...to play Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions. My brother has had the game since Febuary and has only played it twice and I would like to maybe give it a try once I have finished my re-play of FFIX. But first, I will give you some background info!

I have not played many Tactical RPGs. The first Disgaea game pretty much put me off of them as I found it VERY difficult, not to mention that you had to level up your characters AND weapons. That really put me off as I wanted to get on with the story and not have to level up people for DAYS. Despite this, I really enjoyed Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced (And I'm probably one of the only people around here who did!). I do not mind some leveling up, but not so much that it will take me days to get anywhere.

So, can you help me decide whether to give it a go for not? ^^

Yeah, it's a great game with lots of characters that you just get hooked on. The gameplay is also great and addictive too, as you'll find yourself immersed in the world. The story is really great, and keeps you going on it. Lol I remember playing it on the PS1, I still have it on the PS1 and I played it every day all day sometimes for a few summers straight. It's a great game and deserves to be added to anyone's collection. You also get secret characters like Cloud from FFVII and I don't remember who else.

Firstly, Disgaea and Tactics may essentially belong to the same genre that is-Tactical RPG but there are a couple of fundamental differences in their gameplay concepts underneath which make them two completely different games altogether.

Considering you're a big-time JRPG fan which I know you are, and always love good stories and characters, then Tactics will provide you with a more than good story. In fact one of the best on PSOne. And that's saying a lot. Tactics has such a complex,intricately-woven plot, whose influence can be found in couple of other Ivalice games as well like Vagrant Story and FFXII. Tactics story reminds me of a Shakespherean esque RPG story. It contains similar elements as seen in FFXII,Vagrant Story like war amongst various factions, collapse of governments, betrayal etc. But,it's much better than FFXII's plot,IMO.

The only game that IMO,replicates Tactics gameplay really well is Tactics Advance. I was one of the few who liked the game as well, but the only place where the Tactics Advance faltered for me was it's poor storyline and weak characters. Since you actually it's gameplay,so I guess you won't have much problem getting into Tactics.

If you're looking for extras,War of the Lions has pretty good voice acting as well as secret characters like Cloud and Balthier which can be unlocked during the game.

Tactics has an awesome plot, arguably the best in the series. It's extremely politically and religously driven, and has a great cast of characters(Delita is one of the coolest characters in any FF).

The gameplay is awesome once you get the hang of it. At first, the game's going to be tough because they just sorta throw you to the wolves, but don't let it discourage you. Leveling is the answer for everything. Anyway, I found myself completely addicted. I would blow off homework and sometimes friends(but that was rare) just to play one... more... battle.

Anyway, if you want to start off with an easier S-RPG with good gameplay, I'd reccomend Tactics Advance 2, then move on to this. You don't have to, because once you get the hang of things, it's easy enough. If you're having trouble, just go fight some random battles, level up a bit and learn new abilities. You can also mix and match abilities to have your black mage equip heavy armor or equip swords, or use some Monk abilities.

Just make sure to keep 2 save files. Sometimes it'll ask you "Would you like to save?" before a series of battles. If you only have one save and you get stuck, you're screwed, though the only time you need to worry about this is the fight against Belias(hardest non-optional boss hands down).

im not a huge srpg fan but i did enjoy the game i really need to get around to finishing it though. The one problem i have with it is the battles are to slow but im the kind of person who always turns battle speed to full and goes to and active atb in games i just cant stand the waiting between turns.

The amount of leveling you have to do in FFT is about one fifth of what you have to do in Disgaea. FFT's ratio of time spent preparing to the flow of the story line is very balanced. The increase in difficulty is paced very well.

FFT WotL has tons of added content mainly new jobs, beatiful cel-shaded cutscenes with great voice-acting, new unlockable characters and polished dialogue it's a great port of an already great game.

I may be late, but let me express my love for Final Fantasy Tactics. :P It's my most favorite FF game (although, now, i consider it to be in its own sub-series), next to Final Fantasy VII.

What's great with it?

1. THE story... characters...
2. THE gameplay... characters... job system... charge time for executing skills...
3. audio... background music... WotL has voice-acting!
4. video... already outdated, but i still like its art design... WotL has a lot of cel-shade FMVs
5. It is FAR better than FFTA and FFTA2.

Btw, I would have preferred a sub-title, "The Zodiac Brave Story", than "War of the Lions", but, anyway, it is still FFT. ^__^

Way way far better, don't get me wrong I liked FFTA but the original FFT was on a whole different level, and WotL is an upgraded version of an already incredible game.

1.disgaea is meant for the HARDEST of hardcore gamers.

2. i've played it (FFT:WOTL) and it's very fun! the first two or three missions weren't all that fun but the game picks up very quickly! my ONLY true complaint is how incredibly long it takes to learn skills (compared to FFTA1&2)

3. if you don't already have it and you have a DS just go with FFTA2, it's long (longer than WOTL I believe) nowhere nere as hard as the others (to get stuff mostly) really the only bad thing is the main story, which is poorly thought up.

Definately play the original. WOTL was a pile of crap. Lets add useless junk, rename everything, add slowdown and throw in the most annoying old english dialogue we can come up with! Hell even if you have to have it on the go just emu the original on your PSP. IF you play WOTL dont let any of the above cloud your judgement of an otherwise perfect game.

lolz I agree about the slowdowns and the **** new translation... They did not even consider the veteran fans of the original version!

Few months ago, my friend is asking me questions about Ramza's skills knowing the I am quite knowledgeable of FFT only to find out that we cannot understand each other (we're talking via yahoo messenger)... I specifically remember tlaking about Ramza's "Guts" skill and he don't know what i am talking about... Also... Orlandu became Orlandeu... WTH is that???

Anyway, aside from that, as what i've said, it is still FFt with some modifications and additions. For those new to the game, they may safely play WotL, but for the vets... You may need some time to get used to it... like me. The slowdown is killing me! :?

I didn't have a problem with the new translation, and I put in over 1000 hours in the original.

Well Freya, I recently asked the same question on another board. Most of the anwsers I got were to play it, even if you played the original. I haven't gotten it myself yet, but my brother has it and he says it's good. So I'd suggest you play it and see for youself, I mean everyone's gonna have an opinion, but IMO, if it's anything like the original, it's good.

Fantasy_Gamer nailed it on the head. If you played the original the new version is just annoying. If you haven't you wont know what your missing so to speak. Me and my cousins played the hell out of FFT when it was new and we all still play it whenever the mood strikes. They came to me with this new one laughing at how much they screwed it up and the slow-down etc. etc. I have to say by the time I started playing it I was laughing while at the same time wanting to cry.. Nothing they changed was for the better. As far as the slow-down not being a big deal its probably like anything else when you have to deal with it you get more and more used to it. I didnt have to and it was significant to me. Theres very, very few games I absolutely hate but a remake of a great game that just screws with it for the worse is very easy to hate.
