Final Fantasy is known for the fantastic melodies that they incorporate into the games, But Has the quality of the music suffered in the latest FF games (FFX, FFX-2, FFXII) I would like to hear your thoughts on this. And please explain your reasoning in full.

Nobuo Uematsu's input to FFX was definitely very repetitive. Aries theme = Yuna Theme and other similarities, that were also present in FFIX. Nobuo's prime was definitely FFVI-FFVIII. However, Masashi Hamauzu's input was strikingly different to your usual FF, or any RPG for that matter.

FFX-2 actually had some fabulous tracks, yet the game's "fun" atmosphere meant most tracks were very similar.

FFXII has an amazing soundtrack! Every tracks is great and the composer Hitoshi Sakimoto definitely captures the mood and atmosphere of Ivalice. I recommend this ever so much.

Now what I wonder is whether FFXIII will be amazing or not? Well since Masashi Hamauzu is the composer I should expect/hope so. The only thing that worries me is the similarities to FFXIII and FFX-2. Hopefully the soundtrack won't be another similarity.

I think it isn't whether Hamauzu has the talent, he does.  But I don't think he has the experience yet.  Once he does, he may be able to put forth a worthy OST single-handed, but he first needs to broaden his style.

i thought the ffx soundtrack was good and fairly diverse although some small similarities. ffix was not quite up to par with the ones that came before it. and from what small clips ive heard from the ffxii soundtrack, i think it sounds great.

I agree with JAG in saying that his prime was in VI through VIII, those soundtracks were all unique and memorable, but in X and X-2, it just didnt give off that feeling for me, it just felt like generic background music that could be found in any other game

(just for the record: i love anything by Nobuo!) though there are some similarities that make it seem like he's losing his touch, but his music makes me feel something. his work stirs up my soul and hidden emotions. whats-his-face who did FF10-2 is okay in my book but i felt nothing. i havent even heard FF12 yet but if Nobuo wasnt in charge then i doubt i'll feel anything once again. the same goes for 13 and any other FF game in the future.

Maybe my reasonning isn't in full, and I may not know the composers as well as others, but I will once again agree that the most memorable tracks were of FFVI - FFVIII. In which case, I find myself easily brought back to moments I remember of the game when I hear each theme, whereas, if I'd listen to any track of FFX, remixed or not, I'll quickly skip to a preffered track from FF7. I may also have a biased opinion seeing as though I am a die hard FF7 fan :p

FFX had some good music but by no means does it come close to FFVIII.  FFVII had so good music as well.

I liked all of Uematsu's work, yes I would agree FF VII-VIII were the best because on the PS he was finally able to work to his potential. I also like FF XII music as well, and I think FF will continue to have awesome music.

I liked all FF music I've heard (FFVI-VII-VIII-X) except FFX-2.

X-2 music isnt as bad as people think.

eternity of waves, 1000 words piano and vocal, yunas ballad were my favourites on that game. it had some very pop like tracks but i still liked them.

The pop track are good but I don't like the background musics.
