What's wrong with FFIX?!?!

Come on, people, why don't you love it?! It had one of the best graffics in PS, it's nice and long, it has good laughs and good cries, nice systems, the best card game, cute Chocobos, none of the charaters was too annoying, and it just has a fantastic feeling! SO WHY DOESN'T ANYONE ELSE LIKE IT?!

AND yes, I might be just a little protective towards it; after all, it was my first FF, ;)

BUT IT'S STILL A FREAKING GOOD GAME!

why people did not like FFIX? there are several reasons.

First of all the game sold 5 million units, while FFVII sold 9 million, FFVIII sold 7million and FFX sold 7 million as well.

some people who played FFVIII gave up on the series because the game failed to reach their high expectations of the game. So they did not want to buy FFIX.

another reason is that a lot of people think that the character look childish. Keep in mind that the reason FFVII, FFVIII, and FFX where so popular was because their looked more mature. So many people felt that the game was childish.

Also advertising on FFVII, FFX and especially FFVIII was what drove people to buy these games, while the advertisments for FFIX where rather lame.

well those are some reasons but in my opinion, those people who did not play FFIX are trully missing out. oh well their loss.

I loved that game. The only part i didn't like was that whole Chocobo Hot/Cold game.master_of_yore

I found that to be quite fun.

I didn't say it didn't have annoying characters, I said they weren't TOO annoying FOR ME. Eiko is the only one I really would like to ditch, but the others aren't too bad.

this is my favriot of all of them. i think FF7 is the best but htis one was great. zidane is the man!

Oh i love this game. It has the best ending out of any game ever in my opinion. I have to say the charecter designs kind of suck. A monkey boy. A river danceing rat. A fat white blob with a toung. A big slab with huge arms and a weird hat (armadant). And a little flute playing girl. I can see why the charecters arent very popular.Gotrek44

From the looks of it, it has every good games have (for it's time)

but there's just one thing that bugs me bout it, it have cute lil characters instead of life-size cool looking ones like the one in FFVIII n FFVII (actually most FF games have them except for those earlier ones which looks like a pokemon game).

that's the only thing that kept me from buying that game, it may seem like a small stuff to you guys but that's just my opinion. i don't have any reasons to hate those character in FFIX, it just bugs me..

Yep, you're right. I personally like IX because it has that Medieval look. Future and fantasy don't really mix that well in my opinion.

To a little more off-topic, I haven't played RPGs "seriously" for a while ( had my hands full with Jak and GT4, :P ), so I was wondering if any of you guys with excellent taste ;) have played a RPG witch had a similar mood, or feel to it as IX has. 'Cos even though IX is so marvelous game, it does take a little away from the experience when you're playing it for the billionth time, ;)

FF Tactics. It's my second faverite game ever. It is even more medieval like then FFIX. The story is amazing, honestly it's the thrid best story I have heard. And unlike other FF games, it does not revolve around saving a world. the whole game takes place on a Continent of the world Ivalice, same world as in FFXII. Also the major creators of FFIX and especially FF Tactics are making FFXII, so that's another game that would suit your taste. The only bad thing about FF Tactics is that the battle take a bit long. But definetly a game that you must play if you already have not.

I personally don't taking sides between the futuristic FF games and the medieval FF games. I like them all and find them each quite unique frome each other and other RPGs.

yea that doesn't matter to me either i actaully like it their at different times it gives it a better feel

People don't seem to like FFIX because after VII and VIII which were more mature, futuristic games which many people started off playing Final Fantasy with, FFIX went back to old Final Fantasy roots which was not futuristic, more medievil which, for some gamers, put them off the game. Also the above poster says that the earlier Final Fantasy games 'that look like a Pokemon game' have cute lil people in them. Characters from earlier FF games can be good, strong characters even if the graphics are not 3-D. Such as Cecil he certainly wasn't little and I think we all know Kefka wasn't exactly cute and Sabin could probably pwn Squall's ass any day of the week. So just because the characters don't LOOK cool it doesn't mean that they are not strong ones.Somegamer

i'm not saying they looked weak (kimahri looked powerful but in my game even rikku's better than him!)

characters like vincent, cloud, sephiroth, squall n many more have the looks.. (i'm not saying they look powerful)

characters from FFIX just looked a bit to the cute side, maybe i'll appreciate the game when i play it..

There is nothing wrong with FF IX.:D Anybody who is a fan of ff or rpg games should have it or at least played it.:P Before you make a judgement or give a bad comment on a game: play it, finish it and then we will talk! Same goes with humans. It's not only the outside that counts but far more the inside; because the outside is a reflection of the inside...(like an inverted mirror).8)
