Take any Final Fantasy Character, from any game in the series, and place that character in another Final Fantasy. Say why you would do it and explain how that character would effect his/her new game. For example, how would he or she change the plot? Plot twists? The development of other characters? Also, would you remove a character from another Final Fantasy to insert he/she into the game?

Example:

Personally, I would remove Quina from Final Fantasy IX and insert Red from FFVII. Why? Because Red is an audity, certainly, just like Quina, so he wouldn't screw up the uniqueness factor that Quina brought to the game. However, he wouldn't be as useless as Quina as far as story development, other than wanting to eat things, and would be able to communicate far more intellegently with the other characters, bringing out more about their personalities and their pasts.

Ok, that was just a quick example. If you're going to talk about the plot development changes that this character would bring to the game, please remember to include a spoiler warning for the game you'll be talking about! I'm looking forward to reading your ideas.

jeez....I guess everyone's too busy bashing Square on other topics like "OMG Squeenix has gone crazy" to respond to a column trying to promote imagination. Oh well, couldn't blame any of you though, Square is starting to really, really piss me off with all the FFVII sequals, so I see why you're all mad. w/e, this topic probably isn't too original anyways....

I would take a chocbo from FF8 and place it in FF10 and see if the characters would noticc the difference.
And I'll also switch Rinoa in FF8 with Yuna from FF10 and see if Squall falls for her. Rinoa and Yuna seem alot alike to me.

Well, I would remove Tidus from Final Fantasy X and put Squall from FFVIII, in his place.  I would do this because Squall, in my opinion would make the game a little more serious...Now this might have an affect on the story, in that he is quiet, and Tidus was a big loud mouth.  I would think that this would make the game a little more fun also.  It got quite frustrating when your trying to be serious and Tidus is opening his mouth.  That got frustrating at times because I need to be serious sometimes, but he was pretty much never serious.

[Possible spoilers]
This might change the fact that there was even a love story...because I doubt Squall would be the least bit interested in Yuna.  And there would probably be a little bit of argueing between Squall and Wakka, because of all their diferences.

[So maybe there weren't any spoilers...lol]

Well, well, this is new! Very nice idea, I would have never thought of this, love the innovation.

Anyway, I think I'd replace Kefka in Final Fantasy VI with Sephiroth. This may seem like an extremely odd combination, but I think it'd be amazing. I'll tell you why:

First of all, Kefka and Sephiroth have the same personality in many aspects. Let me start off by saying that I'm not saying that they're exactly the same, because we all know that there are also many things that are very different. Let's start off with Kefka: He's power hungry, insane, slightly funny, in a maniacal kind of way of course, hates everything, and extremely strong, with a sense of becoming a God (which he does) and destroying the universe. I'd also like to add that he did in fact successfully destroy the world, which has rarely been done in ANY game, let alone a Final Fantasy game.

Next is Sephiroth: He's power hungry, extremely angry (I wouldn't say insane), hates everything, wants to destroy the world, universe, and everything else with it, creating his very own paradise of death, and last but not least, successfully becomes a God and comes very close to destroying the world and universe. With that said, you can see that these two are very similar, but also very different with one large difference: Insanity. I think everyone will agree that Kefka is clearly totally insane, but Sephiroth may seem insane at times, but in actuality I believe that he is just extremely angry, and literally just hates everything. The two may seem the same at times, but in all they are like night and day.

So seeing Sephiroth in Kefka's place wouldn't really change the ending sequence I don't think, but the terror in the game (the humor would be destroyed pretty much, though) would be a lot more...well, terrifying. It'd also be neat to see what Sephiroth would do if he did destroy the world successfully. I think, instead of creating a sort of dark world, like Kefka did, Sephiroth would destroy it totally. Either way, it'd be very interesting to see Sephiroth interact with VI's world.

