Hi i was wondering which of the recent FF remakes was the best? By remakes I mean the ones they put on GBA and on DS. I dont mean from the ground up remakes like with FF3 I mean which one is the best, not which is most improved since its original release. Just which one is overall better. :P

Basically, FFIII is the only one which have undergone a "true" remake. The rest are ports.

Anyway, as to staying true to the original despite the additions, the following is my ranking, 1 being the first and 5 being the last:

1. Final Fantasy V Advance

2. Final Fantasy IV Advance

3. Finla Fantasy I  & II: Dawn of Souls

4. Final Fantasy VI Advance

5. Finla Fantasy III

Well, I would say FF3.

FF1 & 2 is not that good, FF4 is kinda buggy and I didn't play FF5 and FF6 on GBA so...

I'll surely buy FF6 soon.

they did remake them all a bit its just FF3's was the most significant. The others (according to reviewers) have undergone slight graphical and translation improvements and they have added other things like bonus dungeons bestiary and music player.

FFIII is no doubt the best remake they have done. The graphic for DS were just amazing, the new stuff and everything that they changed, and yet everything they left like on the original... just amazing. As for the others. So far I'm playing FFVI advance, and I can tell the translation is superb. They did change some phrases we were used to, but overall the job was done great, I really love this translation better than the SNES version. I played the other ports and they are all good compared to their earlier versions. FFIV adv is not the SNES easy type so that's great. Dawn of Souls had really nice graphics although they were just from Wonder Swam if I'm not mistaken. And FFV was also a good port. Personally I only didn't like FFVI's extras; I think they could have added more interesting stuff.

FFIII - graphic overhaul (clearly).

I really like the extras in IV, that added a lot of extra playing time, specially for me since I've beaten the game like ten times on my SNES back in the day. I and II deserve some credit as well since it looks so much better than it did on the NES.

I can't really say much about V or VI since I never got to play too much of V because it would freeze each time I tried to save (playing it on the PS2) and am just playing it now on the GBA, and I haven't tried the VI remake on the GBA (although I've played the SNES version plenty of times). I think I'll get VI once I beat V.
