I certainly think so.

Without Final Fantasy, Square Enix can still count on Dragon Quest, which also sells millions, but, truly, nothing else they produce can beat the Final Fantasy name.

Square Enix largely depends on Final Fantasy. Who does agree?

Without Final Fantasy, Square Enix would probably have nothing to depend on for their marketing efforts?

I agree for the most part.

If Final Fantasy were to be ended I think SE would still be a popular gaming company, but they wouldn't have nearly as much popularity or publicity without one of the most famous series' in existence.

If they had just depended on Final Fantasy then Square would likely be bankrupt by now. It was the merger with Enix that saved Square after The Spirits Within bombed. Also as you can see from this chart Dragon Quest VII has actually sold more than Final Fantasy VII in Japan. Whilst Final Fantasy is definitely a huge name, SE aren't as reliant on it as people tend to think.

I don't know. They have sooooo many great games. But the only reason the company is here today is because of the creators "Final Fantasy" so you do have to give it that much.

thats a good point there. None of us might not know each other (like Orasion_Seiz and Fantasy Gamer, I wouldn't know either of them and a TON of other people without FF. That would suck)

the dragon quest games are actually far more profitable than final fantasy, in most areas. but they are not as well known

not really, i dont think SE would die even w/o Final Fantasy. There are so many games in the franchise that can make them alot of money.

I agree, which is sad, because you're saying that you can't make a great game like FF, but you have to rely on the name alone(like Radiata Stories is a good game, but it didn't sell that much, while FF sells a whole lot because of its name).

Actually a long while back Square was going bankrupt thats when they released "Final Fantasy" They called it "FINAL Fantasy" because that would have been their last game but with the huge sales that one game saved their company. So I guess without final fantasy the company wouldent exist any more.

Yeah that's why we are seeing them milking the series away....... Not only Square Enix's, but Sony's too. Imagine what would be to Sony without FFXIII....... that would be a stab in the back.

I think also, too, that there must be many people who wouldn't have given any of Square's other FANTASTIC games a chance had it not been for their great reputation through the FF series.

it's true and they know it. you can even say theyre trying to build up another "trump card" if, (or when they decide to discontinue the name) Final Fantasy for some unknown reason should go under, theyll have Kingdom Hearts. hopefully that will go some where. if not then they can always make like...5 more movies and 10 more games based on FF7, lol! :D

FF will never go under unless there is a weird space - time shift and the fabric of the universe is turned inside out (hehe) I wish they would make more of the SaGa series though, but alas, I think it is too complex for the general public (present company excluded of course) who like to be "spoon fed" their RPG's.

I agree fully without the FF series Square Enix could not survive Dragon Quest hasnt made very many games recently(but I think there trying to bring it back, DQ monsters and DQ 7) and judging by children of mana(which reviewers didnt like very much) they probably wouldnt be able to survive off of the mana series either.

SE isn't SE without Final Fantasy and with only the others series generating benefits will be very hard !

Final Fantasy has an above average standard of quality and that's why people like it so much. But FF XII for example, it's not so good but it still sells a lot due to it's name.

I think the Final Fantasy series is incredibly important because it turns people's attention to other franchises owned by SE, which are mostly good.