As we have all played FF8-FF10 first i would switch squall with tidus. In this setting i would like to see how squall reacts to yuna's personallity in seeing that she is withdrawn and sheltered IMO. Then Following ff8 story line sqall opens up to and becomes more friendly, warm, and starts to display feelings of love. In the world of ff8 Tidus would be forced to take more of a stand in leadership and lead his group of SEED'S. This would be great to also see how he handles the rivalry between him and  Seifer and the love between him and Rinoa. in eesence i would love to see how their very diffrent personlaities  would progress or regress them in each of the games worlds.

Love Axel's idea, but without Kefka in a good ol' SNES quality game, how could we listen to the best laugh in the history of video games? lol, still, good answer.

As far as Squall and Tidus, it would be interesting to see how Squall and Lulu would interact then....they're both silent, ignorat (or blunt), it would be a funny relationship to see grow throughout the game IMO. Good answers Union Members!

I would replace Selphie (FFVIII) with Celes (FFIII) because she would bring more personality to the story. Selphie is more of a 3rd leg in FFVIII and presence seems to be wasted, apart from her limit which i think is called something like Ultimate End. Celes on the other hand is one of the more crucial parts of the story-line and of she was in FFVIII she could have easily left a bigger impact.

Feel free to flame me >_<

My idea would be to switch Cloud from Final Fantasy VII with Auron from Final Fantasy X.

In Final Fantasy VII, the change would alter the dynamic between Sephiroth and the Hero/Anti-Hero, since Auron is (SPOILER ALERT) already dead. It would also change the dynamic, I think, between Auron and Tifa, since, in a way, he came back from the dead to help her. I think it would make that connection a little more real, and the romantic underpinnings that occurred between the two would be of a more serious nature, and less of a childhood crush; both for the fact that Auron is a more serious character by nature, as well as he being older (the filthy old man!). Back to Sephiroth and Auron, that duel would would take on different meanings since Auron (SPOILER ALERT) has already slipped this mortal coil. One can only imagine what the final fight would be like between these two!

In Final Fantasy X, the introduction of Cloud would not change the dynamic too much in My opinion. Cloud would be as serious, and would add another swordsman to the group, so the group balance would be the same.

Lol, Kefka's laugh was indeed insane.

I'd say we'd move Terra (VI) with Aeris (VII).

(Will contain SPOILERS)

I think they are very alike in many ways, they are unique (Aeris being the last survivor of the Cetra, Terra a daughter of a Human and an Esper). They also feel different from other people which they are, and both run away from the powerful empires for being different and having powers. (Terra from the Empire, Aeris from Shinra)

Terra in VII would be scary for the people on the slums because of her strange power and would be an outcast from other people, Cloud would be caught in the middle, chased by the Turks,  and Cloud would help Terra and they would meet then.

Terra would be more strong in her mind and not as clumpsy and lazy as Aeris were in the beginning, but she would be frail at times, questioning who she is.

Aeris on VI would have some relation with Kefka, like a sibling,  and Kefka, in all of his madness laughs, would chase Aeris to kill her, not control her like he did with Terra.

The switching Squall with Tidus thing might actualy screw up the story since if it weren't for Tidus's big mouth they never would have tried to beat the crap outta Sin instead of using the Final Aeon.

Also, I would switch Seifer from FFVIII with Seymour from FFX. They have "somewhat" of the same personality. And it's be kinda cool to see Squal cut up Seymour  And having Seifer in FFX would "greatly" change the story in FFX. The whole reason Yuna obtained Anima was because Seymour's mama wanted him to be stopped. So he'd be gone. I'd go into greater detail but I'm akinda tired right now.

