Why won't you ever replay it? You didn't like even the battle system?

I thought the battle system was definitely a good and important leap; however the game itself was just terribly boring imo.  All the settings were drab, mundane, and repeated again and again for several areas.  The character design is uh....could be better imo.  The entire world is a big cataclysmic clash of ugly colors, and every character looks the same and talks the same.  Also, is it just me or did the CGI get worse in this game...the hair in particular is blocky and seems like a step back from FFX.  Now all of that together can still make a good game, but in the end, the main problem for me was that there was virtually no story.  I didn't develop a single bond with any of the characters and was appalled by their lack of development.  The game simply proceeds as "get one item, item is useless or stolen, get another item...and so on."  I felt that the entire game was a chore and had no incentive to go through the game's drab, uninspired envirnoments, particularly that cataract with all the many floors.  To me, the game just flat out wasn't fun, and once I finished it and started playing Okami I was like OMG now THIS is a GAME!

FF12 is not as bad as you describe it. Firts, the story (yes, there is a story) is not character oriented, this is not the tipical love story of previous ffs. The characters designs are reminiscent of the ff tactics designs; and well, ugly colors in the entire world?, what about the Ceroby steppe (just one example). Also, i though that the Pharos was brilliantly designed, (spoiler alert) the fight with Hashmal without the aid of a save point, after almost 2 hours of time played, with the mp and hp of the characters depleted hearing the "Esper battle" song every second..., seriously, it was a matter of life or dead. Personally i felt (and keep feeling) a bond but not exactly with the characters, but with their concerns. Finally, according to what i read in a feature of gamespot related to ff12 like a month ago, ff12 has more NPC than any other ff. And (i almost forgot) FF12 is not comparable to Okami, they are way too diferent, FF12 is a hardcore game and okami is a very, very light hearted game.

Uh no I did not like any of the Cerobi Steppe, Hashmal, or Pharos.  My description of the game is simply how I perceived it. I acknowledge that other people perceive the game differently and respect that just as I respect my friends who like Ludacris. This just isn't MY game, hence I won't be replaying it. Maybe it is YOUR game, but that doesn't mean I lied in describing the game based on how I experienced it simply because YOU enjoyed it more. Btw I'm just comparing Okami to FFXII because it was a better experience for me. Don't tell me you can't compare experiences; otherwise, how do they select Best Picture with all the different genres.

I liked Okami too, i even think it should have been game of the year, but tied with FF12 and Elders Scroll 4 (sorry, this is  Square Enix experience and not the clover experience).

My main topic is FFXII which last time I checked is a square game. Okami is still in the square topic as I'm comparing it to a square game...otherwise for one thing my ludacris thing would also be classified off topic which you didn't single out on now didya.  Just because there is a subset doesn't mean that the entire thing is off on a tangent....otherwise I would have gotten a 0 instead of a 12 on the SAT writing for using a comparison to a book and past experience.

Actually I kind of agree with ya Omegabustr. This was probably the first actual Final Fantasy game that made me get bored with it, in terms of the plot. Don't know really why, I just felt it wasn't engrossing as previous games. Really getting towards the end I was hoping to finish it just so I could move on. I wasn't too impressed with the ending either. Beyond the story though I enjoyed everything else.

One of the things I've heard people complain about most in terms of the plot was that it wasn't nearly as epic as pretty much any other FF game you can think of. In those games, it's often the fate of the entire world that hangs in the balance. There's also, as someone mentioned, usually a big love story. Now, that's not to say that there aren't some easily identifiable love relationships in the story (the level of trust that Fran and Balthier have, they obviously love one another very much, just maybe not in that way, and Vaan and Panelo have a loving brother/sister thing going on), but it's nothing like Yuna and Tidus or anything like that. The scale in XII is much smaller. I rather like that, but other people might not.

By the by, I have yet to complete the game, but it's been about 150 hours and counting (I'm doing all the side stuff.) It's the longest I've stuck with any FF game. I find it much more engrossing than many of the FF games I've played, and I know without a doubt that I will finish it. Trust me, I am not one of those people who feels particularly bad not finishing a game. If I'm bored, you can forget it; I will abandon it in a heartbeat. Life is too short to waste it on recreational pursuits that aren't recreational.

Well, what I can say is that I loved the battle system to death - Final Fantasy really needed this kind of change in order to continue competitive and not with the same long waiting to fight. I'm looking forward to check out the battle system on FFXIII when it comes out. Not to mention that it cuts a lot of time spent on leveling up, since it got rid of all those screens and character victory poses, leaving it only for the important battles.

As for the storyline, I also didn't like, and as some stated, it got me bored to death. It was mainly a Star Wars mixed with Lord of the Ring wanna-be; the characters were as shallow as they could be and hardly charismatic, with the exception of a few who really shine in my opinion (like Balthier, for example, even though he was basically Hans Solo).

Well, I really liked FF XII, had this cool political story that revolved on decisions, and the fate of the world was tied to the feelings of the characters too, you know, revenge, power lust.

I finished the game and now I have 90 hs, have my party (Basch, Ashe, Vaan) at levels 87, 83, 81. Have almost all trophies 2 hunts left (Yiazma(28 bars left) and the summoner). I still havent engaged in the Rare games quest.

That looks great! I still have quite some hunts to finish yet.... and other quests like the Zodiac Spear, which means I'll have to start again in order to complete it... XD

Yes thats basically what I thought about the game entirely. I quite enjoyed this new battle system especially because of the non loading battles. But the characters weren't very responsive minor a few which has left me with no real memorable feeling about them, maybe Baltheir the only one. He was pratically the show, or the game to the very end should we say.

Well, you dont necessarily need to restart. Just go to the Henne mines secret pass and there will be one there

Really? I thought the only way to get one was to leave certain treasures alone all game and then go to a little room in the Necrohol of Nabudis. Of course, there's generally more than one way to skin a cat, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. I just found the secret back way into the Henne Mines, so maybe I'll poke around in there and see what I find.
