that same team, with starting QB Matt Schaub got crushed by the Steelers week 1. So out of division games tell alot about the team because interdivisional games don't always show how a team is going to perform as they tend to overperform agains their interdivisional rivals.
Well you must remeber they had some QB issues going on. Between Brunell and Campbell and Todd Colins. And throw in the conseritive style of Gibbs and yeah it made them inconsisitent. But I truly think this new bread of Skins is much better and much more agreesive and lethel.
Also people always want to talk bad about the Skins. Gibbs did get them in the playoofs 2 times in his 4 years. And they even won a playoof game one year. Look at a team like the Cowboys they have not even won a playoof game in like what 10 years or something?
That doesn't matter... QB issues, RB issues, WR issues... all of the good teams have fought through it. The Redskins are streakish and are not a consistant team.
You bring up the Cowboys... the Redskins may have a playoff win more recently, but the Cowboys are a more consistant team. Look at the last ten years side by side
Washington Redskins
1998 6-10 4th NFC East
1999 10-6 1st NFC East (Made Playoffs)
2000 8-8 3rd NFC East
2001 8-8 2nd NFC East
2002 7-9 3rd NFC East
2003 5-11 3rd NFC East
2004 6-10 4th NFC East
2005 10-6 2nd NFC East (Made Playoffs)
2006 5-11 4th NFC East
2007 9-7 3rd NFC East (Made Playoffs)
74 - 86 Overall Last 10 Years
Made Playoffs 3 Times
Won Division 1 Time
Dallas Cowboys
1998 10-6 1st NFC East (Made Playoffs)
1999 8-8 2nd NFC East (Made Playoffs)
2000 5-11 4th NFC East
2001 5-11 5th NFC East
2002 5-11 4th NFC East
2003 10-6 2nd NFC East (Made Playoffs)
2004 6-10 3nd NFC East
2005 9-7 3rd NFC East
2006 9-7 2nd NFC East (Made Playoffs)
2007 13-3 1st NFC East (Made Playoffs)
80 - 80 Overall Last 10 Years
Made Playoffs 5 Times
Won Division 2 Times
So while thier records may be similar, you can see that the Cowboys have done better overall. Sure, the Skins have two playoff wins, but look at who the Cowboys lost to.
1998 - Cardnials (The only so-so team on the list)
1999 - Vikings (Best record in football that year)
2003 - Panthers (Eventual NFC Champions)
2006 - Seahawks (Eventual NFC Champions)
2007 - Giants (Super Bowl Champions)
It's kind of a WASH if you ask me. They both have had some inconsistent seasons. And yeah Dallas make the playoofs 2 more time 5-3 but the Skins have a playoff victory so it's kind of a wash.
Also lets remeber Skins have Dan Snyder a rookie if owning a sports team so yeah the past 10 years have been a bit up and down. but I think now he's made his first good moves. With going with the draft and seemingley a great hire in zoren and not messing things up with the rest of the team. So things are looking on the up and up for the Skins. For the next 10 years it seems.
