I haven't played Fallout 3 although I might like it since I loved Oblivion. I am a little less hyped about it than I was before though after hearing stuff about Fallout 3 that "it's just Oblivion with guns" and "it's a vast-open world of rubble and wasteland to roam about" and the "inconsistencies with the real-time shooting" are kind of letdowners. One of the main things that got me really "immersed" into the Morrowind and Oblivion were it's vast, rich, green worlds. And roaming around a wasteland isn't my kind of exploration. Â
Don't get me wrong I am still very much excited about Fallout 3 and will definitely get it in the near future.Â
I just put my review of Fallout 3 up yesterday. If you are a RPG fan it's definitely worth playing. The game does feel empty. I'm not talking about the NPC population and the Wastelands outside of downtown DC because that alone makes the game immersive. But what I dislike is the fact that there are no factions, or guilds to join of any kind. Also with that amount of space in the game, you would assume there would be more quest to do(I have two more quest achievements which I'll do on a evil character). You can still clock in 50+ hours of gameplay, but the shear amout of content in the stand-alone version of Oblivion has far more then Fallout 3. Plus without the other quests the main storyline seems a bit weak.
That's why I recommend the PC version for mods as well as the Xbox 360 version for the DLC. Once you clock in a lot of time with Fallout 3 there are moments where you are wandering around trying to find something to do. In Oblivion you definitely encounter more NPCs offering quest, and all these little situations in between. But it's really not like that in Fallout 3 once you have completed a good number of quest. I really hope Bethesda throws out some expansions.
