I feel that games from the NES/SNES era age much better than games from the PS1 ( especially 3D games). N64 had some games like Super Mario 64 that would still be enjoyable today but for the most part I feel 2D games ate much better. I definitely agree with Symphony of the Night though. I played t for the first time like 2 years ago and loved it

Good picks. I've never played a Pokemon game *flame shield engaged*, but as for the rest I still find all those games enjoyable.

Hey that's awesome, my first go with SotN was about 3 years ago I think. Its such a great game! I was a fan of Castlevania from the beginning, but the N64 games killed it for me and thought SotN would be garbage as well. I'm so glad I gave it a chance when it became available for download.

And I defintely agree about 2d game aging better. NES, SNES and Genesis games will always be fun to me.

That's most likely due to the transition from 2D to 3D which, as you know, was still new back then and didn't always give pleasant results. Both consoles still has great games that you could pick up and play (SoTN for example) and then there's some other games you used to like back then that you might not be able to enjoy these days.

At least that's what happens with me.

Personally it's hella easier to make a top 10 list of games that haven't aged well.

Every singlegood 2D game from the 16 bit era is practically ageless (appeals on the eye, fluid gameplay, excellent controls), and i've played a ton of them, so it's impossible to pick from that era.

From the 5th generation it's easier for me (disregarding 2D games), a lot of the 3D ones are diseased with a poor framerate that interferes with my enjoyment, and even though it's easier than the 4th generation, it's still incredibly hard because of many games that don't have that issue.

Street Fighter II has aged very well. I still enjoy playing that fighter from time to time to this day. I'll go back from the huge influx of fighters we received this generation to Street Fighter II,

I think that's mostly due to their simplicity.

The earliest 3D games don't hold up today because it took a gen or two for some of the mechanics of 3D gameplay to be polished. 1st gen PS1 games didn't even have dual analog, you had to play 3D games with a gamepad only.

99% of games made on the 16-bit era haven't aged at all. they were technically proficient enough to have sharp controls and gameplay without technical issues that plagued most 8-bit games, and are also visually detailed enough to still look pretty.

Yeah I had played Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver back on PS1 and loved it at the time so I bought it again on PSN and couldn't even play it because the DPad only controls were unbearable

Early 3D games have not aged as well as 2D games. Even SNES games aged better than PS1 games. PS1 games are just ugly now. So I am gonna try and make a top 10 list of early 3D console games that hold up well. (PS1, Saturn, N64, 3D0, Jaguar, Neo-Geo). All of these are 3D and their original versions. Also the CGI backgrounds trick does not count (Sorry Final Fantasy 7 and Resident Evil.)

In no order-

1- Crash Badicoot.

2- Virtua Fighter 2

3- Waverace 64

4- Starfox 64

5- Goldeneye

6- Metal Gear Solid

7- Wipeout XL

8- Colony Wars

9- Banjo Kazooie

10- Panzer Dragoon

crimsonman1245

The first generation pokemon games feel horribly dated to me. Some types/pokemon are clearly overpowered and there's only special instead of special attack and special defense. And the fact that there's hardly any moves for so many types make it kinda boring. Even anything third generation or before feels dated because all the moves are physical or special based on the type.

Not a single early 3D game will be mentioned :P A lot of them visually have aged terribly but since I started gaming at that time those kind of graphics hold a lot of charm for me.

Hell to the no, what? How did my OP in any way conflict with your opinion about Quake 2, iron sights, or shooters in general?

Its simple. Try to post some old school games that hold up well gameplay wise. You listed one, feel free to keep going.
