Yes, Y.E Yang came out of no where this week to knock off Tiger Woods, and win his 1st ever major, second career tour win. The fourth round had everything, including a eagle by Yang at the 14th holeto put him up for good, and another collapse by Padraig Harrington with a 8 at the par 3, 8th hole. Woods had been 14-0 when leading after 3 rounds in a major, but loses this major after leading since the middle of the first round. Thoughts on this remarkable win, or anything else from this major?

EDIT: Darn, JaysonGuy beat me to it. Darn Gamespot glitch. Guess you can lock the thread.

Woods could not putt plain and simple. Tiger's putter cost him this major as shooting a +3 on the final day is not good enough.

Yeah he missed a few easy ones be he also didn't make any of those signiture 15 to 20 footers (or longer) that he tends to do in majors. But like I said in the other thread he didn't win a major in 2003 or 2004, so this year isn't a big deal imo. He certainly hasn't lost it as he's still #1 on the money list (by over $2.5M), and has won 5 tournments so far this list. I also think he's got a good chance next year as the U.S. Open is at Pebble Beach (where he had a 15 stroke win in the 2000 U.S. Open), and St Andrews (he won there in both 2000 and 2005 the last 2 years it was held at St. Andrews)

Agreed. He was playing laid back, and a lot of the time he wasn't aiming at the cup, he aimed middle of a green thinking his putter could save him like all week, and that pars would be good enough to win. He was also thinking when Harrington went out of contention, he would win. He even said after, if he shot -1 he would win. He didn't play aggressive when he didn't to, and when he tried (17th hole) he over shoots it. It also doesn't help that Yang was making all the shots he needed to and more, like the eagle, and the 2nd shot at 18. Those shots won him the championship imo. He probably had the mind set that he's held off Tiger before, he could do it again and wasn't intimidated by him, like most are, even though this is a major.

Yea, I was too. I think everybody that was leading a major into Sunday, lost. Tiger, Kenny Perry, Tom Watson, and Ricky Barnes all lost. I was mad when Woods, Watson and Perry lost, but didn't care that Barns didn't win, I wanted to see Phil win. When he didn't, then I was pissed. So, 3 guys this year won thier first ever major, and Glover and Yang both got only their second career PGA victory. I think there were a lot of great stories in golf this year, Yang's being the biggest because it actually happened. The three other major winners will be known for stopping great stories that never came to be, like Cink with Watson or Glover with Phil. I think that that's what people will remember this year for, more for the almost winners, than the winners (besides Yang), IMO.

This really sucked, but Tiger can't win em all,I am sure he will be a force next year and get some more majors under his belt, like he needs them, lol.

Yang played well and put the pressure on Woods and kept him fumbling on the greens.

I don't read too much into this loss by Tiger. He still came in at -5 despite his poor Sunday. Look at Paddy Harrington's collapse two weeks in a row. And where were the other big names? Majors are hard to win. They're supposed to be. We just take Tiger for granted because he wins so often. I was very disappointed in Tiger's loss, but think about Jack's career. He had a couple of three year gaps with no majors. And before winning his last (PGA Championship) in 1986 at age 46, he had won both the British and PGA Championship in 1980. He had 73 career wins. Tiger is 33 and has 70. He has a lot of winning yet to do.
