I think that the Dragon warrior/quest series are probably the most under rated Square games.
As those games are huge in Japan, but you here very little about them in the US and also some of them are among the best RPGs in my opinion.

I would partly agree with you on that one, but I would consider them more a part of Enix then Sqaure. I can't wait to play Dragon Quest VIII this november, its going to be my first dragon quest game that I will play.

Yes I know that Dragon Warrior is from Enix, but since they merged and became Square-Enix I just put Square because I am too lazy to write Square-Enix all the time.
I'd say FFIX and X-2, FFIX was good but i didn't like it because it was under-rated, And one of the main reasons why i hated FFX-2 was also because it was under-rated.bahamat0
Why don't you like them because they are underrated in your opinion, you make it sound like they are overrated :|

I know what you mean, I never write out the companies whole name I just write "square."
Xenogears. It was better than any Final Fantasy I've ever played and it ended up getting half the credit. They didn't even produce a respectable number of copies, untill a few years ago when demand was really high. Funny how they've decided to cling to the rights to Xenogears after they'd had so little faith in it. I don't think they want the competition from Monolithsoft. After that, I'm gonna say Dragon Warrior, in the U.S...
It rivals FF in Japan, but over here? Not a chance.
i would say final fantasy tactics ADVANCEffsage
That game isn't underrated it's just really, REALLY bad.
I would agree on Radiata Stories!
nice one Seifer, digging out a really old topic!

 thanks! it was the last topic :P
I never played Radiata Stories, how is it?
Obviously FF Legends:D It was one of the greatest portable RPGs ever made (not including remakes.....)
I also agree w/ FFIX too, that was a great game, really returned to its origins:D

RS was a very good game. Didn't get much news but the option to be able to choose one side or another part of the way through the game was really nice.
Kind of a good way to add at least one replay option.

Agreed. Huge replay value. The ONLY thing I didn't like about RS was the lack of save spots...
FFIX is not underrated. In fact none of the Final Fantasies are underrated. In fact, some of them are overrated *cough*Dirge of Cerberus*cough*.
No Under-Rated games are the one like Bahamut Lagoon, Terranigma (an awesome game on par with A Link To the Past), and very easily Vagrant Story, which was one of Square's greatest creations off the RPG genre. Even Famitsu gave it a 40/40.
I think FF VII: DoC is one of the most under rated Square games. I've played through it several times and people do not give it enough credit at all. That's just my opinion anyway.oathkeeper_khWonky controls. Bad animations. Bland in game graphics. No variety in enemies to shoot at. Only 3 weapons to shoot with. Repetitive level design. Nop challenge at all. Enemy AI is virtually non existant. Voice work that ranges from average to bad. Bad dialog and translation. DoC deserves the rep it gets. The game is a poor excuse for a bad shooter. If you need your FPS RPG fix, I would recommend Deus Ex, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl or System Shock 2 instead.
Oh. Xenogears. Another one

Ommg! YES! Terrangima is hugely underated! I think only because it never came out in the states, its popularity wasn't widely known, i think also it wasnt commerically advertised as well which was a huge bummer. I never knew about the title until a friend told me about it, and after i rented it from him, I was blown away by it. Seriously has one of the best stories and paths to follow in a RPG ever :) *and i've played many RPG's* :P
i don't think vagrant story and parasite eve are underrated. everyone i know who HAVE played it, absolutely loved it. it's not underrated, just under-the-radar, so to speak.
i'm with fs on the dirge of cerberus thing. i'm an ff7 fanboy among ff7 fanboy, but even i think this was a poor excuse of a game, it completely ruined the environment and feel that the characters and setting the original ff7 had. ff7 had a dark gritty world with characters that had real-world problems and a believable look and feel to them. dirge of cerberus gave us one character completely covered in all black bandaged with machine arms on his back, and characters with electronic suits with glowing LEDs all over their body, carrying giant electric guns or lightsabers. RPG shooter fix, go with anything fs_metal said, or play mass effect or bioshock, both are extremely fun and have amazing story telling.
i say ff9 is pretty underrated. i know some people who hate the game, even though they never played it a bit. others like to call it "kiddy", even though there was clearly nothing kiddy about it.
ff11 is also underrated. just because you don't like online games or don't want to pay a monthly fee for it doesn't make it a bad game. too many people like to bash on this game even though they have never even TOUCHED this game. i actually played it and liked it a lot, thank you very much. it really gave that feeling of going on a grand adventure across extremely vast lands.
i don't think parasite eve 1 was underrated, but i think 2 was underrated. that game got flamed for changing it's battle system, but people don't realize that the game would have been exactly the same as part 1 if it kept the same battle system. some people can't except change.
also, people seem to be confusing underrated with underplayed. vagrant story got GRAND reviews. it was not rated low at all. it just wasn't played by many people because they didn't even know about it back when it came out.
Final Fantasy IX by a mile!
Many fans of the FF franchise I've met have either completely ignored FFIX, or think it wasn't as good as the other ones. I respect the ninth installment. It takes you back to the older Fantasies, with Vivi as the real Black mage. Plus there has only ever been one FFIX character in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, and that is Vivi. I'd like to see others like Steiner, Freya, even Zidane would suit the story. But I have to say Final Fantasy IX is the most underrated SE game.
Another one I have to mention is Terranigma. It was made by Enix back in 1996 and was a Super Nintendo game that never released in America. It's not that I've ever met a person who doesn't like Terranigma, but I've barely met people who've PLAYED it. I like this more than Kingdom Hearts, and I like it more than the entire Zelda franchise (apart from OoT). It's an Action-RPG and it's simply brilliant as you control a one man with a spear, on a quest to revive the planet.
I also find the Seiken Densetsu series rather underrated. Secret of Mana being yet another SNES masterpiece.

.....:(...:x... this REALLLLLLLLY annoys me... when people say that about a game but have never even bothered trying to play it, especially a game as good as FFIX, it makes me want to beat the living **** out of them ...:x...:(...:) OK i'm calm... it's all good. i just needed to get that out of my system.
