There isn't a 4th major sport in America anymore.Its the NFL, MLB, NBA and thats it. Sure there is. It is hockey. Not as big as the others for sure, that's why it is 4th.

There's a solid contingent of hockey fans even here in the states, I'm not one of them, but I do follow what Sidney Crosby does. Just cuz I root for anyone born either near or on my birthday in sports(which includes Jeff Gordon and Roger Clemens) cuz I'm just odd like that.
NASCAR doesn't have anywhere near as wide an audience as people think. I recently was a part of a class project about Nascar. It's numbers have practically stagnated in the last few years, and it's actually startin to tread water. That, and the fact that it mostly is viewed by a very certain group of people kinda makes it stand off on its own. Just because it may bring in more money doesn't mean it's a bigger sport with a wider audience than another sport. Hockey is still relevant.

Baseball was 5th, this is from a sports illustrated book, Football and nascar are really close, with football ahead, and then NBA and NHL and Baseball are all real close, but baseball is the 5th. It probably changed within a year, but just telling you what I know.

Hockey isn't a major sport and it's going down (MLS will surpass it in importance). But still, sportscenter should show highlights from every sport.

I don't really think there is a top 4 any more I think it's the top five because baseball is still way more popular then Nascar. But Nascar is also very popular, so it's more of the top 5 now.
Sportscenter shows AFL and MLS highlights too and they aren't one of the "4 major sports".
But yea NHL shouldn't be considered a major sport, I mean look at the other sports shows like PTI, ATH, and Rome is Burning, they hardly EVER show hockey and they have new shows EVERY day. Also the sports reporters, they don't talk about hockey either and dont forget about cold pizza. I hardly see hockey on Cold Pizza either.
I like the hockey high lights and it is a major sport in americia. The major sports are MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL. Then there are some othere less popular leagues like the MLS and the Arena football League
Soccer has had a large jump since the USA started doing decent in the world cup and soccer fans are starting to come forth. MLS just got a deal with espn and it will only grow bigger.

NASCAR makes more money than every sport at football, and it seems that people are vastly underestimating it... seeings how I posted earlier that people overrate how expansive it's audience is, and then a bunch of people came in here and absolutely crapped on the idea that NASCAR is popular, I'll have to just re-iterate on that... Nascar popularity wise isn't as popular as its fans (especially the overly excited new fans, older fans don't care to brag about its growing popularity, vet. fans are content) would make you think, but it's nowhere near as unpopular either as some of you people act like. You're out of your mind if you think it's anywhere beyond the top 5 in overall popularity, like I said, it makes more money in merchandising and sponsorship deals and appearences and track cash than every sport save for football (but like I've kinda shown, money made doesn't directly correspond to popularity rating). It couldn't possibly make more money than every sport except football on southern white folks alone people, use your brains.
Of course Nascar makes fistfuls of money.. I mean, we all see what they smear all over their team members and cars. Whores. :P That list was a joke, c'mon now. Still, it's not 100% off base. You bring up a few good points in defense of Nascar, no doubt it is growing rapidly (though still largely limited to pockets of America, F1 remains the premier Motorsport for the rest of the world). But even after the big 4 I still don't think it's touching Golf, Tennis, Soccer and maybe a few more in terms of the sports people enjoy playing themselves or following professionally.
The popularity is based on where you live. In Philly, hockey has a pretty good following and I love hockey. Regardless of that, in no way is NASCAR more popular than baseball or as popular as ESPN likes to think. They just promote it more so than ever because they're obviously in contract with them and just want to promote their own product now that they are broadcasting the races. lmfao@nascar>baseball in popularity, that kind of statement almost warrants a fanboy comment.
