As you know, Square-Enix has (over the last few years) been releasing a lot of new games and as you saw from E3, Fans went Wild after hearing about all the new games that Square-Enix are going to be releasing soon.
I was wondering, from your own opinions, do you think Square-Enix Titles are getting better Storylines?

Please Explain your answers in as Full as you can.

Thanx.

well in my opinion the storylines have been inconsistent ever since FF7.First there was FF7 and it was amazing, then there was FF8 whitch was good but not great (still a good game).  Then FF9 witch was OK (personally my least favorite).  then FFX came out and it too was amazing (not as amazing as FF7 but still amazing).  FFAC came out and it was great (not amazing though). So yeah they have been pretty inconsistent but what I noticed is none of them have been bad per say. Well lets hope square keeps up the good work with FFXII.

So basiclly I think overall the storylines have stayed pretty much the same

I think they're going up and down. I loved 8s story, I hated 9s, I loved 10s, and well, there was no story for 11.

It all depend on what you like. I think 7 and 9 are the best then 8 then 10 then 10-2 and finally 11. But with you you dont like 9 so everyone is going to like one title and not like another.

pooer. i remember when i would miss school for a square game. and it was all worth it. the ff series, tales of maia, brave fencer musashi, even enix's star ocean which had a lot of time. the probelm here is that the last 2 people have hated on was ff x-2 because of how obviously terrible it was and the next ff was an online mmorpg. many don't get into that and refuse to pay a monthly fee. square eniz is going to come strong. i thinks that why they pressed so hard for ff 12 and 3 different types of ff 13.

This is how I rate it:

FF 10 &10-2 : Amazing graphics but too much focus in love between Yuna and Tidus (Too little focus on other char)

FF 9             : Worst because they focus less on this game(Bad grahic and boring stroyline)

FF 8             :  Better graphic and 3D (Too much love story and new look for some GF)

FF 7              : Storyline is distribute evenly (Biggest Change in FF games)

I like FF 8 & 7 story better then FF 10 but gameplay for FF 10 is better then others and FF 9 the worst FF game I ever played. I'm looking forward to play FF 12.

Well, the storylines have been doing the same patterns over the years. You can't come up with a winner all the time, especially not an amazing winner. But I think that all of the stories have been better than decent, so I'm not going to complain.

Well from my own opinion, i think that they created 3 Final Fantasy XIII's because this is a way to catch the fans at the time. It is a Great Business Strategy that i totally Understand and this will increase Square-Enix Sales as Final Fantasy XII (X3) will Sell fast and big. I do know this, im not just guessing. I am going  from how the game looks and from the reactions from the Fans. There are 2 element to look at before the gameplay because at the moment, we dont REALLY know how it playes, not really.

Infinitely poorer. First, let's examine the Final Fantasy series. We can ignore the first 3 FFs because the story is not that important ( at least until the remake of 3). Now for FF IV-VI. FFIV was fantastic in terms of story with what was capable at the time of its release. Unique plot, plot twists, and the start of the development of the cast in a significant way. FFV, solid but not an improvement over IV. FFVI, the pinnacle game of the SNES days of Final Fantasy. The story had it all: twists, turns, immense character development, an emotional plot, and the coolest dog in video game history. On to the PS era. FFVII, most people seem to praise this game for being the best in the series, I do not agree, but the plot was fantastic and only marred but a couple very slight inconsistencies and lacking in certain character development. FFVIII, good plot and very nice to see a love story become a central figure, but did not live up to VII in terms of characters (Seifer is the man though) or overall plot. FFIX, the love it or hate it game. Great tribute to the series as a whole, but the plot was lacking. Throughout the PS Era of FF, Square (at the time) was starting to abuse cliches and become predictable. PS2 time. Final Fantasy X and X-2: absolute garbage of a plot and game, I'm actually suurprised by how many people enjoy it here. Plot was cliche'd and predictable, character development was subpar, and the characters were not written properly, everything felt forced. So in terms of Final Fantasy plot, it peaked at VI and has deteriorated ever since. Now for non Final Fantasy games. Star Ocean:TTEOT was a decent plot, slightly cliche'd and character development was iffy at best. Did not live up to SO2. Grandia III: there was such high hopes for this game. No matter how decent the gameplay might have been, it could not save this game from an absolutely horrendous plot that made it difficult to force oneself through the game. I can't really comment on the recent Dragon Quest as of late because I am not entirely through it yet, but it seems on par with the other games, if not a little bit superior. And rather than go through the list of things like Drakengard and all the other miniscule series, I'll hop to the worst thing that Squeenix has done in a long time: Radiata Stories. Quite possibly, the most awful game ever created in the modern era. Other than the gameplay system being monotonous and boring, I'll focus on its disgrace of a plot. And I do know it was not meant to be taken seriously and was supposed to be a lighthearted RPG, but this was just not playable. I forced myself though both storylines because of the completionist in me, and because I pre-ordered this game thinking it was going to be great from the hype. The Plot failed to deliver in anyway, and was not commical despite its best efforts. Someday I will write my full rage-induced review of that junk for a game. In conclusion, Squeenix has fallen prey to the graphical debacle. Suince they are visually one of the best companies out there, their focus deviates from telling a truly good story. In the days past, story is what moved the RPG along, not the poly count. Square has fallen into a rut with their stories. They are cliche, and as time moves on, their ability to develop new and unique characters has waned. They can only depend on nostalgia for so long before people realize their games just do not live up to their past ones. This became longer than I expected so I'll end it, but I might write a more indepth sequel post later.

