You can get penalized in both.you can get penalized for flopping in soccer right?
or is it hockey? im guessing now
BeanTownBrown86
Btw its not called flopping its called diving... And anyway this acting can be really important for your team, im not defending it I just see why they do it.
This is one of many reasons I'm not a fan of soccer. I tried to enjoy the last world cup final. Italy started dropping like flies once they had the lead and the game was ending. I was totally appalled. And I'm Italian.

Yeah i see what you mean TC. :P

I can't stand it, it takes away from enjoying watching how talented the Italians are.
doesn't matter what you think - football is a very tough sport, both mentally and physically. i was brought down once on the pitch (tackled across the shin) and it hurt like the end of the world. is diving and whining common in the sport? sure. as is the case with every sport.
bottom line - you don't know enough about what you're talking about.
I've played soccer since I was 7.... Grew up in Trinidad were soccer is law. I know quite well what I am talking about. Ha, you assume we haven't played soccer (football, whatever...). Physically it's not exactly easy, but it sure as hell isn't a tough sport. The point of this thread though (at least I think) is that diving is pathetic and it happens multiple times in every single game.as shameful as that is.. it's not as bad as basketball. Whats the difference between a very good player and a great player in the NBA? acting classes. Like Kobe, how he yells before he shoots the ball, just to draw attention to himself, sometimes they just blow the whistle, they (the refs) don't even know why yet, they just hear him and say oh, it must have been a foul! Pisses me off every time Paul Peirce yells and just throws the ball away too, sometimes he gets a foul, sometimes he doesn't, he just does it hoping for one. fastrBasketball is another sport I would consider soft. IMO if you're holding the ball/puck/whatever. I should be able to lay your ass the you know what out.

But he played football when he was young too, so i think he would know something about it. His claim seems pretty valid to me.listen i am a mixed martial artist, i just broke my arm and didnt go to the hospital. my arm is crooked now and im starting training again already...with my arm still broken.soccer players are weak and cry and act like theres no tomorrow. they get touched and fall, they whine and go down easy. you talk about getting kicked in the shin, dude i get kicked in the face every day by blackbelts and your telling me that it hurts when a guy kicks your shin....come on.
i dont think you know what a tough athelete really is, soccer is in no way a tough sport. ive had my shoulder dislocate during training and just popped it back in and continued my training. if a soccer player dislocates his arm he would be going into fits crying and flailing about like he was dying. waiting for a doctor to come and kiss it and make it better lol.
i had a staph infection on my testicles(dont report me for saying that please), and i could literally see into my body from the hole that formed.i trained all the way through and it took me five months to recover from it.

good for you, artist. speaking of MMA, ain't that the sport where people pay to watch over-sized men ass-humping each other?
see? it's easy to talk crap about things you're not familiar with. do i care about how badly you're messed up? nope. because this is a football discussion and since you obviously don't know much about football we have nothing to talk about.

What other sport can you fight, and not get kicked out? all they do is sit you next to each other with a piece of glass between you. Basketball is a soft sport, I agree with you. The worst tho is baseball. They get a hang nail and they're on the DL for a month. I've seen football players wearing casks with broken arms playing, baseball player gets a sore finger.. ohhh he can't play like that!

What are your other experiences of football except being hurt once?once? where did you get that? i lost count and i wasn't even good enough to draw too much heat from the defenders. in any match, a player can expect to be pushed, pulled, spat, elbowed or kicked for a dozen times. I'm not even including the fatigue. things can only get MUCH worse in professional games, where injuries often take you out for months at a stretch and if you're unlucky or not rich enough to have a good doctor you may have to kiss the pitch goodbye.
honestly, i don't think i even need to explain any of these if you watch and/or play the sport seriously.
buddy i played soccer for five years during my school years thats why i replyed in the first place.
this guy seems to be a bit edgy about defending soccer... hes making fun of mma as a sport yet chooses not to see when hooligan fans throw moltov cocktails at the refs face at a soccer game. yea soccer is a real sport and mma isnt.
thats why the fans are murderous loons who destroy citys when their team loses. i stand corrected.

Name names please, I want teams. No proof so far that YOU actually know what your talking about. Infact Id say the general approach of your answers has been to say: your wrong, I'm right.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lz8kQ5bNUQA
Check this out from a few years back. Yes, the fan shouldn't have been on the pitch and the Celtic fans disgraced themselves, not as much as Dida did though!
Anyway, I think this will continue until video referees are brought into the game and clearer punishments are given for diving.

Freak accidents from bad tackles. Exception to the rule.... It may not be a soft sport, but the players disgrace the sport, its fans, and make it pretty damn close to a soft sport. If you think football is a soft game so watch this video from Arsenal games

football (soccer) is not a soft sport. although, you can't compare it to some other contact sports. you're always going to lose an argument against the sport though, because it is and always will be the world's most popular sport, despite it's often unsportsmanlike nature.
for those whinging about how physical football is, i would recommend spending 10 minutes on the field of a ball sport like rugby league or australian rules football. you won't find more physically demanding games.
Football hits are much harder than rugby hits, because of the pads. Many rugby players have said this, and sports science the tv show on espn proved it. 90% of hits in rugby are nothing.football (soccer) is not a soft sport. although, you can't compare it to some other contact sports. you're always going to lose an argument against the sport though, because it is and always will be the world's most popular sport, despite it's often unsportsmanlike nature.

that may be so, but i wasn't necessarily referring to just the impact of a few hits. a rugby league forward will have to endure these hits 40-50 times in one game on average. plus the fact that they are constantly running back and forth and have to chase a player half the field every now and then. i was more implying that rugby league is a physically demanding game, not just that the hits are heavy.
I wouldn't say the sport itself is soft...you try going on and playing with a bunch of Hispanics or Blacks, your gonna get banged around no doubt. Same with basketball, but the sports will always have players that tried to bend rules and get calls their way aka acting soft.

I didnt watch it but Im guessing its Eduardo. Man that was really bad. I think Fabregas puked cus his bone popped out of his shin pad or you could see a lump where it snapped it two places. I remmeber one of my fave players Djibril Cisse breaking his leg about 3 times.

1. This is about REAL football, where you actually use your feet, you know, soccer?
2. Of course American footballs hits are 90% of the time harder, there are barely any rules to tackling apart from stopping that sob'. Plus your wearing pads which means you have to supply more energy for the same effect to have on said player. Dump tackles in rugby, without any protection except the shirt on your backs cant be sniffed at either.

Just to add to this discussion. Football/soccer is not a soft sport. It is not a "hard" sport by any means. But it's not soft. Some of the players like the ones that dive are soft yes, but the sport as a whole is not. People can get knocked around a fair bit in a regualr game.
Don't base an opinion on a "highlights reel" of the worst examples of football, let alone anything.
