7. Master Chief
We all know how cool and important Master Chief is, but perhaps it's time for the legendary Spartan to find peace. Although future Halo games without Chief would likely be ridiculed for their lack of the big green guy, Chief's death could potentially be one of the most powerful moments in gaming -- at least when it comes to games revolving around soldiers and war. Halo 3 already tricked us into thinking that Chief might find his end and that stirred up some serious emotions. If he actually fell in the heat of combat, nestled in a dust-strewn corner while Cortana comforted him with soft whispers, well, we might just have to go dry our eyes.
4. Kratos
This could easily be one of the hardest ones to call, simply because the Ghost of Sparta won't stay dead. He survived numerous battles with monsters across the ancient world, has been sent to Hades repeatedly and even came back after attempts on his life by the gods. Yet Kratos keeps coming back for more with his lust for vengeance never satiated. Although the upcoming God of War III has been promised to be the last in the franchise, there's no telling whether Kratos will finally gain peace as he takes on the Gods of Olymups. But, this is easily one where we'd like to see Kratos go out on top.
1. Link
Let's put it all on the table -- we love The Legend of Zelda and we love Link. Still, it's time for Link to be the Hero of Time and give his life saving the day. This franchise spends so much time in each and every game building this tale of a country boy who grows into a savior. Seeing as how Nintendo is dead set on resetting the franchise every time it creates a new game, sacrificing Link at the end of the next game would be the emotional finale the series needs -- it would be unexpected and it would be a more conclusive ending than thinking about Link trying to go back to a normal life.
