DQ is a totally 2D game trying to be 3D and in what way is it going to be bigger than Final Fantasy?!

FF always consists of the best game technologies, innovations, the best stories ever, and great music.

DQ is so large in Japan everyone is crazy over it. Can anyone even convince me that DQ IS better than Final Fantasy?

DQ is a very traditional RPG, whether or not thats why Japan likes it more I don't know. I myself, loved DQVIII. It didn't try to have some huge complicated story or battle system, it kept it simple and it totally oozed in charm. It also had a huge world for you to explore, brilliant characters with excellent voice acting to match.

YES i totally agree with you there, DQVIII is one of my top 3 fave games ever. i don't really know how to explain it, but i think you got it spot on when you said it "oozed in charm" :D. there isn't anything about it i don't like.

I'm glad that people liked DQVIII but I personally hated it. There wasn't anything that I found charming about it *blushes*

I found the voiceacting and scripting to be really annoying, and I wasn't a fan of the music. The storyline also caught me as being a bit too bland. Coupling that with a steep learning curve with the battle system (enemies growing stronger very quickly) made the game too annoying for me to continue playing.

I can understand why people would enjoy it though....

You took the words from my mouth.

Worldwide, Final Fantasy is the more popular of the two franchises, but in Japan, nothing comes close to Dragon Quest's popularity.

As others have said, it's popular in Japan and that is about it.

It just caught on too late over here in the states I think. DQVIII was the first one I really heard of to actually make decent sales, I'd seen the other ones online and such, but never in stores.

*gasps* wow.. you really must be a DQ fan...! I don't think I could have anything on my list of priorities above the new FF titles... though the KH titles do come awfully close.

I typically agree with you, but seriously, BLASPHEMY. Yeah, Dragon Quest VIII maintained the traditional style, but i still found it to be one of the better JRPG's to be released on the PS2.

No. I just know Nomura wqill screw this game up. Everything he does is severely disappointing. DQIX, on the other hand, looks quite good. Everything we have seen from FFXIII is cliche. Snooze

DQ is just a rock solidexperience. you know what you are getting the second you put the CD in your PS. It is predictable and follows the DQ formula, but it is still good.

lol i agree with you too. it seems like DQ doesnt really change all that much as in battle system as much as final fantasy. so you kind of know what you are getting into for DQ but not so much FF. Thats just my way of looking at it. but still DQ8 was a fun game i must say dont know what it was but i liked it.

I'm not a slime fan. :P

On a side note, iirc, when I was around 5-7 years old, there is this Dragon Quest anime (or is it of a different title? i can't remember much... but i think it is DQ).

i think you're talking about Dragon Warrior and a series of other anime with Dragon Quest in the title.

Yes, such animes existed. And most of them are based on the content of the original games.

ahh~ i get it, maybe that's why DQ is so popular in Japan, it's been adapted for Anime! *revelation*

HEY!!! Nothing beats Chobi in there!!

I wouldn't say FF:U got a very good headstart, but by the end everything pieced together, the ending was quite spectacular :P
