Good review. The DS is really putting a hurting on my wallet this year.

LOL, I know what you mean.. I used to have only a few DS games, not anymore!.. I'm on Chapter 2 and I have to say that the dialog translations are hysterical... I sometimes have to read them twice to make sure I understand what they're trying to say... :D
is it really good? I never played any DQ games before... *blushes*
do you think someone who wasn't as familiar with the series would be able to pick it up and get into it easily?

It really depends on what you expect out of your games. It's not as story driven as the Final Fantasy franchise, itstead it has a real old school style, in both gameplay and story.
It's pretty easy to get into though, Dragon Quest VIII was one of my favorite PS2 games.
i may have to get into that (oh wait all the other games i'm supposed to be playing/finishing...oh well what is another one to distract me from my studies?)
