I disagree. I enjoy the older ones more even tho the graphics arent as top notch.  For some reason 7 and 9 have more end game replayability whereas i like to go all the way thru 8 from time to time. But then again i dont mind graphics.....but i must say 11 is very addicting.

Sad that is, cause the older FF are the best.  FF12 will be good too but if you can't stand to playthe older ones then you can't really call yourself a true fan.

Indeed, Kingdom. I mean, I'm probably the most excited person on this forum for Final Fantasy XII, and still I find myself playing Final Fantasy IV (which I'm playing as I type this, back and forth), Final Fantasy VIII, and the most recent, Final Fantasy X. So, it is glad to have a nice breath of fresh air such as XII and it's new and innovative battle system. But you just can't beat the classics, and that's pretty much nearly every old Final Fantasy. The true classics, in my eyes anyways, are the SNES era games (Final Fantasy IV - VI).

I'm playing FF1 and FF2 when I have time too, but other then that I haven't had time due to lots of work from college, and playing Grandia 3, but I still play the old ones too.

Kingdom is soooo right, if you can't enjoy the old FF games you can't cal yourself a fan.

It's the old games that holds the true FF feeling.

That would be kind of hard, also it depends how far back and how far forward you are talking about. Are we going from Final Fantasy I to XII or from VII to X-2?

To the original poster I believe its all a question of taste. Everybody has a different installment they enjoy more than the others, each new installments doesnt necessarilly get better, although it does always meet a hallmark of excellence that has made each new entry into the series such a thrill to play. Each new game has done something in someway that has made it stand out to the fans and for that reasons only as our memory dulls can we say that the new ones get better, because the bar gets progressively higher (at least in terms of graphics and sound, because a great story is timeless).

I like all the final fantasy's and instead of getting kh2 im gonna get origins and choronicles. My favourite ones out of them all are final fantasy VII- no game in the world can come even close to this ones story line. Final fantasy VIII- romance story. Final Fantasy IX- just fun to play. And the rest are really fun but those are my favourite. Matered every ff and im still playin them :)

The older FF games won't be boring, I promise (not really... I don't like keeping promises.) But they are fun nonetheless, you should go for it... Play IX, though, it might be the best if you're used to the newer ones now...

I love to go back and play the old FF I wish my FF7 would work because I would be playing it right now and I have them all and I like that one the most even more than the PS2 ones. I guess its just really your opinion though.

it definitely is a metter of opinion, for me the storyline and character develpoment are the reasons i play the series.  the older ones are some of my favorites, VII being the best (in my opinion), followed by VI, and then IV.  X was also a solid game though and im looking forward to XII.  My personal opinion about XI is that they should have called it FF online rather than put a number on it.  It is not really on the same track as the numbered games...sorry i went on a tangent there

well ff 11 sort of is a number game since ff 12 is going to be like it battle wise so ff 11 is the base to ff 12. It is also called final fantasy 11 online.

The thing I liked about the older games was the cool card game. FFX made blitzball which was good but I would of prefereed the simplicity of the card game.

Nope, they don't

Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI were better than Final Fantasy VII and VIII.

Final Fantasy X was better than Final Fantasy X-2

Final Fantasy VII was better than Final Fantasy VIII

Final Fantasy IX was better than any other Final Fantasy

NOTE: These are just my opinions :P

I don't think they got lame storywise after IX since there are only two FFs after based on the same one story. And I'm not counting XI.

What people dont seem to realize is when we're talking about story its all a matter of opinion as to whether one is better than the other because they are all good.

Do the new ones keep getting better? From a technical standpoint there is no doubt about it, graphically, soundwise the series is forever increasing the standards by which we judge all other RPGs so there is no arguing that Final Fantasy VI was better than V, VII was better than VI, VIII was better than VII and so forth and so on, but only when we look at it from a relative perspective in terms of whats available in terms of presentation and sound. When people say "Oh, but the story back in the day..." or "The system in Final Fantasy..." these arent standards these are preferences and opinions, which are NOT universal.

Although obviously with the advance of technology the ability to present story's in a more involving manner means that some newer ones may be better in every way (one of the reasons Final Fantasy VII got the praise it did).

Yeah, the FFVII game sure was a notch above all the others in graphics and gameplay, then when 8 came out it got even better, and so on.  I'm just saying they could have done something better with the CC game for the Gamecube cause it still looked good and prolly played ok too, but the sotry wasn't very entrancing and even the gameplay was a little on the bad side with that bucket you had to have with you at all times out in the world.