I really don't think I can add much to that, I totally agree. I thought Square could use the new gaming era of the PS2 to it's advantage but apart from Dragon Quest VIII, (which Square hardly had a hand in) and to some extent Star Ocean: TTEOT and Kingdom Hearts, (please don't let the sequel ruin this) I think Square's storytelling capabilities have become complete garbage. Now I'm not saying that this is all down to Sakaguchi's departure but I think that it has a very major hand in it. Square seem to have gone for the all flash no substance look and I think that this has been plain to see in the PS2 entries. FFX had a cliched story as Gorman said, don't get me started on FFX-2, just absolute crap and FFXI had practically no story at all. Can you see where it's all gone wrong? Because I can, Sakaguchi's departure. Personally, I think VI is the pinnacle of Square's storytelling but I can in no way say that VII, VIII and IX's stories were bad. I can however, say that for the PS2 entries however and I'm just praying that FFXII's story is back to the great storytelling we know Square for.

Personally, I think Square is running out of ideas....

I loved VII's story, it was original and complexed. Sephiroth, at that time, was the most original villian FF had ever seen and probably the enitre RPG genre as well. Cloud's character was brilliant and the mystery behind his existence throughout the game was a tremendously engaging story that has left Cloud as the second best character in the entire FF series next to Celes, in my opinion. FFVIII was not as original as VII by any means, but thats partially because many of the ideas behind the world's structure and the personallity of the characters were already presented by FFVII. Then came FFIX, and no matter how good that game is, I truly believe that this is when Square started to lose its creativity. The world, the characters and the entire feel of the game was FFs I-V and some of the story elements from the game ***FF9 Spoilers!*** , such as Zidane's cloning and Vivi's search for the meaing of existence were very comparible to ***FF7 and FF6 Spoilers!*** Cloud's clone storyline and Celes/Terra 's storylines from FF6.

Then came FFX, which to me was a story that was plain and simply over thought-out and presented by Square. While it certainly had its moments of creativity, the game just felt like playing Crono Cross to me at the start and from there just turned into a cluster****. FFXI basically had no story and to say that FF Crystal Chronicles had a story would be an absolute joke!

Now look at Square. Creativity has been thrown out the window for bringing back the past. FF7:AC, FF7: DOC, FF7:CC, FFX-2 and now FFXII, a game that I am really hyped about, is bringing back the world of Ivalice found in FFTactics and FFTacticsADV. I have yet to spoil any of FFXII's story, mostly because I love the look of it thus far, so I don't know if Square is going to take off with any cliches in that game or not, but I unfortunately suspect they will....

So yeah, thats just my opinion. I know I didn't include anything on FFs I-VI, buts that just because those games were all pretty much original for their time and other than FFV's character's feeling more like Power Rangers than Adventurers (seriously, just play the game) I loved everything about those game's stories....

The story lines have gone so far down hill its unbelievable and a big part of that has to do with SE taking out the violence in the games.  I realize from a business point of view its better to release a game that pretty much every one can buy including kids but in SE lowering the violence to increase sales it has greatly affected the types of stories that SE can come up with for an ff game.  The last time I saw blood in an ff game was back on FF7 and FF6 had much more violence than any of the other ff games I've played.

I dunno it's random... I loved VII, and VIII was ok... I really enjoyed IX but I thought X was terrible story wise. I'm still looking forward to XII and XIII however.