I would like to swap Ultimecia/Edea from FFVIII with Exdeath from FFV. For me, Final Fantasy VIII did not have a good enough villain. Heck, you only even lay eyes on Ultimecia at the end of the game and only find out that **SPOILERS** Edea is not actually the main evildoer in the game when you are over halfway through**END SPOILERS**. I'll admit that the whole time compression fiasco devised by Ultimecia was a masterstroke but what about replacing her with a villain that has outstanding power, shows no remorse and has the brains as well, Exdeath. His use of the Power of the Void is right up in my top three FF villain's plans, the power is unbelievable and can destroy towns in seconds. Having a villain such as Exdeath in the game would really improve FFVIII's story for me as one of the key weaknesses for me in the story was a lack of a good villain.

This is my first post ever on Gamespot and I am so sorry if it has a lot of grammatical errors.

Personally, I would switch Irvine from FFVIII with Edgar from FFVI.  When I got Irvine to join my party on FFVIII, I was like, "Cool, I can kick some butt with this guy!!"  After a couple of hours of gameplay, I shook my head in disgust and disbelief. I was also pondering why Square-soft (or Square-Enix) actually created this character and had the nerve to put him in the game.  In my own opinion, (sorry if you are offended by this) Irvine is the most annoying character in FF History. Here are my reasons 1. He is very weak and has a very stupid Limit Break, compaired to the other characters who have bad-ass limit breaks.  2. He is also not involved in the storyline, which is the most essiential part of a video game.  The only 10-second moment Irvine actually shines is when he was going to assasinate Sorceress Eden, but miserably failed at the end of Disc 1. 3. Basically, all he just did was chase Selphie and Quistis around and say stupid pick-up lines.  I admit, its pretty funny when he gets rejected, but its get too old quickly.  If I had the power to switch Irvine with another character, I would choose Edgar to fill Irvine's spot.  Edgar is strong because he got the high-tech gadgets and a really huge chainsaw.  He is also involved in the storyline in FFVI and is also behind the theme of the famous plot.  Edgar is also a funny type of a ladies' man.  He says intelligent and witty comments that make me laugh, not lame pick-up lines.  (In my opinion, there are 3 kinds of ladies' mans: the funny and cute ladies man aka Edgar, the perverted wanna-be ladies man aka Irvine and the handsome guy who doesn't realize he is a ladies man because he is too caught up with other issues aka Cloud) If both characters are switched up, the FFVIII game would be a lot better, because there would be 6 intelligent warriors instead of 5, and the storyline would probably go into depth of not only Squalls problems, but Edgar's issues as well.  What I am trying to say is, FFVIII would have been a great game if intelligent, witty and strong Edgar from FFVI would fill in weak, irresponsible and perverted Irvine.

This is a really nice thread idea, I really like it. The only two people I could think of switching between games, is Auron from X, and Vincent from VII. I know some of you might be thinking "wtf is he talking about"... and let me tell you the truth, I'm not exactly sure myself, so cut me some slack.

Only reason I'm really doing this is because both Vincent and Auron's pasts are rather out of the ordinary, in the sense that Vincent is actually the biological father of Sephiroth, being the father of the unborn baby in Lucrecia's (I'm not sure if that's her name) womb. Auron on the other hand was actually not physically real in the world of X, being dead and all. I guess the switch seems normal to me, because I could easily see auron being a "father" because of all his wisdom and strength. But oh well... I'm just some crazy kid... what do I know.

I LOVE that idea!

I would also like to trade Rikku in FFX/X-2 for Selphie in FFVIII because Rikku is WAAAAAAY to cheerful for the battles against SIN and Shuyin/Vegnagun.  Selphie to me appears to have more going on upstairs and I like her demeanor.

I would have LOVED for FFVI to have a TON more character growth.  There really wasn't that much by way of the story,  No plot twists, no story arcs, nothing!  FFVI is my favoriite of all time, but the characters seemed a little limited.  FFX at least attempted to give the characters some semblance of a personality.  FFVII was a dramatic departure from the NES/SNES-era FF's, the characters in it had dimension and weight.  It seems to me that all the older FF's were two-dimensional (character-wise, not the obvious graphics).

Cheers!

Jessica
