10 Years Later and Metroid Prime is still the Greatest Game of all time

It is remarkable to think that it has almost been a whole decade since Nintendo's Masterpiece Metroid Prime was released. It's even more amazing that the game still looks so fantastic even after all these years, the amount of polish and effort that went into this game is astonishing. I mean Metroid Prime seriously looks better than some games that get released even to this day. The game even plays better than it looks, for anyone that hasn't played this godly game yet I highly suggest they do because it still holds up great even a decade later. I wish Nintendo, or any gaming developer for that matter, still produced high quality games like this, but I guess that is just not the case anymore. How it didn't get a 10 on IGN or Gamespot is one of those mysteries that will never be solved.

i love metroid prime, but to me its not even the best metroid ever, that honor goes to super metroid.

I finished it, it was alright, nothing too special except the fact that the level design was pretty good.

I played it for the first time when I bought the Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wii. It's a great game. I got goosebumps the first time I saw the snow in Phendrana Drifts.

That said, the game requires a lot of patience to play. I spent a lot of the time wandering around aimlessly not knowing what to do. It's a unique and fantastic experience, but it's definitely not for everyone.

I prefer a linear game rather then a game that gives me open areas to wonder around doing nothing. I'm not talkin about MP specificaly but I dont get why people automatically think linear = bad. I prefer a well done linear experience rather than a badly made open game. Look at Far Cry 2 for ex. Big open world and still boring to wonder around in it

I prefer a linear game rather then a game that gives me open areas to wonder around doing nothing. I'm not talkin about MP specificaly but I dont get why people automatically think linear = bad. A game is very linear when there is little doubt about where you have to go, or where you can go. Some people like linearity in certain games but not in other games. Other people almost always prefer games that are less linear. I would say that Metroid prime is not that linear because there's a reasonable amount of different routes you can take, even though some of them are dead ends. You have to think about where you're gonna go and how you're gonna get there. So even though a game with big open areas is less linear because you decide which path you take in that big area, other games can still not be too linear without having big areas just because of the fact that you can still decide where to go. Of course, if your objective and destination are crystal clear and you have very little optional areas to explore, then you could say that it's a very linear game.

I finished it, it was alright, nothing too special except the fact that the level design was pretty good.

Solid frame rate, fantastic visuals, fantastic level design, no loading screens, some of the best bosses ever and Samus Aran, the bountyhunter that in the old days made Master Chief wet his suit by hearing the name only...no, the thing that made Metroid Prime so fantastic was the fact that It was the perfect 3D translation of the 2D games before it, something no other game ever achieved.

Multiple GOTY's on various sites when it came out, even here at Gamespot. This is my second best game of all time, beaten close by OOT. The atmosphere and the amount of detail this game had is what made it stand out.

These kind of threads are stupid. Greatest game of all time is insanely opinion based and no matter what game you say you're going to be met with 95% hostility and maybe a few people agreeing with you if you're lucky. Hence why I don't make threads like "8 years later and GTA San Andreas is still the greatest game of all time". I know exactly how that thread would play out. The knowledge that it's my favourite game ever is enough.

Not everone will enjoy the kind of game Metroid Prime is. He just has a small attention span.
