I have been stuck for two days at the Battle Arena in FFVII, trying to get Ominslash for Cloud.

I've amassed 200 GP, which means I've got 20 tries to get 32,000 Battle Points (the requirement for the Omnislash manual), but the handicaps that come with each round make it difficult for me to face the later bosses.

I keep getting killed for the dumbest reasons.

For instance, I'll lose half my HP in a handicap, and the last boss will wipe me out when I can't heal fast enough.

Another example, I'll lose access to my accessory (ribbon), and some annoying enemies will send me into berserk...but as there's no way to cure berserk (since Cloud's the only character fighting), I'll eventually die from not being able to heal myself.

Or a handicap will break my sword, another handicap will deplete my magic, and another handicap will disable my access to my item bag. The combination of these will result in my demise.

I feel like my arms and legs are getting chopped off every time I get a new handicap!

And let's not mention that huge, annoying skeleton-pirate thing who picks me up with his oar and throws me out of the ring for instant death :|

I'm Level 55 right now, so I thought I should be able to conquer the Battle Arena. But so far, my luck has pointed the other way.

Am I doing something wrong? Those of you who conquered the Battle Arena and obtained Omnislash, do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

MeMoRiEs....I remember the battle arena well. It was a chore fo' sure. But I got through it...I think the key is to try to pick handicaps that don't hurt you right away. It escapes me now, but if you press a button fast enough, it looks like it slows the slot down so if you're nice with your button pressing skills, you'd be able to pick the lesser evil. Sometimes, you'll get lucky & stuff like poison would be a choice, & if you have the ribbon, it wouldn't effect you. What I did was go into the arena with my limit break ready, use haste & Magic barrier in the beginning which transfer to the next round if you beat up your enemies fast enough, use only magic or spells you get from your enemies, or if you have something that gives you the ability to attack without using your limit break (the steal+attack, I think it's called capture, that ability to attack twice (the name escapes my mind)...there a few stuff you can use...while saving you're limit break till the end. It won't be easy. If you manage to get a mimic with a few stars, that's pretty much all you need. I wish I could remember how I had my set up cause I know I was kickin a** at the arena toward the end. I know I had mimic mastered, keep doing my limit break & then mimic it for the last couple of fights.

If I remember correctly, the worst the handicap, the more points you get at the end. So I would pick a few of the easier to deal with handicaps in the beginning, then chose the worst toward the end, long as it didn't involve me losing my yellow orbs (for mimic & 2xCut or 4xCut) & beat the last few monsters with limit breaks + mimic.

I'm sure someone will give you a better outline of what you need to do to pwn the battle arena. Good luck.

I guess I can help. Well first off when you start in the battle arena, you should cast haste, making it better the attack and stuff. Sometimes it's batter to use magic instead of just attacking the whole time. If you ever get disabled magic and attack, go into your item bag and use the magic items, they work like a charm. When your a frog, by luck you won't fall asleep, you should have a item forgot it's name though, and you should turn back to normal. Have some All materia equipped to your strongest magic too.

I think you would be best off looking in this Battle Arena FAQ here. And yes, that skeleton boat thing sucked, I still have nightmares about it. >_>.

Thanks for all the helpful responses, guys.

Btw, how do you get the "mime" ability?

Edit: Found the answer to my question. Apparently it's a materia.

Always check Gamefaqs.  I am almost posotive that there is a faqs for the arena.  Its seems you have most of the prereqs to start the fight, but maybe a few tips here and there could help ya!

if you want more Gp just walk out the golden saucer entrace and walk back in keep doing it and near the save point a man will eventually appear who will sell you GP.

It takes longer than that some times it varies and you got to be fast and he can be quite hard to see but if you look past the save poing near the wall you will see him his got a yellow face.

Hey, thanks for the tip ff-leader.

I finally found him - he was just hard to see my first try, like you said.

Appreciate it :)
