It happened 6 years ago and plus if you punish A-Rod, you might as well punish 75% of MLB while your at it. There were probably more players than imaginable taking something during that time period.

There was no punishment for his acts at the time they were committed. Though some might think being chastised by the commissioner and being accused of "shaming the game" is punishment enough.

Not really...I'm pretty sure everyone knows at this point that Bud Selig is a joke. Acting like he didn't have a clue anything was going on all this time and now, in 2009 (which is at least 20 years after the widespread use of steroids started in baseball), he says A-Rod "shamed the game"? Bud Selig shamed the game more than anyone else.

Also, lets not forget that he was apart of a MLB drug test in 2003. The MLB has known about this all along. Now they want to "throw players under the bus" and act as if their hands weren't dirty. Selig is a Hypocrite and A-Rod is a cheat.

Selig and Fuhr let this whole situation get wild and then tried to sweep it under the rug. All that matters to them is the fact that money is still being made. They know they had a chance to stop it, but they did nothing until it was to late.

I've come to the feeling (with all that has happened over the years), that I'm going to semi forgive those that come out. Which would include Bonds if he came out with the truth. Just have that feeling that I question - Who wasnt on some performance enhancements?! They say from all that have been caught in the past couple years, a good percentage were pitchers.

Is it really cheating when such a large number of people are doing it? Sounds like A-Rod was just fitting into the curve.

That particular test was supposed to be completely anonymous and without punishment. It was just a measuring stick to allow the MLB to evaluate the situation and come up with a plan of action. If they punish Rodriguez, they have to release the names and punish the other 100+ people that tested positive.

This is the correct answer.

My question is who leaked out the results to the media in what was supposed to be anonymous. And I do not like the fact that its one more thing Canseco was actually right about.

the fact that Selig made those stupid comment was just hilarious dude is trying to punish A-ROD while this man knew about what was going on in 03...so he would be basically punishing AROD for admiting his use of roids while the mlb union ditches arod.

That's why I said "some".

Some respect him and many don't. Those that still do are likely to think his heavy criticism was a form of punishment.

Hard to explain to everyone how the league can punish A-Rod while the other 103 players on the list still unnamed will go unpunished.

I'm too busy wondering who the other 103 names are............one guy on MLB made a good point, he said Red Sox fans shouldn't get on him too much because some of their players might be on that list and their 04 WS might be "tainted".

1.) Because of when it happened, about 6 years ago.

2.) If you are going to punish him then you have to punish the rest of the guys that were on that list that he was part of.

Really in my opinion who cares? The guy got caught its time to move on. What does it matter now if he gets punished, he is going to get scrutinized anyways from the public and anything that he accomplishes in his career will be in question and will be null and void by most.

I do agree with you that Red Sox fans should be careful what they say because who knows what else can come of that list, but I will not agree with the '04 WS could be tainted. I understand that Papi was a huge reason to that championship, but without the pitching they don't make it. If a couple of guys get smacked with postivie results from that year, you can't take a team achievement away because of a couple of individuals.

MLB chose to simply hide the fact in the first place. I don't think they want A-Rod firing back at them and making that more apparent than it already is.

They feel too guilty about the fact that they knew for years that all of their best players were injecting themselves with anything and everything they could get their hands on. Baseball is a running joke of a sport now because of Selig's "look the other way" mentality during the last decade or so. Really, the owners didn't care because all the records that have gotten shattered this last decade has revitalized fan interest and made them a butt load of cash.

it was legal at the time. i dont think we'll ever hear the end of the steroid era/controversy. it truly is a giant misfortune on the reputation of baseball.

A bit off topic but wasn't this survey test supposed to say whether or not they should give out drug tests frequently? And if more than 5% of players took steroids then they would begin doing these tests? So if it were under 5%, would it be OK to take steroids, since the league doesn't seem to care at all? It's completely asinine to not care if less than 5% took them. Just goes to show you how the MLB is looking out for the clean players. Even today the MLB is a disgrace to sports.

A-Rod's punishment is his legacy. Hopefully now, the majority of people understand that he lacks intelligence and is basically a follower not a leader. He goes and does what his handlers tell him too, why, not because he may question their judgement or have the sack to follow his own morals if any, but because he's just plain stupid. His explanation of his so called cousin putting a needle in his backside is only more proof of how much of a fool this guy is. However, the dude can rake, and nobody can deny that! Unfortunately, he has one thing right (beside being unbelievably talented at baseball), he will be answering his roid questions for the rest of his career and beyond.

Also, to answer the previous post on percentages etc.. dude, roids is becoming sort of a mainstay in the minors, not to mention all the imports, who knows how much horse pucky those dudes have taken coming up the ranks. Only solution I see is this. You pay a guy like ManRam millions upon millions, but it seems to me is would only cost a few millions a year to have a program in place that tests EVERY player in the major league system, mandatory testing for every player. Set up an independent corporation dedicated to just test pro baseball players, make sure they're all clean. Enough is enough!

Its quite simple to understand. You cant punish him for testing positive at a time when using steroids were not against the rules.

I think because when he tested it was supposed to be an anonomis test and list of players. I honestly could care less but that's just me!
