Sum it up...got this via N4g.com Says a major canadian retailer has confirmed a $100 price cut across the board in Canada.

How big could this cut be for M$? Considering they got the 3 yr extended warranty thing going on. I am uncertain what $ amount they are making per system right now. I guess they are wanting to hit the market hard after Sony announced their "clearance sale" of the 60gb systems.

That would be interesting but its all rumor and speculation.

Also why wouldn't they announce something that big at E3?

I know around last year they were making around $70 for each Premium console and the profit margin is definetly higher now. I'm will to bet they will still be making a little off each console with a 100 dollar price drop or at least breaking even.

Microsoft just admitted they'll be losing over 1 Billion dollars due to the warranty issue. I doubt they're ready to lose even more.

Mircosoft and Sony make very little to no money on selling consoles.

The money they make is based of the games. It costs a developer a money to produce a game on a console, and for every copy of that game that sells, they make a small bit of money.

That money does add up when you have a game that has had success like halo or gears for the xbox you make loads of money. And i'm sure games that Mircosoft of sony attually help produce, makes more money.

thats why sony and mircosoft can sell their consoles below what it costs to manufacture.

Nintendo is a diffrent stoy with them selling their console above the manufactureing cost. They use cheep parts (when i say cheep don't get think i mean bad) and are able to make money. Thats why nintendo is still around today. Gamecube didn't do as well as the xbox 1 nor the ps2, but can still hang in and hang in well because they made a profit of of there consoles, microsoft and sony make profit of the game.

That would be awesome... I already have a 360 but doing that gives people no reason to not own one themselves...

I don't think they'd be able to take it either. Maybe later but not so soon with all this warranty stuff. But, that would make my day, i'd probably get a 360 this christmas.

even after cutting $100 on all sku's im sure microsoft will still earn money on each console they sell. (they were making something like $75 last year per console and thats bound to have gone up since then) plus there game software is doing well especially with the next installment of a massive selling franchise only weeks away.

That would be interesting but its all rumor and speculation.

Also why wouldn't they announce something that big at E3?

prostar343

short answer. august the first is just under 3 weeks away which means they will lose quite a few sales for those weeks.

Microsoft has enough money to handle anything short of a seven nation army.... The question is, how much cash will they let slip through their fingers and into the Xbox 360project...

Considering this is probably coming from those idiots over at Futureshop, I'm taking this with a grain of salt.

I have no clue, but you saw the speculation w/ the "clearance Sale" of the PS3 price. People were putting that down as well.

If this is true then Wii will be a rip-off. Even though I thought it was a bit of a rip-off at launch too.

i hate to say it, but if they did that PS3 fans would officially lose (even though I am a PS3 and 360 fan). I mean, having the 360 HALF the cost of the PS3, that would be insane

Tha's what i've been waiting for :D People forget most PS2s were sold at $200 with GTA III and such. That's when we got ours with a game. The casuals will eat up the 360 so it will surely beat the PS3, the Wii who knows.

True. This is why console hardware has the illusion of being less expensive than PC hardware. Both Sony and Microsoft are subsidizing the hardware based on future revenue from game sales. And this is why console games are more expensive than PC games. So in the long run, console gaming ends up costing as much, or more, than PC gaming.

That money does add up when you have a game that has had success like halo or gears for the xbox you make loads of money. And i'm sure games that Mircosoft of sony attually help produce, makes more money.

Correct. What you meant to type is "inexpensive". For example, the Wii is built with inexpensive parts and is manufactured with quality. Microsoft utilized cheap manufacturing with quality parts. The rest is history......

I believe the $75 profit was for the Core edition right?

Edit: My bad. They are losing money on the core, but making money on the premium.
