FF XIII & FF VIII

Is it just me, or do you get faint memories of FFVIII whenever you watch the FFXIII trailer? The highway Lighting "fell" into reminds me so much of the walkways in Esthar, and when the blonde guy pulls up on his bike it reminds me so much of Balamb Garden. Ha the game even has that whole sci-fi feel to it.

Not near as much as FFXIII's case, but I am also reminded of FFVII when watching FFVXIII, I guess because of his spikey hair and huge sword. Not only that but if you've seen the jump trailer the music reminds me of the battle music in FFVII, especially right when engaging in combat.

Either way am I the only one who sees these similarities?

The only thing that i can even relate to FFVIII is indeed the Gunblade, and the Gunblade alone. Everything else reminds me of FFVII instead... :roll: And especially.... Dirge of Cerberus :? Could be the music, got the same composer for DoC.kinetic-core

Really, Final Fantasy VII? That game has both modern, and traditional structures. Even within Midgar on the upper plate the residential districts look like townhouses in New York City. I would agree that Final Fantasy XIII has similar architecture that's found in Final Fantasy VIII but also in Final Fantasy X. But it has more in common with 8 for sure.

I hope FFXIII is more like FFVIII and it's predecessors than FFXII as far as the plot and characters goes. While SE did experiment with the battle system successfully I wasn't pleased with FFXII's political-centric plot. It made it feel less of a FF which are always more character-centric and made FFXII feel more like a Ivalice game (which it was). There are bound to be similarities like that. I think FFXIII's setting resembles FFVIII's setting while many of it's characters are obviously inspired from FFVII.

It's never ever bad when a game developer searches for inspiration in it's past accomplishments.
