Okay everyone, this has been on my mind for the past week and now I'm ready to discuss this. Do you think Final Fantasy had a big influence on the sales of Kingdom Hearts? Explain in detail Please

If you ask me, I would say yes simply because if they didn't add any Final Fantasy characters to Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Heart would just be a regular Disney game with RPG elements which wouldn't attrack as many FF fans. Its still a Disney game but its a Disney game with Final Fantasy characters in it which makes it great. I bet at first some of the FF fans didn't pay Kingdom Hearts any attention until they found out that there were some Final Fantasy characters in Kingdom Hearts. I think it was a good Idea on Square-Enix's part to includ Cloud and Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy characters in general.

They knew what they were doing when they added Final Fantasy characters to the game. I bet they were thinking well, this game might sell but maybe if we added some Final Fantasy characters in this game, it would maybe attrack some of our hardcore FF fans and sell pretty well. I'm not saying that they said this, I'm only thinking this is what they might have said which sounds logical to me.  All the FFVII fans didn't have a choice but to play Kingdom Hearts considering that Cloud and Sephiroth, two of Final Fantasy's most popular characters would attrack any FF fan to Kingdom Hearts. This has been on my mind for a long time and I'm glad that I got this off my chest.

I don't think that the Final Fantasy characters had a big influence on Kingdom Hearts.....but maybe a little bit. I think that people got it because it was made by Square-Enix. Like when I got the game I didn't even know their were Final Fantasy characters in the game. But I heard good things about it and I knew it would be pretty sweet since SE made it.

I wld say yes cuz FF fans buy KH ...(im one f those fans) I bought KH1 only for seeing the FF characters with voice and also for seeing Disney and Square-enix united in a game...and u know what, I love that game

There are two reasons why Kingdom Hearts was as succesful as it was and that is because it tapped into not one but two markets. People who knew nothing about Final Fantasy or the powerhouse behind those titles got the game because it was a good game with Disney characters. For those people in the know some of the sole reasons people bought it was to see Cloud or Sephiroth with updated graphics in a fully 3D world.

It was a match made in heaven for both parties because both markets (the Disney and Square-enix sector) were exposed to the other. People who knew nothing about Final Fantasy suddenly wanted to go out and play Final Fantasy X and perhaps some of those people who hadnt been to keen on Disney gave them a chance too.

Its of important note that many people who really enjoyed Kingdom Hearts loved Sora and Kairi as characters (Square-enix created characters) and as such although a part of its success was due to the Disney magic incorporated, there is no denying the pull Square-enix influence had on the game (and what goes without saying, namely the game was great).

FF characters have a big influence on the game since it is after all one of the most popular gaming series in the world and many fans had been waiting for a game which mixes FF characters from all the games in the series for a long time albeit with Disney characters included. Plus, as we all know Square are fantastic at developing games so many people knew that this would be a successful game. No other game developer could have made this game. How could Konami or Capcom fuse their characters with Disney? It just wouldn't work. It had to be Square's characters and because it was the game turned out to be great IMO. I am almost certain that the game appeals more to Square fans than Disney fans.

Because of course nobody remembers Ehrgeiz: God bless the Ring. A game that was not only rather bad, but sold even worse. I beg to differ that no other game developer could have pulled this off, just take a look at Namco X Capcom. Also even though there might be numerous Square fans that got the game I can garantee that there were quite a few gamers that had never played a Final Fantasy game before this one, not to mention it was an easy game to get into and worked in real time. Believe me as much as the pull for us might have been the Square characters other people were attracted by the Disney influence.

When I got the game I didn't even know FF characters where in it. I just knew it was with Disney characters. I don't think it influenced it greatly, but it did help. It boosted it a bit but not drasticly.

Well, I know it did for me. When I heard Squaresoft was doing a joint project with Disney, I was appauled. My beloved Final Fantasy creators making something with Bambi in it? Of course, I was 15 at the time, so Disney was very uncool. However, as soon as I saw shots of Squall and Cid in the game, I had to get it. As soon as I popped in the game, I was hooked. The FF cameos were a nice touch, but the gameplay and story was what really made the game. Whenever I tell other gamers about my adoration for the game, they scawf at me. Once I drop a few names like Cloud and Sephiroth, though, they're eager to play it.

Well, to be completely honest with you, Soulja. I don't think Kingdom Hearts would be anything at all, nothing, not a blip on the radar or a spec of sand without Square-Enix. A little harsh? I don't think so. Let's look at the facts. How many Disney games to do we see in PSM, Game Informer, EGM, OPM getting praised for it's wonderful storyline, deep characters, fast paced, well designed, and all around fun battle system? Slim to none. Point in being, it would be another "Oh, it's a movie company trying to make a game...*turns page*" kind of thing.

Now, what do people do when they see the name "Square-Enix" and "new game" put together? "Whoa....I have got to check this out." is the usual response. I mean, not one single person on this forum can deny that when we heard the statement "Square-Enix and Disney to make a new Action-RPG" we didn't think that it would be the end of Square-Enix and they were going insane. We all thought that at one moment. But wait...it's actually...good? Yes, it's awesome! Okay, so we think maybe Disney and Square-Enix can pull it off. It's got a nice story, not to childish, yet not a GTA "let's kill people" thing, a fast paced battle system, and...:o....FINAL FANTASY CHARACTERS!? That's when people started to look at it, and only then. And I'm talking about the masses, not a few people. Yes, I know, some people were interested right when they saw it. But the majority was expecting the apocalypse.

So what do I think about Final Fantasy characters being in Kingdom Hearts? I think it made the first one, literally made it. And the second one? Well...now that people know that SE and Disney are a great team, it will just bump the sales, not make it. Sure, some people will buy it for the FF cameos, but most, like myself, are buying it for the game itself. That's my 2 thousand dollars. :P

If there wasn't any FF characters in KH i don't think i would have played it..

Final Fantasy characters is what made me get this game. I am 21 so im no stranger to Disney and I was never that big fan of it.I only liked Mickey/Donal/Goofy. I hate musicals, and singing, but putting the Disney world in a RPG with FF characters let alone the FF makers I thought that was a good chemistry. Hell this game even got me  more interested in Disney, I still hate those damn outbursts of songs though. If Kingdom Hearts II and beyond start with the singing im gonna be dissapointed....

I admit it would be a little less good without the FF characters, but it would still be good enough for a top selling game.
