08 Year of the Flop? Plus year end flop predictions!

So we're coming into the home stretch of 08 and the all the major holiday releases are close to coming out. So I thought I should create this thread to look back at all the flops and to call out any future flops that may be in store. So PLEASE make whatever predictions on any upcoming game coming out and what its score you think it will get.

And seeing how so many games have flopped from good developers (Too Human, Haze, Spore) from all genres (NG2, IU).

In case you forgot flop count this year: PC: 2 (STALKER CS, Spore), X360: 4 (IU, TH, LO, NG2), PS3: 1 (Haze)

So now take the time to make your predictions for future ownage.

Personally I think R2, Fable 2 and Banjo have the biggest chance of flopping. From the MAJOR exclusives coming out. I think Far Cry 2 will underwhelm just a bit (probably a .5 flop situation).

And if I missed any flops from any system let me know and I'll fix it.

not a Flop was not reviewed by gamespot yet.

I know its technically not a flop here yet but according to Kevin-V there is like two guys reviewing PC games right now so who knows if they will get to it and most other sites say its only A so I guess technically its a pending flop.

Far Cry 2 will flop so badly. People think that since it has "Far Cry" in the title that it is somehow related to the original Far Cry, which was an amazing game. Far Cry 2 is being made by Ubisoft without any help from Crytek, and we all know Ubisoft's track record with hyped games. Assassin's Creed anyone?bungie93

very true, in my book farcry 2 came out last year, I'd laugh if crysis warhead is said to be better and fc2 fails to score as high. ubi games tend to be pretty average unless they are just the publisher

Clear Sky should be taken off the list. Wait for the GS review. Anyway flop or not, it's one of the best flops I've played.

Unreal. So please enlighten me on how you measure people looking forward to a game? What's a shame, is that you enjoy seeing games do poorly. Just delete your account and go into marketing.

If something can be a "great" game, and be labeled a flop, your logic fails. Also in the thread he says small score differences don't really count, the example is a game being hyped AAA and getting a 4.0. NG2 was according to you "hyped AAA" and recieved AA. Not a flop according to GS standards. You're making your own additions to the rules.

Hyped AAA, didnt get it. Still an awesome game, just didnt get the score here that it was hyped.

I'm going to guess Fallout 3, for a couple of reasons:

a) The engine is essentially unchanged from Oblivion. Characters still look the same and are animated in the same way. The speech system is identical, even down to the problems it had in Oblivion, particularly with schizophrenic NPCs.

b) Looks far too much like they've decided to make Oblivion with guns. Starts out exactly the same; make a character in a tunnel, then emerge into the open world. Has the same main storyline and side-quests system as Oblivion.

c) The gun play looks very dated. The VATS system will make it more interesting, but if you play it like a shooter it appears in videos so far to play out like a mediocre FPS.

d) It does nothing for Fallout fans at all. They've taken epic liberties with the backstory, to the point where i wonder why they're even bothering to call it Fallout, and dont just make a new game with a different name.

Agree, but Oblivion had all of these problems and it didn't flop and sold well, This game is so overhyped and is going to get high scores no matter how good it really is.

Also Disgaea, BUZZ!! Quiz T.V., MLB: The Show and Sing Star flopped for the PS3.

Fable 2 looks like a legitimate AAA game it's been in development for a very long time and Peter Molyneux learned a lot from his first game. If you want my opinion GEoW2 and LBP have a better chance than Fable 2 at missing AAA status.Palax

Fable 2 will score 8.5 - 9.0 (AA) on Gamespot. Everywhere else it'll probably get 9.0-9.5.

All the games I listed were flops, thats a fact, there may be good or even great games but they are flops here. Deal with it, and if u still say so please re-read the system wars information before posting.

And buzz tv, singstar, and MLB 08 didnt flop because there wasnt a hype for them. Show me one thread that says were hyped to some measure (A-AAAA) and then u can use it.

And MLB isnt even exlusive, wow so much ignorance in this thread its amazing...

Me too, Im not sure what its exact hype is but from what everyone has been saying I think its AA to AAA but I think it might be a 7.5 to 8.0.

But I hope I'm wrong.

I could imagine the review, 8.0, although innovative, a distinct lack of guns can fustrate some players who would rather blast their way through than to run.

Killzone 2: I think I'm gonna love it, I think it'll get AA scores at the worst. That can or can't be a flop depending on the hype.

Resistance 2: Won't flop, I'm guessing AA scores at the worst.

Little Big Planet: Won't flop, AA scores at the worst.

Banjo Nuts and Bolts: Might flop, around 7.0 at the worst.

Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm: Won't flop, AA scores at the worst.

Sonic Unleashed: I'm really not sure. I think I'll like it, but maybe 7.5 at the very worst, but I think it'll score AA.

Sonic Dark Brotherhood: Will flop, around 6.0 at the worst.

Halo Wars: Won't flop, AA scores at the worst.

Starcraft II: Won't flop, AA scores at the worst.

Diablo III: I'm really not sure about this one. But I don't think it looks good.

NBA 09 the Inside: Will flop, around 6.0 at the worst. But I'm gonna love this game no matter what.

InFamous: Won't flop, I'm guessing high AA to mid AAA scores.

Mirror's Edge: Could flop, it seems like the same hype Assassins Creed had, "OMG, you get to run around and climb things!" It was great at first, but it became boring after a while. But I think it'll get AA scores.

Because the game did not live up to expectations, and NGB/NGS are undoubtably more balanced, and simply better games.

With a predecessor being touted as 'one of the best action games EVER,' NG2 failed big time.
